To be thoroughly pissed off they called the new Royal Baby "Charlotte".

Because now I'll have to endure idiots asking if I named my DD1 (4 months old) after the Princess and my DD's name, which was chosen with care because it is traditional and classic, is going to suddenly become "super popular" with the masses.

It happened for the first time yesterday admittedly she was an American tourist who was admiring my PFB I was asked "Did you name her after the new Royal baby?" No, she's 4 months old you cretin

Why couldn't they have called her something original like "Pasturella Venus" or Channel (deliberately spelt wrong)-Beyonce?

FFS! Angry

I secretly hoped their children wouldnt have my childrens names :-)

Official surname is Mountbatten-windsor,

Dowser · 04/05/2015 18:50

So what is the surname the Royals use in a passport; Wales/Windsor/Mountbatten?

Would think its Saxe Coburg Gotha

Windsor only a made up name.

DuchessofNorks · 04/05/2015 18:51

I was really hoping they would call their DD Harper.

Then they would have had a Harper and a George, and we would have a Georgia (DD 8mnths and a Harper (DS 3yrs)

Titsalinabumsquash · 04/05/2015 19:07

I'm a Charlotte, I personally really dislike the name a lot, I've always been known as a nickname, poor princess imo! Wink

One of the popular front runners the bookies were predicting is the name we gave our 3 week old DD, I told DP that if they went with it for the Princess I was (semi) seriously considering changing her name, although since then I've discovered the name we gave her is in the top 3 most popular anyway, more fool me for not checking first. Grin

PeppermintPasty · 04/05/2015 19:20

YANBU. I had an 11 yo cat called George who died last year after being hit by a car. So many people have asked me if I named him after Prince George.

TooSpotty · 04/05/2015 19:44

I just hope this means people will get better at spelling it. Although you'd think given how popular it is, that would already be known. It really only has one spelling but the number of times people ask whether it starts with an 's', has one 't' or two, or are surprised it ends in an 'e'...

Carpinteria · 04/05/2015 19:51

You are being totally irrational OP.

However, I have been dreading the announcement of the name as my own name was a front runner and I so did NOT want them to use it. So I understand your pissed off-ness.

fancyanotherfez · 04/05/2015 19:53

Squoosh Thats what everyone says- even though they were born before both popes became Popes! I couldn't believe it!!!

PHANTOMnamechanger · 04/05/2015 19:53

I know what you mean OP about people thinking you copied them.
Friend of mine had this with her DS called Leo, it was a very unusual name back then, till Leo Blair was born a month later!

19lottie82 · 04/05/2015 19:59

My names Charlotte and I think it's great!

It's not like it's an uncommon name these days anyway......

TurquoiseDress · 04/05/2015 20:03

OP I think you need to calm down. Seriously!

Charlotte is a lovely name...it still even tho Kate & Wills have chosen it.

It's always been a popular name...I'm in my thirties and I remember we had 2 Charlottes in my class at school.
Nice Charlotte and Nasty Charlotte lol!

TurquoiseDress · 04/05/2015 20:25

To add- I'd never think to ask somebody if they named their child after a Royal baby.

Unless it was something a bit quirky like Eugenie and only if they were similar ages.

Names like George and Charlotte are very traditional but pretty bog standard common names that are everywhere!

QOD · 04/05/2015 22:26

My sister was.going tomcat her youngest Charlotte but changed her mind as apparently all the family said it wrong.

We say .... Shar let
And sis wanted her to be Shar lot

So called her something totally different and we all call her Alan anyway

VelvetRose · 04/05/2015 22:30

I have a friend who pronounces it Shar-lot. I find that a bit strange tbh!

I think, weirdly, the Royals have stumbled onto an existing fad. I know several girls under 1 year old named Charlotte/called Charlie . Evidently you have too. Oops. Your dd has my sympathy. My parents managed to be cutting edge with my name, there were always 2 or 3 others with my name in class.

Sirzy · 04/05/2015 22:40

Shar - let here

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/05/2015 22:40

All the Charlottes I know pronounce it Shar-lot.

squoosh · 04/05/2015 22:40

It rhymes with 'harlot' to me.

squoosh · 04/05/2015 22:42

rather than 'forgot'.

I say Shar-lut.

Rainbunny · 04/05/2015 22:49

Hmm...I guess I say it sort of like shar-lut (lut as rhymes with gut) but not a strong lut sound, it's definitely a soft lut.

Yellowbird54321 · 04/05/2015 22:52

It always irks me that people assume my dog Marley was named after the film (Marley & Me) because MY DOG CAME FIRST! Grin

notplayers · 04/05/2015 23:00

How is that strange *velvet?. I've never heard it pronounced any other way.

Do you pronounce it with a hard c as in 'Charles'? Because that's very unusual and I don't think is the correct pronunciation.
