About the minimum number of bacon rashers per sandwich?

Welshmaenad · 09/05/2015 23:14

Informed Dh I had bought a second pack of bacon for tomorrow's breakfast, as if we want two sandwiches each 8 rashers was not enough.

He stated that two rashers per sandwich is enough. I claim that three, minimum, is an acceptable amount.

He says I'm wasteful. I say there's no sense in eating a sandwich that is more bread than filling, especially where bacon is concerned.

Who is BU? Grin

My favourite bacon sandwich is 2 butchers rashers in buttered, thick crusty bread.

Bettercallsaul1 · 09/05/2015 23:48

Surely the vegetarians on the thread could have wafer-thin bacon in their sandwiches?

DarthVadersTailor · 09/05/2015 23:48

The minimum number is ALL OF THEM.

It's that simple.

MrsBertMacklin · 09/05/2015 23:48

Definitely a minimum of 3. The bread:bacon ratio is wrong otherwise.

I use streaky in mine, think it's much tastier - at least 6 streakers.

Fatmomma99 · 09/05/2015 23:49

DurhamDurham - you MUST knock on your neighbours doors... Explain it's an emergency, they will understand!

To the rest of you, I get that you are more interested in your posts than mine, but I feel I have to say that we ONLY have smoked streaky.

And I HATE ketchup and would not contemplate without brown sauce AND butter (proper butter) and as I'm trying to lose weight, I have had this ONCE in the last eighteen months and crave it more than I can say!

And white bread. Keep your stupid healthy brown!

My DH (who cooks) cuts the rinds off and cooks and serves them seperately and DD and I use them as a sprinkling over our bacon.

Ok, I'm dribbling now!

ShadowsCollideCantLogInToMN · 09/05/2015 23:53

Oh yes, lovely crispy fat and definitely not on toast!

humanjam, for me a full breakfast must be two rashers, two sausages, two pieces each of black and white pudding, one fried egg, beans and either cold toast or fried bread. With really strong, sweet tea. Breakfast up North (NI) is even better, as it usually comes with a potato farl and a soda farl. Amazing.

MillionToOneChances · 09/05/2015 23:55

WAIT!!! Though at risk of being hounded off my own thread as a baconwich deviant, I really like that Heinz curry sauce stuff on them as well.

We can get curry ketchup in the UK?? I've been importing it from Germany for years! Bliss. But not on bacon butties, you freak ;)

WonderingWillow · 09/05/2015 23:57

3 for back bacon is the minimum.

DubbyDubby · 09/05/2015 23:59

minimum of 3. must be smokey bacon with either mayo/brown sauce/ballymaleo country relish. mmm

ShadowsCollideCantLogInToMN · 09/05/2015 23:59

Koala, DP is in complete agreement with you there. He's now telling me that a sausage sandwich isn't a sausage sandwich without butter and ketchup (yup, this thread has us debating breakfast sandwiches). I'm a bit dubious though, given his poor taste in breakfast foods... He believes that marmalade should only be applied to naked toast, when clearly it must go on buttered toast!

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 09/05/2015 23:59

Medium white bread
Minimum 3, preferably 4 rashers of back bacon
Butter (don't ever give that marge crap)

Lovely.

Hakluyt · 10/05/2015 00:01

Donny get me wrong- I love butter and I love bacon- it just never occurred to me to put them together- it sounds as if it'd be horrible. I must try. Butter on a sausage sandwich. obviously.

Koalafications · 10/05/2015 00:02

Well, I think that you need to admit defeat and eat bacon and sausage sandwiches the proper way (with butter and ketchup) from now on Shadows.

Your DP is, however, wrong on the marmalade front. That also needs butter, so you are right there.

whatsthatcomingoverthehill · 10/05/2015 00:02

The minimum is whatever is required to make sure there is bacon all the way through the sandwich. Nothing* worse than getting a bacon free mouthful.

But I must say that if it's back bacon, 6 rashers does seem like rather a lot for breakfast.

*hyperbole alert

Koalafications · 10/05/2015 00:04

Hakluyt you need to try a bacon sandwich with butter, tis the only way.

NotJustAnyOldCat · 10/05/2015 00:07

Reduce the bread AND increase the bacon.
So...just two slices.
But with a hefty, generous, tasty, 5 or 6 rashers in it.
Every mouthful a lovely bacon-ny deliciousness, with the bread just there to protect your fingers and soak up enough bacon-ny loveliness to taste baconlicious while it does it.

Bacon > bread

ShadowsCollideCantLogInToMN · 10/05/2015 00:10

I'm feeling somewhat vindicated on the butter and marmalade front Koala. DP thinks it's bizarre, but how else would one eat marmalade on toast? On it's own it would be disgustingly dry. And he insists that I'm the weirdo!

I will however concede, and try the butter and ketchup on my sausage sandwich tomorrow morning. I'll report back as to whether I find it delicious or disgusting Wink.

Koalafications · 10/05/2015 00:13

It would be really dry. It's even more bizarre than the bacon/sausage butter & ketchup fiasco, and that was pretty eye opening.

Marmalade on toast without butter Shock whatever next...

emwithme · 10/05/2015 00:14

If it's super-fatly-sliced bacon, three rashers.

If it's normal-fatly-sliced bacon, four rashers.

If it's skinny bacon, six rashers.

There is no other reason that super-fat-bacon comes in packs of six, normal bacon in packs of eight and skinny bacon in packs of twelve rashers other than so that we can use a whole pack in two sandwiches on a Sunday morning and then not eat until a proper Sunday roast at teatime

ShadowsCollideCantLogInToMN · 10/05/2015 00:15

Hakluyt, oh definitely try the butter on the bacon sambo. It goes all melty and drips down your hands. With nice fluffy white bread and smoked bacon, it's gorgeous.

I'm getting far too passionate re talking about bacon tonight Grin

ScorpioMermaid · 10/05/2015 00:35

none.. I dont like bacon Blush

SorchaN · 10/05/2015 03:44

none.. I dont like bacon
Sacrilege!

Another vote here for three rashers. It has to be smoked back bacon and it has to be on white bread - one slice buttered, the other slice spread with mayonnaise. Damn, I'm hungry...

SteveBrucesNose · 10/05/2015 04:28

Waitrose have bacon in AD too!

3 thick rashers per bap. None of this wafer thin bacon shit here. Sometimes and egg. But always plenty of lurpak

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/05/2015 04:35

Depends how big they are. I like mine to cover the bread, but not necessarily overlap, so if it's a decent slice of back bacon, then 2 bits, top to tail, will usually do. Cooked to shatter levels, of course. ;)

ninetynineonehundred · 10/05/2015 07:14

Off to the shop now for bacon and eggs. It was supposed to be porridge this morning.
