To be thoroughly pissed off they called the new Royal Baby "Charlotte".

Because now I'll have to endure idiots asking if I named my DD1 (4 months old) after the Princess and my DD's name, which was chosen with care because it is traditional and classic, is going to suddenly become "super popular" with the masses.

It happened for the first time yesterday admittedly she was an American tourist who was admiring my PFB I was asked "Did you name her after the new Royal baby?" No, she's 4 months old you cretin

Why couldn't they have called her something original like "Pasturella Venus" or Channel (deliberately spelt wrong)-Beyonce?

FFS! Angry

I think OP's on the wind up Grin

lithewire · 04/05/2015 15:55

Start calling her Charlie if it bothers you that much Grin

Justusemyname · 04/05/2015 15:55

Given your baby is four months older I doubt people will seriously think you copied them! You're being silly.

ifgrandmahadawilly · 04/05/2015 15:56

YANBU. I would have liked to have called my daughter Lily, after my grandmother. A few years ago it was a lovely, unusual name. But by the time I had a daughter it had become overused and associated with chavs Sad Very annoying.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 04/05/2015 15:57

I think that's what happens when you give your DD one of the most common names there is. I've just done a quick count and I know at least 11 of them, from 2 months to about 55 years.

We actually laugh about how we know too many Charlottes in our family, we have to define them further. Charlotte-up-the-road, Charlotte-who-works-in-the-Co-op, Charlotte-who-got-pregnant-at-15-and-didn't-do-her-GCSEs, that sort of thing.

Yours can just be Charlotte-who-was-born-and-named-before-the-royal-baby.

YouTheCat · 04/05/2015 15:57

How about 'Shallot'? Grin

CornwallsFinest · 04/05/2015 15:58

YABU and a bit ridiculous.

BastardGoDarkly · 04/05/2015 15:58

Or car lotte?

AuntyMag10 · 04/05/2015 15:59

Yabu and agree with the poster who says your dh behaved like a drama queen.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 04/05/2015 15:59

Bit hysterical. Your DH I mean.

Marcipex · 04/05/2015 16:00

Exactly the same happened to me yesterday. The coffee shop was very busy and we shared a table with an American tourist, who noticed me call my baby Charlotte and asked me if she was named after the new Princess (eyeroll)....
Or no, I'm making it all up aren't I.....I dont have a new baby.
Maybe it was a dream?

WorraLiberty · 04/05/2015 16:02

There's a new princess called eyeroll? Shock

YANBU Marcipex, they definitely stole your name! Grin

susannahmoodie · 04/05/2015 16:02

Yabu and you don't sound very nice.

It's hardly an unusual name.

And apparently George has declined in popularity since they used it anyway....

Sallystyle · 04/05/2015 16:03

It already is popular.

Anyone who chooses a name because it isn't super popular are fooling themselves. Who knows what will be popular in a few months time? Shouldn't people pick their kids name because they like it and not worry about popularity?

I know tons of Charlottes.

I have an Evie, it wasn't popular like it is now when she was born. Now there are tons of them but I picked the name because I like it and I don't like it any less because there are many other Evie's out there.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 04/05/2015 16:03

Your DH walked away in a huff because a (fictional) American tourist asked him something to pass the time?

Get yourself to Relationships pronto!

FWIW I'm furious you called your DC after Lolita's mother. That's my all time favourite novel.

Leviticus · 04/05/2015 16:03

Er, Charlotte is hardly unusual.

Szeli · 04/05/2015 16:04

Tbf to the OP odds have been she'd be called Charlotte or Alice since the pregnancy was announced - so she could have been asked yesterday.

OP tho; your DD is 4 months old, Charlotte has been touted as a popular contender for the Princess' name longer than that - you only have yourself to blame here, if it was such a big issue to you you could have avoided it. yabu

alwaysstaytoolong · 04/05/2015 16:04

What's your husbands name? He sounds like a princess if he had to walk away because someone asked him a question Smile

TinyTear · 04/05/2015 16:05

I understand you OP
I actually had my MIL last week asking if we had picked Alice for our 4 week old because of the royals... And when she asked it the sprig hadn't even been born!!!! And could have been a boy!!!

Good thing it's not Alice!

TinyTear · 04/05/2015 16:06

Sprog...

Gruntfuttock · 04/05/2015 16:06

I thought they were going to call the baby Waynetta. Sad It's just as well I didn't put a bet on, innit?

ollieplimsoles · 04/05/2015 16:07

I breathed a sign of relief when I saw the name announcement, they didn't chose one we wanted to use! Grin

Ledkr · 04/05/2015 16:08

It's usually in the top 5 or 10 nanes isn't it? Hardky unique op

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 04/05/2015 16:08

I wonder if they named her after the potato.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 04/05/2015 16:08

Is this actually a little bit of a stealth boast that your baby has a princess name? Just a wee little bit? Hmm?
