To be thoroughly pissed off they called the new Royal Baby "Charlotte".

Because now I'll have to endure idiots asking if I named my DD1 (4 months old) after the Princess and my DD's name, which was chosen with care because it is traditional and classic, is going to suddenly become "super popular" with the masses.

It happened for the first time yesterday admittedly she was an American tourist who was admiring my PFB I was asked "Did you name her after the new Royal baby?" No, she's 4 months old you cretin

Why couldn't they have called her something original like "Pasturella Venus" or Channel (deliberately spelt wrong)-Beyonce?

FFS! Angry

I was surprised they used such a common name tbh.

Common as in very popular, obviously.

It's nice enough, but there have been gazillions of them for the last 20 yrs or so haven't there?

At Bedales/Gordonstoun she'll be known as Charlotte W because there'll be another 8 in the class.

teatowel · 04/05/2015 17:59

My Charlotte Elizabeth is 25 I may get her to add Diana then she can have the full set:)

squoosh · 04/05/2015 18:01

I think she's Charlotte C isn't she?

squoosh · 04/05/2015 18:02

Or do she and her brother remain Windsor and just the parents are Cambridge?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 04/05/2015 18:05

Charlotte Windsor. [just on radio news]

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 04/05/2015 18:05

Princess C of Cambridge.

I like it.

SenecaFalls · 04/05/2015 18:06

I think she'll be known as Charlotte Cambridge, even though the family name is Windsor.

SenecaFalls · 04/05/2015 18:07

William and Harry both used Wales in the army rather than Windsor.

QuietTiger · 04/05/2015 18:09

DH has just pointed out that it was better she was called "Charlotte", rather than the yoo-nique name "Legoland".

Apparently he's finding the name "Legoland Windsor" highly amusing. Hmm considers divorce

It's a lovely name. As are Elizabeth and Diana. I think they run along well together.

You don't get the copyright of a name when you use it. Nor do the royals, who just happen to share your exquisite taste in girls' names and have named their new baby after yours. Grin

ThingummyJigg · 04/05/2015 18:16

I knew a Harper who was born just before the Beckhams has theirs.

Original Harper had her name changed! Shock

squoosh · 04/05/2015 18:18

If I'd had a Harper just before the Beckham's Harper arrived I'd probably have changed her name too. People would definitely think you'd copied in the case of Harper in a way they wouldn't assume with a standard name like Charlotte.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 04/05/2015 18:21

So what is the surname the Royals use in a passport; Wales/Windsor/Mountbatten?

SenecaFalls · 04/05/2015 18:21

If someone named a girl Harper where I live, everyone would think it was for Harper Lee.

Livjames1 · 04/05/2015 18:28

You're "thoroughly pissed off" at the thought of the royals calling their baby Charlotte, you're a complete weirdo do you realise that lol.

Topseyt · 04/05/2015 18:31

Do all the royals have passports?

I think some of them don't need them, though could be wrong.

Bowerby · 04/05/2015 18:33

Agree with the OP here. My dd2 is Alice and I was dreading them choosing it because it would then spike in popularity.

fancyanotherfez · 04/05/2015 18:34

I've had 2 popes named after my children, and we are an atheist family, quite openly. People still ask if we have named our children after the Popes! Its mildly irritating, and they are really unusual names too, but what can you do??

Topseyt · 04/05/2015 18:37

Ah, got it now. Only the Queen doesn't need a passport for overseas travel. All other members of the royal family do need one.

squoosh · 04/05/2015 18:38

That certainly must be annoying for you fancy! I'd assume that a family with a Benedict and Francis were very Catholic.

DuchessofNorks · 04/05/2015 18:40

I've had zero comments on my Harper, except one silly cunt who made a snide remark about it on my DSis Photography page.

If she had read the description it properly she would know that my Grandfather died shortly before we conceived. We used his middle name, Harper, for my son and I would be damned if I was going to change it. It helped that close family and friends already knew from conception that we were using Harper, boy of girl.

Strangely, when the Beckhams announced their pregnancy I updated my status, joking that VB would probably "steal" my name Grin

It doesn't bother me or anyone else. I just don't get why anyone cares when this happens.

Rainbunny · 04/05/2015 18:41

Apparently Charlotte was the odds on favorite for the bookmakers so it's not really a sudden surprise. While I like the full name, I just don't like the shortened version. I went to school with a Charlotte and she was called "char" (sounds like shar) all the time.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 04/05/2015 18:44

Harper is a great name.

I love all names Wine

Floundering · 04/05/2015 18:44

"No actually DD is 4 months older than the Princess, so Kate copied ME"

WaxyBean · 04/05/2015 18:48

YANBU. I've got a George who is 18 months older than the prince, doesn't stop people asking me if we named him after Prince George.
