To be thoroughly pissed off they called the new Royal Baby "Charlotte".

Because now I'll have to endure idiots asking if I named my DD1 (4 months old) after the Princess and my DD's name, which was chosen with care because it is traditional and classic, is going to suddenly become "super popular" with the masses.

It happened for the first time yesterday admittedly she was an American tourist who was admiring my PFB I was asked "Did you name her after the new Royal baby?" No, she's 4 months old you cretin

Why couldn't they have called her something original like "Pasturella Venus" or Channel (deliberately spelt wrong)-Beyonce?

FFS! Angry

It's made me glad we're having a boy - Charlotte was in our top 3.

We have no boys' names, mind you...

LadyDeadpool · 04/05/2015 16:31

I bet that 100% happened OP you should have told the totally not imaginary time traveling psychic woman where to shove it.

fatlazymummy · 04/05/2015 16:33

Who cares, really? The royal family isn't a big deal among the 'masses' any more. I actually didn't know until 2 days ago that their eldest is called George. I expect I heard about it when he was born but it slipped my mind since then.
I remember when Lady Diana died this 'royal ' journalist predicted there would be a surge of baby girls being called Diana after her. Somehow I don't think that happened. Most people don't really care about the royal family anymore, at least not in a trend setting way.

Christinayangstwistedsister · 04/05/2015 16:34

I think you should phone Wills and Kate immediately and demand that they change their minds

VelvetRose · 04/05/2015 16:34

It's a lovely name. I actually don't know very many of them.

Anyway, despite the almost overwhelming Yabu response here I can understand exactly where you are coming from! I know several people who have been in this situation but with more unusual names...Brooklyn for example! they got absolutely sick of people asking them if they'd copied the Beckhams!

I chose a fairly unusual name for dd 12 years ago, so unusual that in 30 years of teaching my mum had never taught a child with that name. When dd was about 6 mths old I took her to a baby music group...there were 6 little girls there with the same name!!!! It did annoy me at the time, I don't care what anyone says it is annoying! However, it really doesn't matter in the long run. I still love dd's name and let's face it, unless you choose a very unusual name you'll still find that lots of other people have had the same idea!

Rainicorn · 04/05/2015 16:35

It's only a name, and you don't own it.

It's quite a popular name anyway, it's not as if it's never been heard of.

They should have called her Barbara

InQuiteAPickle · 04/05/2015 16:36

My DD2 is a Charlotte - they've obviously named her after my DD! Wink

Seriously though, there are so many Charlottes and so many Georges. There has been speculation for ages that if they had a girl Charlotte was the favourite.

Christinayangstwistedsister · 04/05/2015 16:36

Barbara Windsor...has a certain ring to it

KnitKnitPurl · 04/05/2015 16:37

When my sister was born there was a trend of naming babies after characters in American soaps, which my mum really wanted to avoid. Of course, a few weeks after the name has been chosen, a character with that name (and it wasn't an overly common name at the time) appeared in one of the soaps.

Wouldn't say my mum was running, though. A bit Hmm for a few seconds, possibly. But she got over it.

VelvetRose · 04/05/2015 16:38

Bemused that people think op is making up the meeting with the tourist! The top name predictions for the royal baby were all over the news yesterday, it's not at all surprising that a tourist had them on her mind!

InQuiteAPickle · 04/05/2015 16:38

Rainicorn, I would have loved to have a Princess Babs!

Ha! Grin Maybe Barbara Windsor is a poor relation and that's why they couldn't use it?

InQuiteAPickle · 04/05/2015 16:40

How very dare you LimeFizz! T'is a beautiful name Grin.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 04/05/2015 16:43

OP OP, come back Crown

hackmum · 04/05/2015 16:45

I thought the OP was being tongue-in-cheek. I'm sure she's not really that angry.

And obviously the reason the DH walked off is at the stupidity of the suggestion that a 4-month old could have been named after a baby that had just been born.

I think a lot of people on this thread have mislaid their sense of humour.

QuietTiger · 04/05/2015 16:48

Thank you all ladies for handing me my arse on a plate. I knew I could rely on the vipers of MN to slap some serious sense into me and very quickly, because to be frank, I needed it!!

In answer to some questions. DD is called Charlotte. Yes, we did have a tourist ask if we'd named her after the Royal baby yesterday because the potential names were all over the news. Yes, DH did get up and walk away - he was actually getting coffee when he did so, not flouncing off, but that's neither here or there. FWIW, I was polite and we had a very nice conversation.

Yes, my OP's were badly worded - my apologies to those I offended.

Thanks again for the virtual slapping - I needed to be handed a grip, and is why I posted in my usual user name. Flowers

SeaUnicorns · 04/05/2015 16:48

Surely the answer to did you consider Charlotte because the royals were is no we just liked the name it's simple and classical, tbf which is probably why the royals have chosen it too. Not to totally over react and find an excuse to walk away failing that a polite I'm sorry I was talking to my wife/husband having a quiet family lunch.
Or ask them if they were confiding barrack/michelle/Hillary/George/Chelsea as the name for their child after all if you were naming your daughter after a royal they'll have been naming there's after a president.

VelvetRose · 04/05/2015 16:50

I think you sound brilliant op! That's such an upfront, humble response! Very best wishes to you and your own little Charlotte Smile

SenecaFalls · 04/05/2015 16:52

It would have to be an American tourist you called a name. Did you think that would make the name calling ok, OP?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 04/05/2015 16:52

Have some Wine for you and a Crown for your Charlotte Wink

It's a lovely name, I love Lottie btw.

alwaysstaytoolong · 04/05/2015 16:53

Applauds OP for not n/c and accepting she was a bit silly!.

Dignified and self - deprecating. They should name the next princess QuietTiger Smile

fatlazymummy · 04/05/2015 16:53

quiettiger I have the same name as a member of the royal family (a princess) As far as I can remember noone has ever asked me if I was named after her. I just don't think most people make the connection. I wouldn't worry if I was you, especially as she will probably be kept out of the public eye as much as possible.

SeaUnicorns · 04/05/2015 16:54

Oh so you've changed your story twice now,

"Did you name her after the new royal baby?" Some how became "did you consider Charlotte because the Royals were" when people pointed out the name wasn't know. Yesterday

And "my husband had to make an excuse to get away" implying very clearly that he didn't like being asked a perfectly conversational question suddenly I'd he wasn't flouncing he had to get coffee why on earth did he need to make an excuse to get coffee unless it was an excuse.

You seem to change your story when your to,d Yaba

Rainicorn · 04/05/2015 16:54

Ah Op, you took it well, good on you.

I get asked every now and again if I named my DS1 after Elvis (his middle name is DS1s name). Considering Elvis was well before my time, I always give a Hmm face and say no.
