To not like the way Prince George is dressed (and think it's often not weather appropriate)

OK I have said it....

I am in London and it was fucking freezing today OK maybe I am exaggerating a little but it was NOT shorts weather

I am not anti Royal, I tuned in to hear about the baby's safe arrival and wee George is just a cutie-pie but I don't like how they dress him.

So AIBU?

I thnk he looked adorable. Denim and stupid headbands are what should be scoffed at. Not short trousers and socks.

MollieCoddler · 02/05/2015 22:19

I love his clothes but I think what makes it odd is that you just can't buy clothes like that these days, at least not in the shops I go into..!

AGirlCalledBoB · 02/05/2015 22:20

I did think it was not shorts weather but he did have long socks on and went from the car straight into the hospital, so I doubt he got cold.

I would not dress my toddler in that sort of clothing but you do expect royals to be very formal and traditional so I think for a young prince he look very sweet.

limitedperiodonly · 02/05/2015 22:21

Would it be okay if he was in the Bigg Market and wearing a wife-beater t-shirt OP?

usualsuspect333 · 02/05/2015 22:21

I've never seen a child dressed like that in RL.

I must mix in the wrong circles.

18yearstooold · 02/05/2015 22:22

I didn't really notice what he was wearing

What I noticed was how at ease he was with his dad, putting his arms up for 'a carry'

Shouldn't be unusual but in the royal family it seems to be

Hulababy · 02/05/2015 22:22

We are near london today. Little bit we were out with was in shorts. All the children ended up in t shirts or the cardis. It really wasn't that cold especially for a 2 minute walk across a car park.

Heck, the little boys at many a boys school wear shorts and long socks all year round.

LoxleyBarrett · 02/05/2015 22:22

I think he looks gorgeous - we are in the NW and the boys have to wear shorts every day for school, they were in shorts today too by choice.

villainousbroodmare · 02/05/2015 22:22

In the era from which his style dates, all little boys wore shorts every day until they graduated to long trousers aged about 12. They then never ever wore shorts again except for sports.

Aurochs · 02/05/2015 22:23

Yes agree denim is no improvement comfort-wise – it's horrible and stiff. I hate jeans for babies covered in pockets and rivets, I always think they must really chafe.

PelicanDaisy · 02/05/2015 22:23

He seems to be dressed normally outside public eye... search 'prince george sunglasses' on google images.
Think it is just playing to the media/feeling they have to make him look royal. He is adorable though.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 02/05/2015 22:24

I find it depressing that people are commenting on a babies dress style.

So what if it is something out of the Victorian times or joggers and vans.

Kids should be kids and not have to worry.

Tbh I think it's appropriate in what he was wearing, the car would have been heated before he got in and the hospital would have been hot. In the minute between car and building there is little point on wrapping up warm.

usualsuspect333 · 02/05/2015 22:24

It's just selling the Royal family brand.

RingtheBells · 02/05/2015 22:26

He looked lovely in his shorts, socks and jumper. I also love his parting in his hair, he looked very smart.

Nanny0gg · 02/05/2015 22:27

I didn't like how he was dressed and I grew up in the 50s!

Jeans wouldn't have been appropriate, but there's plenty of smart clothes for little boys out there that wouldn't make him look like a mini 40 year-old.

SuburbanRhonda · 02/05/2015 22:27

Denim and stupid headbands are what should be scoffed at.

And the OP is judgey, you say? Hmm

Shockers · 02/05/2015 22:28

My son was dressed in a similar fashion throughout junior school.

I am happy to report that there is no lasting damage Wink.

peacypops · 02/05/2015 22:29

I thought he looked gorgeous - like a proper little boy. We often dress our similar aged ds is tank tops and such. Having seen George today I might even buy him some knee socks now!

msgrinch · 02/05/2015 22:30

People actually have time to judge this sort of non issue?! He was dresse fine, he had 15 seconds outside. Honestly you need to get a hobby.

Shockers · 02/05/2015 22:30

I don't know any 40 yr olds who dress in shorts and long socks NannyOgg!

limitedperiodonly · 02/05/2015 22:30

My mother dressed me in t-bar Start-Rites and woolly tights for smart occasions.

I'm pretty sure she wasn't doing it for a royal family brand.

She wasn't that insecure.

mumofthemonsters808 · 02/05/2015 22:31

I thought the same thing, but by Monday the outfit he was wearing will have sold out. I've never actually met any little boy who is dressed like this, so I presumed it was an upper class thing. Far too old fashioned for my liking, looks like something my Dad who was born in 1934 would have worn, but each to their own. Kate probably would not approve of my sons wardrobe.

usualsuspect333 · 02/05/2015 22:32

All the old fashioned stuff just sucks people in and makes people all misty eyed about the good old days.

hiddenhome · 02/05/2015 22:32

I'd prefer to see him in a tiger onesie Grin

Artandco · 02/05/2015 22:35

Ds was dressed in similar today. We have always dressed both in that vague style.

If they are in parks digging they have either waterproof trousers or snow trousers over the top and a coat if it's freezing or wet and muddy. And of course boots. But day to day they wear shorts and socks or tights. Ds1 is now at school and his uniform only have shorts as the option, trousers aren't allowed
