to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

Mumof4worried · 22/04/2015 19:09

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

I agree with you, richardthecornhole, go fuck yourself is a great political argument.

soontobemumofthree · 22/04/2015 19:41

I havent seen a comment yet which says a reason not to vote UKIP. The only argument is

  • OP hasnt done enough research
  • some UKIP representatives have views you find offensive.
Surely all parties have some people in them like that.

Racism and homophobia are not UKIP policies I have ever read/seen promoted.

Why can't you have a points based system for Europe and the rest of the world instead of free movement for Europe and points for rest of world? Why is that racist? Isn't it fairer? I can see it can't be done if we are part of European union, but what is wrong with that principle?

Why would you be a troll just because you support UKIP?

I actually won't be voting UKIP but there is such massive media hostility and I don't understand why tbh.

Also it doesnt seem possible to have a valid opinion that is different from mainstream without having to be shamed when you express it.

It is possible that uncontrolled immigration where the OP lives has put extra strain on the public services. People keep saying it is nothing to do with imigration but of course it is. I don't know that UKIP will fix that. Maybe immigration is overall positive for economy but that doesnt help if it isnt positive for your life.

TravellingToad · 22/04/2015 19:42

RosesareSublime

The UKIP manifesto says that they wish to

"End unfair ATOS-style work capability assessments and return the system and funding to GPs
Increase Carers’ Allowance to match Job Seekers’ Allowance - £572 more a year"

so yes that is EXACTLY what they wish to do. I don't know why people don't READ their policies! (sorry not trying to pick on you, i wish everyone would read it!!)

DoraGora · 22/04/2015 19:43

Um, because free movement of people is one of the provisions of the Treaty of Rome, perhaps.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/04/2015 19:43

Our "British way of life" is obviously

  • Marks and Spencer (cofounded by an Eastern European Jewish immigrant)
  • Winston Churchill (son of an American immigrant)
  • drinking tea (from India)

Hope that clarifies

scatteroflight · 22/04/2015 19:43

Those who enquire what "our way of life" is - have you ever travelled? Have you ever observed that other countries are different? I grant that when one lives and breathes their own culture and country it can be difficult to put your finger on it's unique qualities. Yet you only have to go abroad to notice that everything, even in neighbouring countries, feels different. From sights, sounds, behaviours, customs, culture. That is to not even examine differences in law, institutions, government etc etc.

A way of life is the product of it's people. Lets say that 40 million Brits emigrate tomorrow, and 30 million Germans arrive. Net migration would be -10 million. We'd also be fantastically efficient and organised. But would we still be British?

My example is absurd of course but the same thing is happening only slower. We are slowly, inevitably being replaced. Look at the statistics and the direction of travel. Are the number of British people increasing? Or the numbers of immigrant minorities? Where are we headed?

Again, this may not matter to you. That is an acceptable view. But it cannot be denied that it is happening.

catgirl1976 · 22/04/2015 19:43

Thankfully it's really a bit of an irrelevance that you're going to vote UKIP.

Most of the country has the education, sense, humanity and common decency not to vote for them. Coupled with the current voting sytem, they'll be lucky to get more than one seat. Thank god.

JanineStHubbins · 22/04/2015 19:45

Yeah I reckon Farage failing to win the seat in South Thanet will be the Portillo moment of the election.

OnlyLovers · 22/04/2015 19:46

30 million Germans arrive. ... We'd also be fantastically efficient and organised

Sorry, I can't get past this breathtakingly offensive stereotype.

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 22/04/2015 19:46

Have you ever spoken to someone who has moved here from India, America, Canada etc? They have to jump through so many hoops, we do not have an open door policy...it is hard to get here!
Within Europe we have free movement of people, some of my family have moved to Spain, my friend spent 7 years working ingermany, my partner spent two years in France, so I think we benefit from free movement within Europe.
If you reaesrch the stats of how much people from mainland Europe cost us in terms of benefits and how much they pay in terms of taxes you will see that they are not the problem. If you believe that they are you are being manipulated by a divisive and fear mongering party.

Redglitter · 22/04/2015 19:47

If you're voting for UKIP then have the courage of your convictions and admit it instead of changing names and being scared to tell anyone in rl

ilovesooty · 22/04/2015 19:47

If 30 million Italians arrive will we all be lazy lecherous bad drivers? Hmm

catgirl1976 · 22/04/2015 19:48

If 30 million French arrive we will all be effortlessly chic and have mistresses.

OnlyLovers · 22/04/2015 19:48

That's right, sooty. Grin

Topseyt · 22/04/2015 19:48

You vote however you want to vote. You should not be ashamed of it.

If UKIP weren't so anti-women etc. then I would gladly vote for them as a protest against the others, who have been all talk but no action on immigration / referendums etc. None any better than the others.

Labour screwed up the economy and left a bad legacy (never was a fan of Blair). LibDems, not for me. Conservatives may be the best of a bad bunch. All have dithered and shied awa from immigration. They need forced into action somehow, so some kind of protest vote is needed in order to kick their arses. It is just how to deliver that protest that occupies me now.

Personally, I think it is a shame the Monster Raving Looney Party don't seem to be around now. I remember when Screaming Lord Sutch would pitch up wherever he could. He appealed to my humour.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/04/2015 19:48

I asked this on another UKIP thread? What's going to happen to all the UK citizens living in the EU when we leave the EU? I think it's 2.3 million - many of them retirees. Can someone voting UKIP answer?

catgirl1976 · 22/04/2015 19:49

If 30 million Dutch arrive we will all smoke pot and ride bicycles past tulip fields.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 22/04/2015 19:49

Are UKIP pro life? It's difficult to find anything about the party's stance on abortion, which suggests to me its an unpopular one.

silverglitterpisser · 22/04/2015 19:49

Yanbu to exercise ur right to vote for whomever u wish but yabu to vote for any party without fully researching n understanding their policies.

I would rather stick hot pins in my eyes than vote UKIP, personally, but I respect anyone who uses an informed vote no matter my views on the party they r voting for.

catgirl1976 · 22/04/2015 19:50

If 30 million Spanish arrive we will all eat paella and do mean things to donkeys.

RosesareSublime · 22/04/2015 19:50

It is possible that uncontrolled immigration where the OP lives has put extra strain on the public services

without doubt it put strain on services near where I am, we have had documentaries about it.

Budgeting for new head counts never happened under labour gov so we had class rooms flooding with DC who couldn't speak word of English, hospitals etc etc having to desperately pull funding from meals on wheels to pay for it!!

It happened at a time when NHS was in crisis ( as ever) and yet according to Tony Blair could afford to cope with sudden mass influx?
A polish friend of mine was earning £30 an hour as an interpreter, she worked all over and who was footing her and all her collegues bills?

Its hard as on one hand we were told we were in crisis and couldn't afford more MW and then Tony opens up our borders and suddenly lots of money is coming from somewhere to support it all?

Where does any one think this money magically appears from, who gets hit the hardest? The poor, the disabled, and people at the bottom of the heap?

All those so beloved of Labour Confused

scatteroflight · 22/04/2015 19:50

Onlylovers - a joke complimenting a nation on its legendary prowess at efficiency is "breathtakingly offensive"? Perhaps you'd like to unpack that one for me? Do you find the idea that British people like queuing also "breathtakingly offensive"?

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/04/2015 19:50

They want to reduce the legal upper limit for abortions to 12 weeks I think, Moomin.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/04/2015 19:50

If 30 million Danish arrive we'll all be icily troubled female detectives. With a great collection of Lego

(Except there aren't 30 million Danes)

catgirl1976 · 22/04/2015 19:53

I hope it's 30 million Belgians. Think of the chocolate and beer. Although there might not be enough of them either :(
