To wonder why parents let their children go out dressed inappropriately

Now I know the weather is warning up, and you expect to see chidkren in shorts, t shirts, skirts etc etc but why oh why do parents allow children, I'm talking Young children age 8-9-10 go out dressed in belly tops and shorts that are that short they are exposing some of their bum? It really grates me as surely young girls should not be going round dressed like this, it's inapropriate imo and I wouldn't dream of letting my own daughter walk round in such a state.

And now I really need cheesecake. Would it be wrong to detour via Asda on my run?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 10/04/2015 17:47

Your nine year old is the only girl in her class who wears shorts, dresses and t shirts? Yeah right....

OTOH I was at a country fair yesterday and the amount of little girls in long party dresses and clumpy shiny shoes was ridiculous - now that's inappropriate where shorts and a crop top would have been fine.

Twoplus3 · 10/04/2015 17:48

Of ocourse I'm not sexualising a child's belly, are you serious. I never said that, I just think they look terrible on Young children, when they are teenager maybe but 7 year olds.

I used to wear hot pants and tiny tops at that age. Because it was comfortable and I liked it. It was completely innocent.

What exactly is your issue with it? I don't like 'sexy' clothes on kids (say a push up bra at 10) or completely impractical clothes (heels) but short shorts and belly tops? Meh.

Discopanda · 10/04/2015 17:49

I have nothing to contribute, I'm just here for the comments. grabs popcorn

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 17:49

I need to take the dog for a walk, he's going to have to wait now goddess Wink

I honestly don't see the difference between showing off a foot and showing a bit of belly. I know society as a whole seem to have this thing that it's inappropriate, but a few years ago showing an ankle was the talk of the town. Perfectly innocent body parts being named as 'inappropriate' is really sad.

Twoplus3 · 10/04/2015 17:49

And no, she is not the only girl who wears shorts, t shorts, I never said that either. She was just wondering why some of tells other girls are allowed to wear belly tops and hot pants and she's not.

I don't think there's anything that bad about short tops actually. Shorts where bum cheeks are showing are not appropriate on anybody though.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 10/04/2015 17:50

What is inappropriate about it? Can you explain?

cococandyfloss · 10/04/2015 17:50

Since when have they been called Belly tops-gads-sounds awful! Were always crop tops in my day (old)

FenellaFellorick · 10/04/2015 17:50

what's sexual about a child's tummy?

do you have a link to the sort of clothes you are on about?

I personally don't look at a child wearing shorts or a top that shows their tummy and see that as sexual. I see a child wearing shorts and a top that shows their little childish tum. If the clothes themselves are sexual in some way maybe I'll change my tune. I'll wait for your link before I decide.

HighwayDragon · 10/04/2015 17:50

I'm not here to contribute, but I'm hungry

SummerHouse · 10/04/2015 17:50

Pants. Check.

That's my checklist done really.

That's the bare minimum though. Wink

I'm here all week.

HighwayDragon · 10/04/2015 17:51

Hahaha DiscoPanda epic x-post!

Twoplus3 · 10/04/2015 17:52

I just think they look chavvy, children of that age should look like children imo and not like teenagers or mini adults.

"and in this day and age I just don't think it's appropriate"

Why not then? And what do you mean by 'in this day and age'?

SummerHouse · 10/04/2015 17:53

Has everyone tried the nigella bailies, whisky and white choc cheesecake?

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 17:53

DING DING DING

Chavvy word has come out. That didn't take long

Twoplus3 · 10/04/2015 17:53

Omg where and when did I use the word sexual? Oh that's right, I didn't, they just look distasteful and that's it.

My 10 year old and her friend were running about in their vests and knickers at the beach yesterday.

Is that allowed?

Surfboredcat · 10/04/2015 17:53

My DD (6) went out with me into town to get some pasta.
She wore a swimming costume and a (see through) net underskirt with sunglasses and flip flops.
Is this inappropriate attire for a 6 year old? She certainly didn't think so and neither did I.

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 17:53

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 10/04/2015 17:53

Ah chavvy. HOUSE!

laughingcow13 · 10/04/2015 17:54

They have older sisters and want to dress like them?
