To not like the way Prince George is dressed (and think it's often not weather appropriate)

OK I have said it....

I am in London and it was fucking freezing today OK maybe I am exaggerating a little but it was NOT shorts weather

I am not anti Royal, I tuned in to hear about the baby's safe arrival and wee George is just a cutie-pie but I don't like how they dress him.

So AIBU?

I love George's outfits!

Way better than that naff dinosaur/tractor/slogan mini adult stuff which you buy on the High Street.

seventeen · 03/05/2015 07:58

Saying that, I imagine he doesn't wear that stuff every day. I would dress DS up for "best" if I knew he was having his picture taken.

thegreylady · 03/05/2015 08:00

My very ordinary grandsons and their friends wear grey shorts for school every day atm. They can't wait to get into shorts although they do have jeans too.
We live in the Midlands and it is an ordinary little primary school with no rules about long/short trousers.

Sansarya · 03/05/2015 08:01

Never mind dressing like his dad, George's clothes always make me think of old photos of his grandad as a child! If you look at pictures of Charles in the 40s and 50s his outfits are very similar. It's a cute look though, and I imagine he's only dressed like that for public appearances.

GoblinLittleOwl · 03/05/2015 08:05

Oh, for heaven's sake! When I was at school, in the 1950s and 60s, all the boys wore shorts and long socks throughout the winter, and girls wore skirts and long socks, without the benefit of central heating and rides in heated cars. And we weren't freezing.

usualsuspect333 · 03/05/2015 08:11

It's not the 1950s any more though.

TheLastThneed · 03/05/2015 08:11

I love the old fashioned look. My friend's little girl has an old fashioned face and she's totally scrumptious...

EachandEveryone · 03/05/2015 08:21

Have you seen the price if those gorgeous clothes he wears? Eye watering. No wonder we aren't seeing boys running around dressed like him. I think with girls it's easier.

NotAllThisAgain · 03/05/2015 08:22

DP and I were talking about this last night. I don't really like the clothes they dress him in. He looks like a Victorian child. It will be interesting to see what ridiculous things they dress him in once he's a teenager.

My DS is one day younger that George and there's no way he would let me put those long socks on him. He'd have them off in seconds.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2015 08:26

I am always baffled when the press discover where the old fashioned toddler clothes were from and they sell out. Who would buy that stuff? Confused

Same as Kate's wardrobe. Who wants to dress in identical clothes to her?

slippermaiden · 03/05/2015 08:56

George looks great. His clothes are clean and he seems happy enough, so what's it us? You see plenty of badly dressed children in town centres and probably barely bat an eyelid!

Sansarya · 03/05/2015 08:57

Agree Sparklingbrook. Nude Sledge pumps from LK Bennett? No thanks!

Alexandpea · 03/05/2015 09:02

I love George's little outfits and thought his shoes were adorable. But my 1st thought was also that he'd get cold knees.

TeddyBear5 · 03/05/2015 09:09

He was outside for exactly 30 secs, pressed up against his warm father and straight into a maternity ward, renowned for their heat! Do you honestly think he was cold?

HappydaysArehere · 03/05/2015 09:10

He is lovely and so are his clothes. He is still a baby and there is time for jeans or whatever later on. I would have put him in a little jacket as it was cool yesterday but he was out for only a minute or two.

Icimoi · 03/05/2015 09:13

usualsuspect, are you saying that toddlers' peripheral nervous systems and ability to withstand cold have mysteriously changed since the 1950s?

KatieScarlettreregged · 03/05/2015 09:16

My DS has a very similar outfit for parties at that age (16 years ago).
I bought them from M&S and he looked adorable. The shoes were from Clarks.
However, he does now live in shorts around the house/halls, so be warned... ;)

LaurieMarlow · 03/05/2015 09:17

That 1940s look does nothing for me, but meh, they're very safe and quite dull in their tastes.

And OP, I totally agree with you, it wasn't weather appropriate, regardless of how long he spent outdoors. It was bloody freezing yesterday in London.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 03/05/2015 09:23

All of my ds's wore t-bar shoes when they were George's age, it was 15-20 years ago mind, I loved George's look .

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2015 09:24

I have missed my chance to dress my DSs as toddlers from the 1950s.

meglet · 03/05/2015 09:27

I doubt he was cold but he looks like he's wandered out of a 1940's picture book, really odd considering they are meant to be modern royals. He needs some cute dungarees.

merrymouse · 03/05/2015 09:27

Again, I wouldn't dress my children in those clothes, but my children's pictures aren't scanned and analysed by people in Japan, America, France etc., and it is unlikely that people will be particularly interested in my children's baby photos in 500 year's time. Even if we have a revolution, George will still be an important historical figure, whether he likes it or not. He was wearing a uniform.

It might even be that wearing a uniform in public gives him a certain amount of anonymity in private, assuming he isn't with his parents.

usualsuspect333 · 03/05/2015 09:29

I felt the cold in the 1960s,in fact I spent most of my childhood bloody freezing in a house with no central heating.

SoupDragon · 03/05/2015 09:35

I would love to see photos of the DC of the "judgy pants posters" so that I can judge offer constructive criticism :)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/05/2015 09:35

In the interests of research I've just watched the footage on the BBC website. He was outdoors for about 10 seconds. Here is a picture of how he was dressed. Can see no issue with any of it at all. Not even all that formal!
