I can't bake a cake to save my life but every other mum seems to confidently knock up a perfect spongey masterpiece for any occasion!! When did they all learn this?!!!

FortyFacedFuckers · 15/04/2015 20:57

I can cook or bake!! My poor ds!

NickNackNooToYou · 15/04/2015 20:58

I bloody hate anything 'crafty' or 'arty' I'm rubbish at it and hate the mess

I can knock up a cake in 10 minutes though and happily bake all day with the DCs.

Just keep glittery painty shit away from me Wink

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 15/04/2015 20:59

I never have wipes/tissues/snacks when dd really needs them.... the times I do have them they dont get used!

Shamalamalam · 15/04/2015 20:59

Fancy plaits and elaborate hairstyles

Loads of DD2's friends rock up at school with all manner of French plaits or waterfall or fishtail, or whatever.

I can just about manage a pony tail and a standard plait. I don't seem to have enough hands or fingers.

Fortunately DD1 seems to have mastered them so I leave it to her

Owllady · 15/04/2015 21:00

I'm with you!
Though my youngest made me make some cakes for the cake sale (last day of term) so in my fifteen years of mothering I helped him make some but they were rock hard and I thought, fuck it, cover them in lots of pretty icing they'll look fine.....
When went to buy (them all) they'd all gone Confused I dreaded the dental bill
Argh!

Hassled · 15/04/2015 21:00

Mine are older now but I was always shite at imaginary play - all that "let's pretend we're in a magic castle" stuff. I just couldn't be arsed with it.

Flossiechops · 15/04/2015 21:00

Sew. I've just had to wonder web ds Cubs badges in because I am literally that shite!

LokiBear · 15/04/2015 21:02

I can't do plaits. I blame dd and her flyaway, curly hair.

GinnelsandWhippets · 15/04/2015 21:05

Patience and being playful.

rednsparkley · 15/04/2015 21:06

I can't do fancy hairstyles either - there are some very talented mummies at our school whose girls have all manner of fancy styles - my DD gets a fishtail plait at most - and that's only cos I have YouTubed how to do them Grin

PrettyLittleMitty · 15/04/2015 21:07

Everything mentioned so far Shock

I can't bake, sew, do crafty/arty things, no good with hair styles and I never have wipes when we need them.

There must be something I'm good at Confused

TeenAndTween · 15/04/2015 21:07

Plaits and fancy hairstyles too here.

crassula · 15/04/2015 21:07

Arts and crafts for me too. Hate it. DS hates it too, and I think that's probably my fault.

Absolutely love imaginary play and anything science-related, though.

Crap at cooking, but do love making a mess whilst trying to cook with DS.

RatOnnaStick · 15/04/2015 21:07

Craft here too. I have no ability or patience and can't bear gommed-up hands from paint or glue or bloody glitter. I can build lego for hours, race toy cars, bake a (shit) cake and run for hours outside but show me some card, scissors, glue or sodding sponge painting and I run screaming.

Holidayornot · 15/04/2015 21:09

Wtf is a Mummy skill?
I make loads of money. Is that a Mummy skill?

awfulomission · 15/04/2015 21:10

Tidying.

KiaOraOAotearoa · 15/04/2015 21:10

Can't do french plait/fish tale/elaborate hairdo. But I am learning and I will be able to. I hope.
I can't 'get down' and play imaginary games. It bores me. I want to tidy them all up. Basically, I've never played with my DD, tea parties and putting stuffed toys to bed.... Nah. We talk a lot, we read to each other, we play chess/board games/snap etc, we have common hobbies etc, but I never was able to do the imaginary play.

crassula · 15/04/2015 21:11

Yes, that's a Mummy skill.

crassula · 15/04/2015 21:11

in reply to Holiday

KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/04/2015 21:12

Lego

Shamalamalam · 15/04/2015 21:12

Actually, I struggle with craft too. I love craft and sewing and stuff like that when I'm doing it for myself, but I struggle doing it with the kids

It really pisses me off when they don't do it right. Blush

DH loves it so I leave him to it.

CalicoBlue · 15/04/2015 21:14

I bake lovely cakes and always wanted to get involved in the craft stuff. Though my kids don't like cakes and hate craft.

I was useless at playing dollies and barbie stuff, all the imaginary play stuff. Bored me silly. So glad they are beyond that now. Can't do french plait or any of that stuff.

queeneileen · 15/04/2015 21:14

I can't bake, I have a tenuous grasp on housekeeping, and I can barely feign interest in his "hobbies", ie sports and computer games.

I can however talk to him, give him advice, make his favourite foods, and sit and crack jokes with him.

girliefriend · 15/04/2015 21:17

I love doing plaits (am ace at french plaits) and have ended up with a dd who won't let me do anything more than tie her hair in a pony tail Grin

I think patience is what lets me down, I used to think I was quite a patient person pre dd

maroonedwithfour · 15/04/2015 21:18

I hate board bored games.
