To not like the way Prince George is dressed (and think it's often not weather appropriate)

OK I have said it....

I am in London and it was fucking freezing today OK maybe I am exaggerating a little but it was NOT shorts weather

I am not anti Royal, I tuned in to hear about the baby's safe arrival and wee George is just a cutie-pie but I don't like how they dress him.

So AIBU?

Do you think the royal tailor makes little clothes for him

CaTsMaMmA · 03/05/2015 13:43

I have read this thread and it's dawned on me I am middle aged.... I am always looking at small children and thinking they look like boiled pixies or half defrosted froglets

that's the definition of middle aged ...judging OPC by temperature.

it does puzzle me though why people who deem coats unnecessary never think to remove some layers for babies puce with heat exhaustion dressed in clothes, cardi, coat, hat, gloves and in a buggy layered up with covers

WomanScorned · 03/05/2015 13:45

I'm no royalist and definitely no aristo, but my 5 year old wears similar clothes. I just like to see children dressed like children. As a baby he wore soft babygros and hand knitted cardigans or nappy, legwarmers and a top. Never, ever jeans and trainers.
He sometimes wears jeans, a tiger suit, footy kit, superhero outfits now he's older. I still don't like it, but appreciate that he's his own person.
Admittedly, I don't see other boys dressed like it around here - but he does get lots of positive comments. Strangers often ask where his t-bar shoes are from - his current ones have already been 'bagsied' by the same lady who bought his last pair from me.
It makes me happy, he's happy for now.
He has decades ahead of him to dress like a little man.
Like I said, I'm no royal lover, but can't deny he's a cute kid in cute clothes.

Icimoi · 03/05/2015 13:51

And OP, I totally agree with you, it wasn't weather appropriate, regardless of how long he spent outdoors. It was bloody freezing yesterday in London

Would anyond seriously go to all the trouble of putting a child into warm trousers and a coat when they are going to be outdoors and held by their father for all of 10 seconds?

Wotsitsareafterme · 03/05/2015 13:52

Yanbu op I don't like his clothes ever they are twee.

NorahDentressangle · 03/05/2015 13:59

never think to remove some layers for babies puce with heat exhaustion dressed in clothes, cardi, coat, hat, gloves and in a buggy layered up with covers

and in an overheated department store!!

(I'm V middle aged)

EmeraldThief · 03/05/2015 14:13

My brother and I both wore t bar shoes/sandles as toddlers and we were born in the 80's! I

RedToothBrush · 03/05/2015 14:16

Poor kid. And his sister will be judged for the way she looks even more.

And to think of the number of 'commoners' who complain about beach beautiful adverts then potter along to threads like this and judge a not even 2 year old by his appearance.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2015 14:19

Nobody is judging the two year old. He wouldn't have chosen the 1950s look himself.

In fact for all we know when they got into the hospital Kate may have said 'OMG Wills what did you dress him in that for?'

Weebirdie · 03/05/2015 14:24

I love the way he is dressed, and you can just tell by the look of the little darling that no amount of formal dressing (if thats what is called) will prevent him from being everything a 21 month old should be.

I thought he looked adorable. Also, maybe it's just my children but my two often dress in shorts, or skirts with bare legs when I'm piling on extra layers. They are like little radiators!

CheerfulYank · 03/05/2015 14:39

My dad used to make fun of William and Harry's t-bars way back when...he called them "Christopher Robin shoes". :) I remember him doing it and I'm the same age as William...funny what sticks in your mind!

We are savage Americans though, no sense of tradition Wink

Shesparkles · 03/05/2015 14:54

My DS often had T bar navy start rite shoes as a toddler and he's only 13!
They fitted well, polished up if they got scuffed. I'm not seeing the issue

Idontseeanydragons · 03/05/2015 14:54

I'm guessing as his Dad William had a fairly good idea of whether the clothes George was wearing were appropriate for the weather in London yesterday, especially when going from a warm house to a warm car then 100 yards from the car to a warm hospital...
He looked adorable. The retro look for adults and children is very trendy at the moment.

WonderingWillow · 03/05/2015 15:12

He looked sweet, although I wouldn't have dressed my DS like that. My DS wore (and still wears) bright colours; lots of stripes, stars, dungarees, feety trousers (not these now!) and soft fabrics. He chooses some character clothing now he's 4.5 (he likes Lego and Star Wars), but mostly just bright, happy colours. And no truck related stuff or tops saying "I'm a little monster" Hmm

I thought in long socks, t bar shoes and dark coloured clothes he looked quite grown up and formal actually. I'm sure Kate dresses him very sweetly at home.

SakuraSakura · 03/05/2015 15:17

I think he looked adorable. And comfortable.

Jackieharris · 03/05/2015 15:23

It was posh and impractical, exactly what I'd expect.

merrymouse · 03/05/2015 15:28

He wouldn't have chosen the 1950s look himself.

He wouldn't have been aware that his clothes were anything other than clothes.

T-bar shoes might have certain conotation now that trainers are so popular, but they are perfectly comfortable.

Equally plenty of runners wore knee socks and shorts for the marathon. His clothes might or might not have been cheap but they were practical.

Momagain1 · 03/05/2015 15:28

See, now I saved my judginess for his mother, sent outside in a dress and heels and either stockings (very uncomfortable at this point) or stockingless when it was that cold.

She needed trackies and Uggs. And deserved them too.

hidingfromthem · 03/05/2015 15:34

I think Enid Blyton dresses him.

Sazzle41 · 03/05/2015 15:40

Thats what aristocracy dress their children in/like. Next you will be saying where is the new Princess's pink headband and ear ring. Sigh.

merrymouse · 03/05/2015 15:46

Footballers too - they all wear knee socks and shorts.

stopeatingbiscuits · 03/05/2015 15:47

I think he looked lovely and would have chosen something similar myself. I love to see children dressed traditionally and this was his second ever public appearance in the UK. I would expect the Duchess chose the outfit in advance.
