About the minimum number of bacon rashers per sandwich?

Welshmaenad · 09/05/2015 23:14

Informed Dh I had bought a second pack of bacon for tomorrow's breakfast, as if we want two sandwiches each 8 rashers was not enough.

He stated that two rashers per sandwich is enough. I claim that three, minimum, is an acceptable amount.

He says I'm wasteful. I say there's no sense in eating a sandwich that is more bread than filling, especially where bacon is concerned.

Who is BU? Grin

I only want two, TBH. But I like it with slightly squashable bread (either good white bread or cheap white sliced), so my fingers squish it down a bit and change the bread-to-bacon ratio.

PacificDogwood · 15/05/2015 14:14

The more, the better as long as it's crispy.
Limp bacon - bleurgh!!

Homemade brown bread
Crispy unsmoked bacon
Tiny bit HP sauce or thin slices of tomato
If feeling indulgent fried egg on top Grin

Loverly.

PacificDogwood · 15/05/2015 14:16

Tomodachi, that is a work of art! Grin

KottonKrown · 15/05/2015 15:01

3 is the ideal amount.

2 is acceptable if there is a second filling (egg/black pudding) in play.

jennimum · 15/05/2015 15:34

If im cooking for DD's then 2-3 each. For me at least 4 :-)

Madamecastafiore · 15/05/2015 15:37

My DH says 2, sometimes I use 4 just to be a bit rebellious!!

He is deffo being unreasonable!

cherrylola · 15/05/2015 19:28

3 is luxury so of course best. 2 is fine if there is an egg too though Wink

PandaMummyofOne · 15/05/2015 19:53

3 is most definitely the minimum in this house. And that's when I'm being stingy.

roundtable · 15/05/2015 20:02

Good quality bacon that doesn't shrivel up, 2 otherwise 3. Definitely one sandwich, no butter and ketchup.

Do the people who eat 2 sandwiches skip lunch? That's a lot of food!

Jux · 15/05/2015 22:05

At least 2, but 3 is better.

DH makes paltry bacon sarnies, so much so that I don't eat bacon butties any more. He uses one thin slice of bread, one rasher per sarnie, folds bread over. Nothing else.

To add insult to injury he refuses to cook my bacon until it's crispy.

The whole thing is a travesty Grin

(But it's true I don't eat bacon sandwiches any more because of it.)

Because of this thread, I have today visited a naice butcher and procured some VERY naice unsmoked back bacon, to have in bacon sandwiches tomorrow morning.

I got some black pudding while I was there, too. And I'm going to put an egg in. This is going to be EPIC.

Welshmaenad · 15/05/2015 22:43

roundtable if we have a massive substantial breakfast like a cooked brekkie or a couple of bacon sarnies on a Sunday, that does us until about 4pm, when we usually have a roast, and that's kind of it for food for the day!

I think this is the longest thread I've ever started on mumsnet, I'm so proud Grin

puntastic Sister, welcome.

Thanks WelshGrin Mouth's watering already! Quite tempted to creep downstairs now, make and scoff all the sarnies, then gaslight DH into believing he totally imagined me coming home from the butcher's with bacon.

Actually, that won't work, because I don't think I'm quite good enough to be able to persuade him to forget the yummy lamb and mint pasty he ate for his tea. Buggrit.

ancientbuchanan · 15/05/2015 23:40

Oh god, I forgot to order bacon. Now I shall fave to creep out if the house at sparrowfart tomorrow.

PuntasticUsername · 16/05/2015 08:31

DH still snoring. glares

WIBU to "accidentally" roll on him and wake him up?

TheCatsMother99 · 16/05/2015 08:32

The more bacon the merrier!!!

azelli48414 · 16/05/2015 08:37

I love a bacon sandwich with brown sauce and we always have 3 rashers in a sandwich, but the cafe across the road only has 1 per sandwich grrrr.

PuntasticUsername · 16/05/2015 09:11

ONE per sandwich? Fuck's sake. That's not a bacon sandwich, that's a bit of bread and butter with a cursory bacon garnish.

HappyGirlNow · 16/05/2015 11:08

2 but I always have bacon AND egg in a sandwich. If it was only bacon it'd be 3.

White square bread or preferably Mothers Pride plain (not sure you get this outside Scotland). Or a roll.

Unsmoked back bacon. Grilled. Egg fried soft. Half the sandwich gets brown sauce on it, half without.

YUM.

HappyGirlNow · 16/05/2015 11:09

Oh and keep the lovely crispy fat on mmmm

DurhamDurham · 16/05/2015 11:10

Haha.....bacon garnish!! Maybe that's the way forward, all sandwiches should come with a bacon garnish. It would be much more exciting than the limp lettuce and 3 crisps usually served with a sandwich.

discophile · 16/05/2015 11:14

I had a boyfriend a while ago who used to make bacon sandwiches using two slices of "eggy bread", lots of crispy bacon, and the bacon would have maple syrup poured on it before eating. Very nice. I think there may have been a sprinkling of icing sugar on top of the toast as well. That was the starter, proper savoury bacon sandwich after that one.

PacificDogwood · 16/05/2015 11:16

discophile, that really deserves the title 'Heartattack on a Plate' Grin
Yum!

Iggly · 16/05/2015 12:02

I have 2 (fat removed). Use butter and ketchup. I can't eat any kind of sandwich without butter. Not cheap watery foamy bacon.
