I can't bake a cake to save my life but every other mum seems to confidently knock up a perfect spongey masterpiece for any occasion!! When did they all learn this?!!!

OP posts:
LittleMilla · 15/04/2015 21:18

I'm amazing at doing hair and shit - French plaits, the whole deal. I've got two boys Angry

Crap at imaginary play, dens, play doh (why why why) and excessive craft mess. Will happily read a book and bake (if I'm in charge of mixing).

Hoping things will get better as they get older...Hmm

Shinyshoes2 · 15/04/2015 21:18

The park, I literally hate the park it bores me....arts and crafts and imaginative play bores me to tears too and I can't be bothered

toffeeboffin · 15/04/2015 21:18

Home décor. Cleaning. I am really bad, no inclination at all.

Imagination/story telling I'm good at, baking also.

DS has just had a crew cut so plaiting skills aren't really necessary.

SaucyJack · 15/04/2015 21:19

Keeping a clean, organised home.

I probably could do it; I just don't want to.

BathshebaDarkstone · 15/04/2015 21:21

Another one who can't do fancy hairstyles or sew.

CMOTDibbler · 15/04/2015 21:22

Showing great enthusiasm for school plays/ orchestra/choir. I mean, some people genuinely gush about it, and I can only think 'but its dire, it really is'.

Faking interest in babies. I'm really not interested and have to work really hard to manage an 'aah, cute' with conviction. Surely other people aren't as entranced as they make out?

Nayville · 15/04/2015 21:24

Cooking Sad I have such low confidence about it

BastardGoDarkly · 15/04/2015 21:24

Shit fingers with hair here too, there should be a 'uniform' hair do for playgroup

I can do imaginary play, and making up stories.

Shit at baking, but can hold my own at football Wink

TheFirstOfHerName · 15/04/2015 21:25

Neither DH nor I can bake. Thankfully DS1 has stepped up and taken on the family baking role.

I'm not good at the Pinterest type stuff: themed parties with decorations, repurposing household items into kitsch, etc.

BathshebaDarkstone · 15/04/2015 21:26

Shiny take your smartphone to the park and MN! That's what I do! Grin

Ratfinkandbobo · 15/04/2015 21:28

Decorating, cleaning, sewing and being organised, art and crafts!

blacktreaclecat · 15/04/2015 21:28

I can't bake but DH can and so can MIL. They both do a fair amount of baking with DS, who is already better at it than me at 2.10. MIL will take orders for birthday cakes for DS going forward.
I can't really do craft either. TBH I don't care. He isn't a crafty child, maybe he takes after me.

firefly78 · 15/04/2015 21:28

patience and playing

I can: help with homework, understand social media, facilitate required craft projects and sing nursery rhymes. The teenagers particularly appreciate the last one. Grin

StayGoldPonyBoy · 15/04/2015 21:29

I cook, bake and I'm a hairdresser so my DD should, in theory, have great hair, right? Wrong. I can never be arsed to faff about with hers before nursery. It's well cared for but it gets French braided or ponytailed like all the other girls. She falls out with me because she knows I can do Elsa and Anna hair but I just won't Wink

I'm crappy at imaginary play. Stories I can do, so we compromise by me telling her half a story and she plays out the ending, like a choose your own adventure book in real lifeGrin

Can't sew though, and crafty shit is beyond me. Shop bought costumes in this house, please. I can't fake interest in babies either, I like mine because mine are the best babies ever, but yours probably just looks like a cheerful potato to me.

wheresthebeach · 15/04/2015 21:29

Board (bored???) games - oh the horror.
Educational games - no...do work, then play. Let's not dress this up as fun!

dynevoran · 15/04/2015 21:31

I have not yet developed asbestos fingers.

worriedmum100 · 15/04/2015 21:37

I've mastered the clean (ish) organised home. My life is governed by lists.

But I lack patience (generally). Hate/am no good at arty crafty shite. Will happily read books, do stickers, chat, cuddle, go on long walks, play football ( a bit), the park is ok as long as there's a bench. Avoid involvement in imaginary play other than the odd "mmm" " ahhhh" "wow" comment. Luckily DS is happy to construct lego items alone. I tried to get involved once to build the actual car the lego kit was intended to make but DS wanted to make some random shapes instead!

Have made pizza once. The odd cake but really can't be arsed too often.

CaptainFabulous · 15/04/2015 21:38

I'm shit with birthdays. Every year the day before is a rush, I've not got a cake, and run out of candles.

Last year I forgot to give DS his card and eventually binned it 2 months later - unwritten.

IFinishedTheBiscuits · 15/04/2015 21:40

I know you're not meant to say this but I'm terrible at reading with my kids. I love reading myself, but get bored with kids books very quickly and when they get the same word wrong on EVERY SINGLE PAGE... I do lose the will to live a little bit.

kewtogetin · 15/04/2015 21:41

I rock at anything creative, crafting/baking/stories etc but ducking despise nerf gun battles/sword fights/football, but as j have 2 boys it's impossible to escape "can we play football mummy".....
Me: "no, let's make glitter butterflies instead"!

Pookamoo · 15/04/2015 21:42

Patience!

rebelfor · 15/04/2015 21:43

The ability to think 'frig it, let them make a happy mess'. I'm constantly tidying any crumbs/spills and won't allow glitter, glue and stuff without 2 newspapers and an old sheet down first, and only one colour out at a time if the felt tips are being used. Blush

LovelyBranches · 15/04/2015 21:44

I'm crap at being organised about food. DS is starting to wean and all the other mums have little pots of lovely little fruit, mall cut to the right portion size. Poor DS had boob as I completely forgot any snacks.
