Popular but tacky

Sorry, not really an AIBU and inspired by the Pandora thread so breaking a few MN 'rules'. I found it really interesting to see what people view as tacky. Agreed with some and was surprised by others.

My personal pet hates are those baby on board signs in the back window of many cars (wouldn't mention it in real life as one of my best friends has one), rings that say things like 'Mum' on them and streaky blonde highlights in dark hair.

Completely appreciate that we all have and are entitled to different tastes. Just fascinated by the strong but opposing responses that an innocuous item can cause. The things I've just listed are viewed as useful/beautiful by many other people.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 19/03/2015 14:53

drowned

Go up to the counter in John Lewis and ask for one. Grin

OnlyLovers · 19/03/2015 14:58

I love Converse (low-tops not high) and I'm 40!

I also like fake flowers. Grin They have to LOOK fake though; I do think ones that are trying to look real are naffola.

Adizzylass2014 · 19/03/2015 15:00

I hate big unsightly earrings, babies and toddlers with pierced ears. fake chanel bags. fake tan, fake ugg boots and people who use 'boy' as a middle name, yes where I am people actual call their offspring John - boy etc!

DrownedReindeer · 19/03/2015 15:02

Oh Lois, no John Lewis here.

I will be visiting the UK for Easter, I shall visit JL 'speshully.

YouBetterWerk · 19/03/2015 15:02

Bags with Louis Vuitton print, ankle bracelets, white washed jeans ( esp with with diamanté's Envy ) babies with ears pierced, and that relatively new god awful thing of guys wearing their hair in a bun on top of their heads.

DrownedReindeer · 19/03/2015 15:02

Actually, I really would love one for the ensuite (where the inlaws won't see it)

Should I get one made in individual wooden letters?

Overdone animal print on babies (a little can be cute, but when you see an entire pram decked out in leopard print and frills...)
Calling little girls princesses.
Character clothing on children too young to like said character/ask for item of clothing
Children over 3 with dummies in public.

Adizzylass2014 · 19/03/2015 15:05

Urgh and velour tracksuits

FuckItBucket · 19/03/2015 15:06

Kitty here kids at 45 month old still were baby grows. You are fine Grin

YouBetterWerk · 19/03/2015 15:10

Oh oh I remembered another.
Those god awful grey bears on birthday cards. (Me 2 You bears??) shudder

MozzchopsThirty · 19/03/2015 15:10

Whoever believes 'baby on board' signs are for emergency services are idiots!!!!
A child is not rescued 'first' at a RTC on the basis of a plastic sign,

Anyway mine:
Tattooed eyebrows - everyone I know has them at the moment
Those woollen headband things worn by adults
Anything in babies' hair

However I love fake nails, Uggs, Cath kidston and converse.
I admire women who can wear heels every day

MozzchopsThirty · 19/03/2015 15:12

Ooh I love babies in babygros Smile

squoosh · 19/03/2015 15:14

Fondling your true love's crotch on public transport.

Bogeyface · 19/03/2015 15:15

What should babies wear then? Ridiculously uncomfortable "outfits" which have to be changed several times a day so every co ordinates?

Babygros are perfect for them, soft, comfortable, easy to get in and out of, and can be washed and washed and washed.

There is no lovelier thing in the world than a teeny baby in a bright white babygro!

derxa · 19/03/2015 15:17

So basically everything that the people in My Fat Gypsy Wedding type programmes wear/have in their homes. I actually admire them for this because they don't give a flying fuck about what people think.

squoosh · 19/03/2015 15:17

Babygros aren't seen as tacky on MN. Quite the opposite in fact. Some people are quite competitive about how long they keep their kids in babygros for.

Bogeyface · 19/03/2015 15:19

Baby on Board signs ARE NOT and never have been to alert emergency services. Nor have they ever been a legal requirement.

Keeping your child in white babygrows until they are 5 is an MN law
