To be thoroughly pissed off they called the new Royal Baby "Charlotte".

Because now I'll have to endure idiots asking if I named my DD1 (4 months old) after the Princess and my DD's name, which was chosen with care because it is traditional and classic, is going to suddenly become "super popular" with the masses.

It happened for the first time yesterday admittedly she was an American tourist who was admiring my PFB I was asked "Did you name her after the new Royal baby?" No, she's 4 months old you cretin

Why couldn't they have called her something original like "Pasturella Venus" or Channel (deliberately spelt wrong)-Beyonce?

OP - I do love the name Charlotte but did you know that you can change your baby's name during the first year. You could that now and avoid a lifetime of people asking if she's name after the Princess. In your shoes with such a young baby I'd do it.

It is frustrating when people make assumptions about your child's name. My dd (5) is named for my grandma who passed away before she was born, but since that Disney film has been released we've had several people ask if she was named after the character.

I think it's unfair to say it's downmarket. It has never been downmarket - it's a classic that spans all class divides. But like lots of well established names it becomes very popular again at some point and therefore becomes ubiquitous and adopted by some downmarket people. That doesn't make it a downmarket name. It's not, and it never has been.

It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I can understand the OP being a bit annoyed - she's only human!
