To wonder why parents let their children go out dressed inappropriately

Now I know the weather is warning up, and you expect to see chidkren in shorts, t shirts, skirts etc etc but why oh why do parents allow children, I'm talking Young children age 8-9-10 go out dressed in belly tops and shorts that are that short they are exposing some of their bum? It really grates me as surely young girls should not be going round dressed like this, it's inapropriate imo and I wouldn't dream of letting my own daughter walk round in such a state.

Nobody said short shorts were inappropriate, they're on about the ones that are cut away to let the bum cheeks hang out. There's a difference.

I judge men who have their trousers halfway down their arses, and men who wear ridiculous trendy Peter Andre type stuff.

I'm an equal opportunities judger.

MadgeFinn · 11/04/2015 20:09

I judge youths who wear grey dirty jogging pants too.

I think the best solution would be for everyone to buy clothes for everyone else's children. That way everyone would be happy.

Passmethecrisps · 11/04/2015 20:17

Was it clear that op was talking about clearly 'cut back' shorts designed to show the whole buttock? That wasn't my reading.

No doubt that this is a thorny issue.

Hamiltoes, you misinterpret: for context posh mums where i live tend to go for the 'pretty' look for their 10yr olds, no make up , nothing tight, no heels, girlish etc. I know my areas demographic thanks and what their characteristics/traits/habits are. I also work in an industry that analyses and exploits that day in day out so I provided that for context/background.

If you werent that savvy you could mistake her for 16. And sorry, anything that emphasizes your figure that tightly is sexual, as are heels and porn star make up on a 10year old. . Its an adult look and display, and display is sexual if certain things about that display are higlighted with those things. Inappropriate and totally sexualised. I stand by that. Her outfit is what i would see 19-30yr olds in- in no way would i want my child dressing like that at 10. What do you expect the world to do , suddenly say oh ok, heels/make/overtly and over tight clothes arent sexual. They are, and always have been, so just how do you expect that to change? Naieve. (sp?)

We NEED to get away from this modern phenomena of heels = SEXUAL, makeup = SEXUAL tight fitting clothes = SEXUAL flesh on show SEXUAL. Why!???? Sex is a natural thing that happens between a man and a woman, what does any of the above have to do with sex?? Somehow we see nakedness as sexual, we're born naked, we bathe naked, nothing sexual in either. How do you propose we do this? Confused

Hamiltoes · 11/04/2015 22:35

By not pointing the finger at any one wearing makeup as sexualising themselves? By not accusing flesh being on show as sexual promiscuity? By perpetuating the message that females can dress how they choose to without it being directly related to how sexual they are?

Damn, chavvy, common, little girls being compared to Vegas strippers...anyone who looks at a child and applies any of these terms to her because of the clothing she wearing is disgusting.

MadgeFinn · 11/04/2015 22:46

If we lived in an ideal world that would be wonderful. Unfortunately that is not so. But good luck with trying to change the concepts of the whole world.
But I don't agree with 10 year old girls walking round in heels, tight jeans and tons of makeup to prove your point. I'm shocked that you think that's ok.

fourteen · 12/04/2015 09:59

No, anyone who dresses a little girl like a Vegas stripper needs to take a long hard look at themselves.
