To be thoroughly pissed off they called the new Royal Baby "Charlotte".

Because now I'll have to endure idiots asking if I named my DD1 (4 months old) after the Princess and my DD's name, which was chosen with care because it is traditional and classic, is going to suddenly become "super popular" with the masses.

It happened for the first time yesterday admittedly she was an American tourist who was admiring my PFB I was asked "Did you name her after the new Royal baby?" No, she's 4 months old you cretin

Why couldn't they have called her something original like "Pasturella Venus" or Channel (deliberately spelt wrong)-Beyonce?

FFS! Angry

I think she means her friend pronounces the second syllable as Lot rather than lut.

QOD · 04/05/2015 23:12

I have no idea how the tomcat got into.my post!

Kiwiinkits · 04/05/2015 23:16

For anybody worrying about the Royal babies causing a spike in the popularity of a name, actually the opposite causal effect has been shown in the statistics.
The popularity of George immediately fell after the birth of Prince George.

fatlazymummy · 05/05/2015 00:25

Not surprised, tbh. The royal family just isn't that relevant to the majority anymore, no matter how hard the press tries. And Kate Middleton just hasn't connected with the public as Diana did. (that is a lovely photo of George, by the way).

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 05/05/2015 02:21

Don't get your logic. If your ChaLotte was born 4 months ago how could she possibly be named after the new princess.

sashh · 05/05/2015 05:15

Well it could be worse OP, at least they didn't ask if she was named after a Macclads' song.

If you know any little girls called Charlotte, particularly if it is your own do not google it, remember the time you googled 'dragon butter' and step away from the keyboard.

DressedUpJustLikeEdie · 05/05/2015 05:38

Don't blame you for being a bit peeved about it but Charlotte has been a pretty common/run of the mill name for the last 20 years so it's not as if there aren't loads around already!

2boys2girls · 05/05/2015 06:46

Think the "normal" pronunciation is shar-lot but I've heard it char-let and char-lut it must be a regional difference
Can't believe some think the royal family are not so popular as once was imo they're more so, especially since will married a "commoner" but people will always have their own opinions on it like the dis/like of diana ,

NurseRoscoe · 05/05/2015 06:52

I have called my children names that aren't uncommon because I loved them. Chances are there will be others in their class with those names. However I do not give a stuff as it's a child's personality that makes them unique, not their name.

A lot of people where I live at least have no concept of this and seem to think they have to think of the most ridiculous name that could possibly enter their heads to ensure their child doesn't have the same name as another. I can imagine Sharlotts or Princess-Lotties before anyone calling their child Charlotte here, not 'different' enough. I don't really think there will be that many people who name their child Charlotte after the princess to be honest but some may just choose it anyway as it's a nice name.

If it was to be unique and different you were going for, you picked the wrong name really, princess or not. Although the name is lovely.

carabos · 05/05/2015 07:05

Charlotte may well be traditional and classic, but it is already "super popular with the masses". They're a dime a dozen and have been for quite some years now. Where we live it's regarded as a bit downmarket.

Mehitabel6 · 05/05/2015 07:11

If you had chosen a very unusual name I can see why people would think that, but not with Charlotte which is very popular anyway.

OneEyedWilly · 05/05/2015 08:16

I had to google dragon butter. Why MN, why!

GGabcd · 05/05/2015 08:21

This is quite the OP.

American bashing.

Royal bashing.

Righteous indignation.

Horrible male partner of OP.

BINGO!

stinkingbishop · 05/05/2015 08:26

Lovely comments on here telling everyone who has a Charlotte that it's downmarket Wink.

Don't really understand why everyone has leapt down the OP's throat. It IS a bit annoying when you have a wee one who's close in age, and people might presume. Am in the same boat! And, yes, Charlotte isn't an unusual name, so wasn't going for specialness. But that's different from not wanting everyone to think you're some kind of flag-waving monarchophile.

Looking at the positives though, it's not as if you'd had a Brooklyn or a Harper, OP, and the odds of that would mean everyone would've assumed a slavish imitation. The fact Charlotte IS so well-liked will mean hopefully it won't be an issue.

That said, mine has been Charlie since yesterday!!!

QuietTiger · 05/05/2015 08:56

GGabcd - If you read further down the thread, you'll find me apologising for being a complete idiot of an OP.

Amazing what 24 hours and a nights sleep (plus the vipers of MN) does for getting some perspective!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/05/2015 09:22

Well done for getting the perspective QuietTiger, I hope you don't get too many more Royal Princess comments! It is a huge compliment to your taste in names though Smile.

AdeleDazeem · 05/05/2015 16:15

DH said years ago that he liked the name Neveah. Fast forward almost a decade to me expecting DD and he's gone off the name. Shame, thought I, as I'd always thought it was nice. I like the way it sounds, the 'meaning' behind it is absolutely neither here nor there for me personally. But we went with a different name.

When DD was about 6 months old a footballer calls his DD Neveah Rose. Cue lots of criticism from all angles, made me very glad DH had gone off the name. I know, I know, it shouldn't matter if the general public don't like a name but hearing people hate the name put me off. I'd hate to think of people saying such things about DDs name.

TattyDevine · 05/05/2015 16:27

Apparently the last name used by the Royals is Mountbatten-Windsor.

I read that in the Daily Kardashian so it must be true.

2boys2girls · 05/05/2015 17:43

Thought it was common knowledge that Mountbatten-Windsor was the royal surname ?

Sallystyle · 05/05/2015 17:45

I'm really pissed off now!

My dog is called Charlotte. On a walk today someone commented how she has the same name as the Princess but my Charlotte is 9 months old!

I am going to get it all the time now and my dog is the original Princess.

not really pissed off at all

Sallystyle · 05/05/2015 17:47

And yes, Charlotte rhymes with harlot.

HuftysTrain · 05/05/2015 18:42

I wonder what name is printed on their credit cards? Or do they get everything for free and have no need for credit cards?

VelvetRose · 05/05/2015 18:47

I didn't mean it in an offensive way, sorry! I pronounce it more Shar lut I suppose and had never heard anyone pronounce it as Shar lot until recently. It's a lovely name anyway.

VelvetRose · 05/05/2015 18:49

Yes, rhymes with harlot assuming you say the lot like lut not like it rhymes with pot!

Sallystyle · 05/05/2015 20:57

Yes Har lut Charl lut.
