Threads I've read in the last half hour so....
I'm spending more than what a significant part of the UK earns in a year on a holiday
I'm voting Conservative
Owen Jones is a skid mark
I love UKIP immigration policy.

Us Socialists are unwelcome. AIBU? Or am I just reading the wrong bits?
(preparing to be told to feck off to Russia)

The holiday thread is a ridiculous example. Precisely one person out of one hundred posts was spending an average annual income on holidays. Are you pining for the good old days when rich people weren't allowed to post on MN? because I'm struggling to remember when that was.

WayfaringStranger · 17/03/2015 21:53

Slightly off topic but I always think the word 'despair' looks wrong.

ragged · 17/03/2015 22:00

I don't know who Owen Jones is.
Can't must interest in other people's holidays or spending.

Farage in for web chat would be fantastic!! I'm all for it lamb to the slaughter.

ARoomWithoutAView · 17/03/2015 22:00

Russia is hardly socialist these days.

Viviennemary · 17/03/2015 22:07

I must say I was [shocked] at what some people are spending on holidays. And handbags costing £900. Maybe it's time to tax the rich or hike VAT on luxuries. Help I'm becoming a socialist!

WyrdSmyth · 17/03/2015 22:09

Is there an official Mumsnet price limit for a family holiday then? I didn't get the memo Hmm

scallopsrgreat · 17/03/2015 22:13

Owen Jones is a misogynist. Like a lot of left wing men they are happy to spout everyone should be treated equally, human rights are v v important, blah blah blah...until it comes to women. That's why he's a 'skid mark'.

Farage has been on for a web chat a couple of years ago, ragged. He got slaughtered. As you can imagine.

Clarinet9 · 17/03/2015 22:13

I don't get green eyes on the holiday threads I am just a bit shocked that people have to spend that much on what is probably a pretty average holiday

HoneySwampDragonInMourning · 17/03/2015 22:13

The nice think about mn getting all a bit political is it gives the usual warring factions

Dog haters vs dog lovers
breast feeders vs Formula Feeders
People who think they are entitled to sit where they like on a bus vs Everyone else
Jam first vs Cream first

A chance to mix it up a bit and get to know each other against new common enemies.

So it's all good

ErrolTheDragon · 17/03/2015 22:22

YABU. Where else can I go to mourn Sir Terry, sympathise with other Parents with GCSE year kids, discuss The Archers, my preferred forms of exercise/eating, random feminist-type things, random religious arguments debates?

You're reading the wrong bits.

HoneySwampDragonInMourning · 17/03/2015 22:28

Is saying I Despair the posh pedanty way of being discusted and appauled?

whoopsbunny · 17/03/2015 22:32

Bloody hell - I liked Owen Jones because he seemed quite left wing & feministy. He tweeted on #InternationalMen'sDay ( Hmm ) "Also known as Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday".

Happy to be disillusioned on this.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/03/2015 22:33

Could be, honey. (and where else but MN can you find a couple of SadDragons ?)

HoneySwampDragonInMourning · 17/03/2015 22:36
Sad
ArcheryAnnie · 17/03/2015 22:40

I'm a socialist, and I'm also the one that called Owen Jones a skidmark. (A "bumptious little skidmark", if I remember right.)

Mind you, I see what you mean about the holiday thread.

Makes a pleasant change from some of the right on politically correct shouting down of other posters that can be found on here most days.

Why shouldn't people be allowed to hold different opinions? I'm sure you will find that yours change too as you age.

Live & let live and don't assist those who would like to do away with freedom of speech entirely.

butterfly2015 · 17/03/2015 23:01

Firstly I envy anyone going on holiday as we aren't and probably won't for a very long time.

Secondly I rarely find my way anywhere else because I can't even find the chat section on here. I'm still blindly fumbling about until I see something interesting I can read or comment on.

I have no clue who the skidmark is either.

I'm eating toast and marmite which is irrelevant but thought I'd see how many "marmite is disgusting" comments

ErrolTheDragon · 17/03/2015 23:04

marmite is quite nice on toast.

Bunnyjo · 17/03/2015 23:05

YABU

  1. People can spend what they like on holidays.
  2. At 2010 the Conservatives gained 7% more votes than Labour, therefore it is entirely plausible that there will be MNetters who are, shock horror, Conservative voters
  3. As others have said, Owen Jones is a misogynist. I, too, think he is a skid mark.
  4. Most of the UKIP threads I have read, it is clear that the overwhelming majority of posters are completely anti-UKIP thankfully

You are completely free to start your own left-wing socialist thread, just as right-wing people are free to start their own threads. Surely, as a socialist, you are in favour of this?

Ignores the ludicrous comparison of socialism with Russia

butterfly2015 · 17/03/2015 23:11

I like nutella on crumpets but I adore marmite.

And I'm the only person in this house who does. It's nice knowing that when I go to the cupboard it's going to still be the there unlike the bloody biscuits which everyone else nicks

cococandyfloss · 17/03/2015 23:12

Okay missing the point but can someone link the holiday thread please-I love reading about other people's holidays!

whoopsbunny · 17/03/2015 23:12

Owen Jones is the author of "Chavs, the demonisation of the working class" and seemed to me a good egg although I don't know him intimately

I haven't actually read "chavs" - but understand it to be "good"

V confused whoopsbunny now.

cococandyfloss · 17/03/2015 23:13

Found it-off to read and be jealous and dream of amazing holidays !

NoArmaniNoPunani · 17/03/2015 23:14

I'm not sure I believe the person who is spending 30k on a trip to south America
