I can't bake a cake to save my life but every other mum seems to confidently knock up a perfect spongey masterpiece for any occasion!! When did they all learn this?!!!

I can do plaits ( but no call for them with 3 boys) am good at and enjoy arts and crafts, sewing ,cooking but rubbish at tidying, keeping a straight face while telling them off, and cannot master Playstation at all! Cannot even feign interest in Minecraft, and often forget its bedtime. Also pretty bad at mornings.
However I have read the whole of the Harry Potter series out loud, twice,! With voices.
Also cannot produce an evenly baked cake.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/04/2015 00:59

I have horrible arthritic finger so plaits of any sort are hard work for me, especially as DD has fine hair that sticks to itself and is impossible to separate into sections.

I have coeliac disease so tend not to do any baking whatsoever, on the grounds that if I can't eat it, I'm buggered if I'm going to spend the time and energy making it. I could do GF versions, but they are never quite as good.

When they were little I never, ever had snacks of any sort on hand, yet constantly wondered why my children were grumpy wee shites for a lot of the time. Still not great with snacks and they are 13, 8 and 6.

I have no patience.

On the upside, both DH and I are crafty types, so while they may not get fed Blush, they will have a fab toy or new jumper/pyjamas/bag/dress up to show for it at the end of the day. Thankfully they have mastered the art of the toasted sandwich on the George Foreman and beans on toast and can now reach the biscuit tin, so I am free to craft without guilt during the holidays Wink

LackaDAISYcal · 16/04/2015 01:03

but woe betide them if they want to get involved in the craftiness...I growl at them if they try and have a go themselves Blush and have no patience for teaching them anything.

FatSwan · 16/04/2015 01:18

I cook under duress daily. Dinner is my hell. I would love to have a personal chef. I hate cooking so much-DH loves it though.

Baking? No fucking chance.

I have never made clothes or costumes for DD. Every other mum I meet seems to do these regularly.

Bergamot22 · 16/04/2015 01:28

I can't have children. A definite mummy must have skill.

toffeeboffin · 16/04/2015 01:41

Costume making?! WTF? Is that a skill I need to acquire too? (DS is only15 months, not had much chance for costume opportunities)

God help me.

Cleaning, tidying, any kind of crafts, baking, planning activities.

CheerfulYank · 16/04/2015 03:50

Cleaning here too.

I really don't understand how people have such clean organized houses! Where ate their drawers of shit that they don't know what to do with? Blush

CheerfulYank · 16/04/2015 03:51

CheerfulYank · 16/04/2015 03:54

Yay4May I'm the same. Adored imaginary play as a child, loathe it as an adult.

ftmsoon · 16/04/2015 06:47

I'm discovering I am just not as good at thing as I should be. DD is 11months and my first attempt at sewing a dress/costume was ok from a distance, but don't look too closely! My cooking is not great and very samey. My house keeping is more lax than I realized. Fortunately DH has just become a SAHP so he will be responsible for more of it now!
I am looking forward to trying hair styles and crafty stuff, but fear my efforts will be found wanting. Blush

Lesausage · 16/04/2015 07:35

I love sewing, crafts, baking, make my own clothes, bunting all that shit BUT I hate playing with kids!

I divide the toys and tools for imaginative play and then I sit back and play on the iPad watch their imaginations grow :)

justwondering72 · 16/04/2015 07:44

Hmmm I am good at baking, crafty stuff, board and card games and don't mind some manageable mess around. Love anything science project-y, and like a good den building session. Not good at imaginary play though, bores me to tears.

What I am really crap at is being physical - running, football, playing tag etc. I'm too unfit, bad back, weak pelvic floor, makes it all too hard work. So I leave all that to DH - but worry I'm teaching my boys that women are fragile / lazy / slow / not good at sport.

Bifflepants · 16/04/2015 07:53

I NEVER have tissues when they're needed.

HollyJollyDillydolly · 16/04/2015 09:04

Oh. Ooh. I can do hair! !
That's something. Hate craft, the mess and glitter. Bloody glitter. Gets everywhere. Craft stays at playgroup.

littlehouseinthebigwoods · 16/04/2015 09:06

I don't possess the skill to get my daughter to go anywhere near a vegetable, or for that matter to consider eating anything that isn't rice or toast.

This is a bit of a slap in the face, as I love cooking!

Also the sleep thing. DD is 2.5 and still doesn't settle on her own or sleep through the night. Fortunately I do seem to possess patience!!

FromAtoZ · 16/04/2015 09:19

I'm with pink I can't open those stupid bottles either.
I also have no patience when it comes to home work (DH ends up doing it) and I think they get far too much for their age.

Oh and I hate just hate baking I can't do it, Mil normally does it and if it's for school I pass it off as my ownBlush

Shamalamalam · 16/04/2015 09:31

I'd also like to add Minecraft.

I don't get it, I don't see the point in it, it bores me silly, I don't want to talk about it for hours or watch videos on YouTube of other people playing it and I can't work out how the hell you download mods

emzii206 · 16/04/2015 09:39

I consider myself quite a good cook...I can concoct a variety of yummy dishes....but what dish do I inevitably cock up every time??? Spag Bol Hmm

Vintagebeads · 16/04/2015 09:53

I must be totally shit ,I can't think of a time when I played with my kids except helping build lego ,they play with each other.
I like crafts and glitter though maybe that saves me.
I also hate bloody play dates, soft play and dh does all the cooking, I am a catch I tell you Wink
