To wonder why parents let their children go out dressed inappropriately

Now I know the weather is warning up, and you expect to see chidkren in shorts, t shirts, skirts etc etc but why oh why do parents allow children, I'm talking Young children age 8-9-10 go out dressed in belly tops and shorts that are that short they are exposing some of their bum? It really grates me as surely young girls should not be going round dressed like this, it's inapropriate imo and I wouldn't dream of letting my own daughter walk round in such a state.

I hate seeing children dressed in shoes which they cannot run, jump and climb in.

Shorts and crop tops are ok, unless they say 'hot chick/babe/I'm a princess or some other crap on it.

MangoJuggler · 10/04/2015 17:54

What is chavvy please?

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2015 17:54

I just think they look chavvy, children of that age should look like children imo and not like teenagers or mini adults.

And perhaps their parents think your child looks awful.

Who cares? When you judge them, you know they won't be in the least bit interested in your verdict, yes?

Of course at the beach or pool, that's completely different, you can hardly expect a child to sit on the beach in the red hot sunshine wearing a jumper and jeans can you.

Your distasteful may be a 9 year olds comfortable.

Your tasteful may be my prissy.

I'd rather my child had the confidence to wear what she wanted and was comfortable in at that age without being embarassed of her body, finding it distasteful and being concerned about people like you having wrong opinions about her being comfortable and a child.

Pass th cake sparkles...

SpiritOfTheRitz · 10/04/2015 17:56

I actually think clothes like that are in many ways more appropriate for children than for adults. I don't think they are "sexy" when they are that age. They are just (children's) clothes.

I used to wear very short shorts as a child in the early 80s. That's just how shorts were then.

The only reason I worry about my preteen children exposing a lot of flesh is because I fret they will get sunburned.

ghostyslovesheep · 10/04/2015 17:56

I saw a woman yesterday showing her ANKLES I kid you not - it fair gave me the vapours Hmm

Twoplus3 · 10/04/2015 17:57

My daughter doesn't look awful so I couldn't care less. She's dressed tastefully, age appropriately and she's comfortable.

You want to know why people are interpreting you as basically saying they are dressing 'sexually' - it's because you used the word inappropriate a lot, plus scantily clad. Scantily clad is a heavily sexual term. Coupled with repeated use of inappropriate and that's why people are reading sexual.

Have you found that link yet? Any kids clothes shop will do.

Nightingalemumoftwo · 10/04/2015 17:58

it's inappropriate because it's nowhere near hot enough to wear a belly top and shorts. It needs to be around 25C imo.

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2015 17:58

Bloody hell ghosty. She'll have been a pole dancer or a stripper I expect.

Op

There is no rule book regarding belly tops.

Therefore you are judging others on how they dress their children.

Like others have said, weather, fashion contribute to their reasoning for letting their dc wear belly tops.

It's really not as inappropriate as you think.

MaudGonneAway · 10/04/2015 17:59

OP, you seem terribly confused abiut why this clothing is 'inappropriate'/'distasteful. What exactly is it you are objecting to? Are you surprised that some children, like some adults, dress in ways you don't like?

Incidentally, it seems to be a hard and fast rule that any posters who jkicks off a thread with 'in this day and age' is chock full of reactionary, ill-thought-out huffing and puffing.

Dr0pThePirate · 10/04/2015 17:59

Oh for god sake!

I'm going to have to get dressed now and go out to buy cheesecake!

Thanks a lot Angry

Twoplus3 · 10/04/2015 17:59

Why exactly should I go to the effort to provide a link, we all have children, some of us girls, and if you've been shopping lately, especially in places like Primark and Asda you'll know exactly the type of clothes on offer for Young girls, and they aren't brilliant.

thornrose · 10/04/2015 17:59

It took just 24 minutes for the true colours to be exposed by bringing out "chavvy".

My daughter doesn't look awful so I couldn't care less. She's dressed tastefully, age appropriately and she's comfortable.

It's all a matter of opinion though isn't it? And that is yours ^^

It might not be everyone elses, but no doubt you quite rightly don't care what other parents think when they look at the way she's dressed.

This is why judging other people's kid's clothes is so silly, can you see that?

Quitelikely · 10/04/2015 18:00

'She's dressed tastefully, age appropriately and she's comfortable'

Yes that's your perception of her.......

KoalaDownUnder · 10/04/2015 18:01

I totally don't get it.

Crop tops are way more 'inappropriate' (fuck that word is tiresome) on an adult than a 9-year-old, surely.

RJnomore · 10/04/2015 18:01

K - what is inappropriate about a child's belly or bum?

People are assuming you mean it in a sexualised way as you have been unable to explain otherwise.

Your daughter is obviously starting to have her own opinions. Good luck with this over the years.
