To wonder why parents let their children go out dressed inappropriately

Now I know the weather is warning up, and you expect to see chidkren in shorts, t shirts, skirts etc etc but why oh why do parents allow children, I'm talking Young children age 8-9-10 go out dressed in belly tops and shorts that are that short they are exposing some of their bum? It really grates me as surely young girls should not be going round dressed like this, it's inapropriate imo and I wouldn't dream of letting my own daughter walk round in such a state.

I have absolutely no idea what is inappropriate about a child showing their tummy?

Using the word chavvy looses any credibility your opinion had.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/04/2015 18:18

OP the issue is that you use a whole raft of judgemental, vague terms and refuse to actually say what the issue is.

Chavvy
Distasteful
Common
Inappropriate
Awful

There are all just nasty words. They don't actually mean anything. Try to articulate what the actual issue is so you can be told the issue is your eyes not the children's bodies.

Trust me my 13 year old dd would not allow me to "foist" my choice of clothes on her if the clothes I'd chosen weren't to her liking, but not has she ever come home from town with friends having bought a belly top or skirts, shorts that didn't fit, ie too short.

I don't understand why a crop top is common? Do you really judge people by their attire.

My DD spent much of 1 summer in an owl costume - was awesome.

Sparklingbrook · 10/04/2015 18:19

TheFairyCaravan · 10/04/2015 18:20

There's a girl of about 9/10 going up and down the road outside my house on rollerskates wearing a crop top and shorts. Maybe I should go and show her parents this thread!

Sparklingbrook · 10/04/2015 18:21

Mango I have some squirty cream do you want to dip your celery?

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2015 18:22

I don't understand why a nine year old child would ask her parent why other children don't dress similar to her Confused

Do you not live in a very diverse area?

Even if you don't, it's an odd thing for a child her age not to understand.

ChestyNut · 10/04/2015 18:22

Bit harsh stroke

My Dd (13) has gone out today wearing a Top Shop t-shirt and cream Lace shorts that look like a skirt and white Converse pumps. She is tall and skinny and I think she looks lovely, when I look back at my childhood photos I'm dressed similarly (not as stylish and overpriced though). If you can't wear skimpy clothes when you are young God knows when you can.The only thing I'm not keen on are young children dressed too grown up for their age i.e. hIgh heels and Maxi dress on an 7 year old, but everyone has different taste.

MangoJuggler · 10/04/2015 18:23

Mmmmmm squirty cream straight into me gob please.

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2015 18:25

I do hope none of the cakes being passed around this thread are from Greggs?

We can't have you lowering the tone.

I'm afraid you'll have to hand them all over to me for testing....

Koalafications · 10/04/2015 18:25

Grin @ this thread.

DancingDinosaur · 10/04/2015 18:27

My 7 year old chooses her own clothes. She has asked for a short top. I have no problem with that. Judge away. Who gives a crap Wink

SurlyCue · 10/04/2015 18:28

What is "common" i have heard this word used as an insult but my understanding of the word is that is something is common means it appears regularly (common cold) or there are lots of it. I cant for the life of me see what is wrong with that Confused

MadgeFinn · 10/04/2015 18:28

I think the OP has a good point about those shorts which are deliberately made to expose some of the bum. It doesn't look nice and isn't appopiate.
Many shops have come under fire for selling adult like clothes for young girls and these shorts certainly come under that category.

ditavonteesed · 10/04/2015 18:28

If I admit to having a chavvy 9year old with her arse and belly hanging out can I have cake.

The problem is that we have always said to her that her body is her choice, she can wear what she wants as long as it is seasonally appropriate and she is quite opinionated about what she wants to wear.

I would like to say I am supporting her strong character and she is growing into a girl who will one day be a woman that takes no shit, but to be honest I cant be arsed to argue with her and I hate it when she cries.

Passmethecrisps · 10/04/2015 18:29

I am being nice I think and am being ignored.

Pass me some cake, please. And an inappropriately sized glass of wine

Hulababy · 10/04/2015 18:30

Meh, re the 13y. My 13y occasionally wears a crop top - why not? She has the figure for it.
