to ask if anyone has had a psychic reading that was extremely accurate?

One that could not be down to cold reading. For example, giving out very specific details such as exact dates, unusual names, basically precise facts that cannot be fished for or guessed and are not vague?

Someone who knew who your friend was but your friend didn't recognise, presumably. Isn't that more likely than a message from beyond the grave?

TalkinPeace · 10/05/2015 12:30

Coincidences are just that - because people are more mobile, chances are you can bump into people who know people you know : the Kevin Bacon game.
Nothing psychic.
Does your friend remember the comments from people who did NOT strike a chord?

kua · 10/05/2015 12:31

I guess, but she had only recently moved to the city and I know no one there. They did have a quick chat comment after the comment in which she mentioned that she had a special skill and that she would not normally comment to a stranger but that it needed to be said.
Whoever , she was I'm glad she did.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 12:35

East, why not accept that some things we will never understand until proven otherwise and leave it at that. I'm not sure why you are directing all this at people who have a belief system that works for them.

Kua, I think it's lovely that your mother came through to give you strength when you needed it, regardless of whether or not you'd normally believe in the woo.

I understand the need to protect vulnerable people, I'm an advocate of it. I prefer not to read the recently bereaved but usually do because I know I won't be exploitative about it.

Forgot to comment on the tube of Pringles, if people want to tell me it's a load of old shite after a reading then they don't pay. They've actually gained in that case with my wine and Pringles. More power to them for it.

TalkinPeace · 10/05/2015 12:37

Do you allow people to record your readings on their phones : full video, so they can listen to what you say again later?

Hakluyt · 10/05/2015 12:41

"have actually been 'tested,'I did readings in a group with only a piece of jewellery or keys belonging to the person. There were maybe fifteen people"

Do you not have a favourite charity that could use a million bucks?

Sallyingforth · 10/05/2015 12:41

Yes, there are many cases when a reading has proved to be entirely accurate.
They are called coincidences.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 12:42

I've always offered, Talkin. Most don't bother though. When I did it regularly it was before phones that could do that but I did have a tape recorder. I don't do it anymore other than for family or friends. I told one friend off recently (nicely) for telling someone who didn't know to ask me for a reading. It's a shame really as the giving side is so worthwhile. I like to see it make a positive impact, kind of like what the person said about it being like therapy.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 12:43

Fackinell, why not accept that if we don't have proof for something we don't understand, then leaping to an explanation that defies everything we know about the nature of the Universe is barmy?

Hakluyt · 10/05/2015 12:44

Coincidence
Cold reading (conscious or unconscious)
Confirmation bias.

A very, very powerful trio.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 12:46

I guess, but she had only recently moved to the city and I know no one there.

So do you consider it more likely this woman can speak to the dead or get on a bus??

fackinell · 10/05/2015 12:47

I have many charities I'd like to donate a million bucks to. I now have a profession in which I don't want to be known for psychic work. I feel really bad saying that but it's these kinds of attitudes that put me off. I can only really be known for one or the other for now IMO. It's not that it would be frowned upon but I want the focus to be on my profession for now without people being distracted by the other.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 12:51

East, well aren't we both in this stalemate together then? At opposite ends of the spectrum, granted, but I am respecting your opinion and you're not really respectful of mine. We'll find out one day. Hopefully not for many years for both of us.

If I go first I'll be waiting on you to say 'ah-haa!! Gerrit up ye East!!' Grin

ComposHatComesBack · 10/05/2015 12:51

But fack you aren't saying I don't know. You are saying quite the opposite. You are filling a void in human knowledge with unverifiable nonsense that completely flies in the face of what is already known

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 12:52

With great powers comes great responsibility. Stan Lee 1963.

kua · 10/05/2015 12:52

I've never said I believe in woo only shared an experience that my friend had. I'm just glad my friend was reminded to call me Smile

Hakluyt · 10/05/2015 12:56

So you're in a position to prove once and for all that psychic powers exist-and get a million bucks for your favourite charity and you choose not to. Right.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 12:56

Not really, Compos. I it's already known then why is there so much research into proving otherwise. We are like a cell on fruit fly's arse that has landed on an Brontosaurus. That is the sum of what we know about the universe's workings. It's rather arrogant to assume that all we have to know is in our consciousness and what we already have discovered.

Eva50 · 10/05/2015 12:58

Yes, just after my mother died and before the funeral I want for a massage. The person I usually see had been held up and another masseur asked if I would be happy with them. As soon as she touched me she stopped and said she needed to get a drink of water as she had a headache. When she can back she told me she was a psychic and had a message from my mother for me. She said my mother was telling me not to worry, she was fine now and with my Dad and Betty (my aunt). She also told me several things about my dad, who had died 30 years before, that no one would have known.

Also, quite a few years ago, I was approached in town by someone wanting to "read my hand". I started to say no but she grabbed it and started garbling on. I thought it was mostly a lot of rubbish as she was going on about a medical condition which I didn't have. She did mention things about my sons which no one knew about and my recent miscarriages which was weird. I have since developed the medical condition.

I now believe some people have "the gift" but would never seek them out.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 12:59

I wouldn't make a million bucks. That would take a million hours and I have a day job. Perhaps you could though, by holding seminars on how much bollocks it all is. Smile

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:00

If science was arrogant enough to believe it had discovered everything, it would stop by definition.

However, science has already established that the dead stay dead and you can't talk to them. Not sure how you missed this memo.

itsonlysubterfuge · 10/05/2015 13:00

I don't understand why you are berating these people for believing what they want to believe. Unless you do the same thing to anyone you find out believes in God? Do you berate them and point out all the flaws in their argument for the bible being the truth? Do you tell them they are stupid by donating to the Church and they are wasting their money? Sometimes when people are upset they need something else to believe in whether it's God, ghosts, or faeries, why do you need to call them out on it?

Also, I'd like to point out that fackinell didn't say she needed to see someone in person to be able to read them, she needed a connection, which would be why she would be able to read a piece of jewellery.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:02

Fackinell. The million bucks being talked about is the Randi prize. If you cam prove your special powers, you'll get it.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 13:03

Thank you for your comment, Itsonly.

East, can you please post a link
to support your statement?
