Threads I've read in the last half hour so....
I'm spending more than what a significant part of the UK earns in a year on a holiday
I'm voting Conservative
Owen Jones is a skid mark
I love UKIP immigration policy.

Us Socialists are unwelcome. AIBU? Or am I just reading the wrong bits?

I suspect people see what they want to see in MN.

Definitely.
and the rest too.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 21/03/2015 09:42

Xenia is still here. I think it's a sign that I've been on here too long/too much that I can spot her now. Grin

I was a little Hmm on one thread because another poster called her on the name change and she said she had never name changed when she so obviously had - there are 3 other recent names that I know about. Or else she has multiple personality disorder, but all with the same views and life experiences.

And I'm not surprised at all that 2 weeks AI in Greece/Cyprus can cost 8k considering that it is probably for a family of at least 4 in August and a lot of mumsnetters expect luxury hotels.

Our typical holiday is a week's B+B in a mid range hotel in Mallorca or the Canaries for 2 people in June or September and this usually costs over £1k once evening meals, drinks etc are included so I can see how it could very easily get up to £8k for AI in a nicer hotel for twice as long for more people at a more expensive time of year.

one person's perception of a post being 'goady' or 'rude' simply isn't an adequate reason to censure the poster. It implies that people need protection from having their emotions raised, which is a very modern idea and IMO not a very good one.

I could not agree more. MN started to go downhill the moment the word goading was inserted into the talk guidelines. It's a lazy and massively over-used accusation that is trotted out with tedious regularity by any group of very vociferous posters who just want to shut down the opinions of anyone who doesn't float their boat or tow their party line.

didyouwritethe · 21/03/2015 12:30

I couldn't agree more, BackCrack. The invention of "Goady Fucker" and the insistence that such a poster was as bad as a troll, was a bloody disaster for MN.

Mostly a Goady Fucker was identified as someone who did not toe the Labour Party line.

Or just disagreed with the usual gang. On anything.

LikeIcan · 21/03/2015 12:56

^ agree with last 2 posts. Irony being, some of the posters constantly calling 'goady fucker' aren't averse to a bit of goady fucking themselves. But such is life.
The big fierce debates are long gone, it's all very twee & tranquil now which is obviously how the majority want it.

RandomNPC · 21/03/2015 13:18

Mostly a Goady Fucker was identified as someone who did not toe the Labour Party line.

Yawn fucking yawn

Carrierpenguin · 21/03/2015 13:18

Surely it's good to have diverse views? Democracy needs debate, varying opinions etc. No one party is perfect, all have good/bad MPs, all have their share corruption as far as I can tell?

didyouwritethe · 21/03/2015 13:27

Indeed, Carrierpenguin. You would think so, wouldn't you?

RandomNPC · 21/03/2015 13:47

Anyone can post any view they want on MN, within the rules. Anyone can challenge them on it. That's the point. I wouldn't let being called 'goady' put me off in the slightest.

didyouwritethe · 21/03/2015 13:52

If a gang of posters report as "Goady" someone posting a minority view, the person posting that minority view could be banned. Happily that occurs a great deal less these days; and thank god and MNHQ for it. Not that I believe in god, in case anyone thinks I am being goady for mentioning a deity.

RandomNPC · 21/03/2015 14:30

I don't think MNHQ delete unless they feel they need to; I've only had one post deleted, when I posted something disparaging about Islam.

Pagwatch · 21/03/2015 15:04

I think posters only get deleted for being goady if they are being goady.

Pagwatch · 21/03/2015 15:07

I also think that some posters suggest they are being picked on by a 'gang' when they post shite and any number of posters call them on it.

MehsMum · 21/03/2015 15:20

Bumptious skidmark
Oh, he is. He is one of the reasons I stopped getting a daily paper.

Disaffected socialists don't suddenly get all miffy about immigration.
Gulp. I went canvassing in London in the 90s. A lot of people told me they were going to vote Labour, despite all the blacks moving into the area and taking all the jobs, houses etc. I suppose you could argue that they wren't socialists, but there was no denying that they were racists.

RandomNPC · 21/03/2015 15:22

There's no reason why Labour voters wouldn't be racists. Racism exists across the political spectrum.

RandomNPC · 21/03/2015 15:26

I used to read the Guardian daily for about 29 years, until a couple of years ago. Gobshites like Owen Jones was one reason; they do have a lot of shit 'hobby horse' columnists like Bidesha too. It's also ridiculously expensive too: over £1.50 a day when you get I for 30p?

RandomNPC · 21/03/2015 15:28
  • were one reason
LikeIcan · 21/03/2015 16:43

You read the Guardian everyday for 29 years?

Crikey.....you need a Wine - & I've made it a large one.

RandomNPC · 21/03/2015 16:56

Lol, perhaps not daily. I did buy it a lot though, even the European one when abroad

LikeIcan · 21/03/2015 17:02

That's dedication lol

I'm a Tory voting, Daily mail reading snob.

We'll get on great I'm sure.

RandomNPC · 21/03/2015 17:13

Two of my closest friends are 'Kippers.
I try not to talk about it.
