To wonder why there has STILL been no donation?

This has probably been done, I know there was a long running thread about this very subject but I can't find it?
So, several months on I see Dax's parents have still not made the promised donation to Ronald McDonald hospice. On March 2nd they updated the Facebook page to say they works be making the donation 'very soon', but still nothing.
Am I the only one thinking they have no intention of donating any money out of the tens of thousands donated to them? That in fact they intend to keep it all and deny the very charity that provided them with so much support in the early weeks of their Childs life?
In fact, I don't think im the only one judging by the comments on the Facebook page.
I think they're hoping it will blow over and if they keep quiet long enough people will forget.

Does anyone know this Sam Bates?

She posted about loving karma an hour ago. I read as though she knows something they don't as she suggests her posts will disappear. But can't work out whether she is definitely not a supporter.

Lyinginwait888 · 12/04/2015 21:37

I thought exactly the same thing shewept. Definitely not a supporter.

Any mntters close by that can pass the gym!

shewept · 12/04/2015 21:41

I have to be honest if it all turns out they have kept quiet to seek the story. I still won't think any better of them. A quick message to say 'we can't discuss because we are working with a paper to raise more funds' would have kept everyone quiet for a while.

It will take a lot to for me to believe they planned all this, sat on the money, refused refunds, blocked people, deleted comments in order to raise more money.

shewept · 12/04/2015 21:44

london I bloody was on Wednesday. It was til later I realised it was Skegness. I knew they were in Skegness when the story first came out but completely forgot until TD mentioned the whole town was talking about mumsnet. Could have kicked myself. Half term is next time I am there. Might ask mil if she will pop down and scope it out. Except she is the least confrontational person I know.

RoseWithAThorn · 12/04/2015 21:45

I think they're happy for people to keep posting on the FB page. They appear to love attention. Part of me hopes they've made a huge donation to RMDH as it would benefit the charity greatly. I think most MN's would love to see a massive donation as well. I can live in hope...

I don't support this couple at all. I want to make that clear. There's something just 'not right' in the way they, or anyone close to them have commented. This made me think earlier this afternoon they've sold another story to the press

shewept · 12/04/2015 21:45

If this Sam Bates isn't a supporter, I can promise that TD is on the phone with Lee right now and everyone is panicking.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 12/04/2015 21:48

It seems a certain FB page has had it's privacy setting tightened up again

kewtogetin · 12/04/2015 21:51

Where is spudholes? She was in contact with TD a few days ago but hasn't been on the thread in a while.

The latest reply from Sam on the FB page suggests they are selling their story Hmm

RoseWithAThorn · 12/04/2015 22:24

Ok, bets are on whose going to be quoted from this thread in the article?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/04/2015 22:25

Maybe they can use the fee from the story to make it look like a big donation? Or maybe it will be DM sadface story about how their wee family was monstered by online stalkers...

Cantbelievethisishappening · 12/04/2015 22:25

One can only hope they WILL be giving a sizeable donation although why it has taken this long is beyond me

RoseWithAThorn · 12/04/2015 22:27

It'll be a DM sad face article about internet trolls no doubt. To try and deflect the fact they fucked over a charity and spent the money

ButchCassidy · 12/04/2015 22:28

I think you are spot on Rose.

RoseWithAThorn · 12/04/2015 22:29

I'm still wondering why the posted a donation had been made but omitted the amount. Or did they do that after selling their story for more money?

Cantbelievethisishappening · 12/04/2015 22:30

If this is the case I cannot understand why any newspaper would pay anyone to disclose how much they donated to a charity.... the money wasn't even theirs.

glasgowlass · 12/04/2015 22:34

Rose I hope you're wrong but have a feeling you're right. They are money grabbing scumbags who have pimped themselves out to the media, it's strange they haven't had a 'fanfare' for their "donation"! They will play the victim card & some misinformed people will fall for it hook, line & sinker.
I just feel sad. Sad for the people who gave in good faith. Sad for the families this charity supports who could do so much with a good donation. But mostly, I feel sad for that poor innocent boy. What chance does he have in life with parents like his?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/04/2015 22:34

What does strategy triumphs over morality even mean ?

drbonnieblossman · 12/04/2015 22:34

Possible they're not selling their story but this Sam bates has managed to get media attention and a story running?

And I'm thinking Sam bates has got to be a mumsnetter.
