to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

Mumof4worried · 22/04/2015 19:09

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

scatter - I was poking fun at your posts with my "mild amusing stereotypes" - not at other nations.

And yes, queing or drinking tea is a lazy racial stereotype. HTH.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/04/2015 20:17

What about the British stereotype of ruthless arms dealers and warmongers who once conquered one third of the

The British stereotypes of themselves are always as cosy loveable pedantic introverts.

PeachyPants · 22/04/2015 20:18

I'm hoping for a labour government but I don't think you should feel shamed by voting for UKIP, I know lots of UKIP supporters and their not loonies, fruitcakes or closet racists (was that what Cameron said?). Personally I hate the negative campaigning, all the stuff about SNP and their evil plans if Labour get in has got right up my nose in this election and now we've got bluekip fear mongering too, just vote for who you want.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/04/2015 20:19

Globe that should say

CornwallsFinest · 22/04/2015 20:19

I live in Cornwall and our house prices are driven up crazily by inland migrants retiring to the coast to live out the rest of their days.

So not, not all areas with a high proportion of unattainable house prices is down to immigration. 23% of the population in Cornwall are retired with 96% of the population being white British. We have oversubscribed schools, school leavers, as well as professionals, struggling to get jobs and our only A&E hospital is on black alert. My grandfather requires a heart bypass and due to the local hospital not having beds and the next closest hospital in Devon also being put on black alert, he has to go to London for his op. He's 76.

Its called economics and no specific type of person is to blame for it.

Maddiefan · 22/04/2015 20:21

Never mind a points system for immigration; I'm beginning to think there should be an intelligence-based points system for being allowed to have the vote, in which anyone stupid enough to support UKIP automatically doesn't reach the threshold.

CornwallsFinest · 22/04/2015 20:21

Sorry, terrible grammar in my second paragraph there Blush

OnlyLovers · 22/04/2015 20:21

scatter, see what catgirl says, but additionally: yes, queuing or drinking tea IS an offensive lazy racial stereotype about the British.

But my point was really that I couldn't take the rest of your post seriously when you used such a silly, lazy and cliched example to make your point.

TendonQueen · 22/04/2015 20:22

The phrase 'limit women's bodily autonomy' is really not helpful or informative. Can we not say what we mean, ie they're going to restrict abortion further? Otherwise it could be that they're going to ban women wearing trousers or something. I wouldn't welcome either policy but it doesn't help to be needlessly vague.

OP, I don't share your political view but at least you're going to vote. The most annoying people are those who go on smugly about how they're not going to vote because they don't like any of them, they're all as bad as each other, it's just going along with the system etc, ignoring the fact that their stance gets them nowhere and they moan about it all regardless. If everyone voted and voted for what they really believed in, the system would work better.

It's your vote!

WhereIsMYJonathanSmith · 22/04/2015 20:25

I can't be bothered to RTFT but anyone is free to vote for whatever candidate they want to. Thank god!

And IMHO to all of those posters who feel that we should continue as a country giving free housing, benefits and health treatment to all and sundry, would you be prepared to practice your beliefs and allow total strangers to walk into your homes and help themselves to all you own and have worked for? Hhmm? Because that is in effect what this country is doing.

stircrazyinthecountry · 22/04/2015 20:26

Without immigrants the NHS wouldn't work, without immigrants that wouldn't work.....What absolute nonsense. Without immigrants we would have to recruit and train our own.

TravellingToad · 22/04/2015 20:26

hmmm really helpful maddiefan doesn't make you seem like a prick at all Hmm

TyrannosaurusBex · 22/04/2015 20:30

UKIP know perfectly well that intelligent, cultured people don't vote for them.

The OP sounds like a member of their target audience

parsnipbob · 22/04/2015 20:31

My Dad came to England 30 years ago having been imprisoned and tortured in his home country. Many of his friends were killed. He now calls this country home.

You do realise many immigrants who come here are escaping similar horrific lives? Do you really think anyone would choose to come and live here if they could have a decent life in their country of origin? So no, actually your 5 hour wait in a and e or the fact your primary school is full isn't a big deal. Get some fucking perspective.

Also, do any anti immigrant beaters realise that the British spent the best part of the last few centuries happily invading other countries?

mumofthemonsters808 · 22/04/2015 20:32

Vote for who you want, it's your decision, if you agree with Ukip put your cross against their candidates name. People have the right to vote for the party they agree with.

ChoudeBruxelles · 22/04/2015 20:33

stircrazyinthecountry
How long do you think it takes to train nurses, doctors, physios, ots, pharmacists ... ?

There is a huge shortage even with immigrants. Where I live the acute hospitals do a recruitment drive for nurses and poach staff from community hospitals trust and then vice versa.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 22/04/2015 20:33

If its a vote between UKIP and the Conservatives, speaking honestly, who would you you vote for? They are very similar parties in the end.

If we got to the point where those were the only two options, I'd leave the country. The thought of a UKIP/Tory coalition has me already making provisional plans to get out.

Momzilla82 · 22/04/2015 20:35

I'd just like to say I'm pleased the OP is registered and intends to vote. Whether I agree with her choice or not, I'm just pleased she's exercising her democratic right. unlike so many others I know in RL

alteredbeast · 22/04/2015 20:35

I think Britain only takes 1% of worldwide refugees. Most actually migrate to neighbouring countries much poorer than us.

They are merely seeking the wealth that we stole from them. I think we (Europe) should take MORE refugees actually.

It also disgusts me how the poor people who tried to get across the Mediterranean are dehumanised in the press. Described merely as 'migrants' or 'Europe's' problem. They were fucking human beings, children as well.

OP blaming migration is a convenient scapegoat for the masses. Believe me the real problem is greed, elitism and inequality in wealth. 1% of the world's displaced people and children is not who you should be blaming for society's ills.

dingit · 22/04/2015 20:36

I consider myself of above average intelligence, and have never considered voting UKIP before. However I watched Nigel Farage being interviewed this morning, and thought he came across very well, and agreed with most of what he said.
There is something very creepy about his face though!

catgirl1976 · 22/04/2015 20:38

That's the evil leaking out dingit

scatteroflight · 22/04/2015 20:38

Onlylovers - but you all made my point for me by highlighting differences between cultures. A stereotype is not a stereotype if others do not recognise it. So thank you for illustrating so neatly that all the countries in Europe have unique identities that are worth preserving.

I note not one person has argued against my point about direction of travel. I assume therefore that you are looking forward to a future of increased immigration, further multiplication of cultural differences and the eventual end of a recognisably British way of life. I hope it lives up to your expectations.

catgirl1976 · 22/04/2015 20:38

PS - Hitler 'came across really well' too.
