to fear discontinuation of my favourite foods?

It all started with Ramen from Waitrose. It was delicious, DH & I loved it. Then it was discontinued. Then the chili and kidney bean soup (which admittedly sounds foul but did taste divine) - GONE. Tesco, what happened to chewable Rennie?! Then the Thai fishcakes. Tasty dishes, tragically abandoned by the heartless grocers.

The last straw was 2014's horrific re-formulation of M&S's tzatziki. Anyway, I am now living in dread regarding the M&S Hot and Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. It is oh so good. Medicine in a food carton but in a delicious, whole-tub-to-myself, chilli-tingle way. They're gonna pull it, aren't they?

M&S chicken tikka sandwiches with minty yoghurt dressing and lettuce...

When Gino ginelli ice cream disappeared in the 90s my childhood ended.

Koalafications · 13/03/2015 23:35

I came onto say Worcester sauce Twiglets and I can see that I am not alone in my mourning.

I emailed United Biscuits a few months back to see if they would be returning, sadly not.

Sad Sad Sad Sad

M&S Deltas.

M&S Crunchetti.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 14/03/2015 00:01

Frankie & Benny's used to do a cheese and tomato ravioli in a creamy sauce with loads of pine nuts. Tasted earthy and warm and creamy and amazing. First they took out the pine nuts, then they got rid of it altogether. I'm still sad about it ~10 years later.

I'm going to try to make a pasta dish like it this week.

I absolutely adore Loyd Grossman's Smoky Bacon Pasta Sauce. I presume it's still going but I can't get it here (and was convinced it was going to be discontinued for ages). Sad There are pretty much no decent pasta sauces here. I can't even get carbonara in a jar. There's a Dolmio white sauce for use in lasagne but I haven't really looked at what it is exactly, I just use cartons of mornay for that (which are no good for use as a creamy pasta sauce on their own, unless I add a hell of a lot of cheese and spices).

I used to like the Tell 'em Phil Sent You pizza at Deep Pan. Both now sadly defunct.

LollieLoves · 14/03/2015 02:04

Ruffles can be found in Poundshop??? Like all my Christmases come at once Grin

CallMeExhausted · 14/03/2015 02:23

I enjoy cooking/preparing my food, so as long as the base ingredients don't disappear, I am safe...

HOWEVER...

I seem to have an uncanny ability to find, buy and fall in love with styles of jeans that are subsequently discontinued - almost always right before I go to buy more. I am "curvy" thanks, genetics and the best jeans for me are ones with essentially a full size difference between the waist and hips. I have found four different manufacturers whose jeans have been discontinued before I was able to buy a second pair.

Grrrrr.....

KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/03/2015 07:10

Topshop Marthas . Cry , the best jeans around .

ilovesooty · 14/03/2015 07:29

I miss Heinz celery soup too. Also Aldi did an amazing chicken and asparagus soup that's been discontinued.

stardusty5 · 14/03/2015 07:38

Sainsburys chimmichurri dip. It was so delicious!

When they discontinued it, we moved onto an OK poor cousin dip, until they finished that too Confused

a2011x · 14/03/2015 09:26

Aldi's stuffed mushrooms - gone just like that. It's hurtful I know

Slongette · 14/03/2015 09:39

AddToBasket I had a quick panic when I saw your OP about the Tesco's Thai Fishcakes - I have an addiction to their Thai style prawn chilli and lemon grass fish cakes. OMG they are amazing.

Just checked their website and they are still available - they might make a suitable substitute? I serve with chips, salad and sweet chilli dipping sauce.

I'm getting them tonight!

ihavenonameonhere · 14/03/2015 09:42

Proper gold butter. Used to have it on toast at my Nans during the 80s. Nothing like it

operaha · 14/03/2015 09:49

I've tried to read the whole thread but I have to go.
So just need to add

FEASTWICH
still not over its disappearance 20 years later

please say someone remembers?

taxi4ballet · 14/03/2015 10:01

Terry's Chocolate Neapolitans. Sadly missed...

Feminine · 14/03/2015 10:32

peep l remember those drinking yogurts.

They used to be a treat, after a Saturday shop.

Along with a 'booty' bag sweet selection. :)

NotSayingImBatman · 14/03/2015 11:03

Those mourning McDonald's chocolate donuts, IKEA ones are exactly the same and only 30p a pop.

Revenant · 14/03/2015 11:12

I still miss the m&s broccoli cheese and tomato bake from the late 80s, it was amazing and I may well have to recreate it at home now thanks to this thread. Also the beef, rocket and parmesan baguette from Eat which is no more. And cheesy hula hoops!

AmazingDisgrace · 14/03/2015 11:14

MrsBennington I started a thread on the Sainsburys garlic cube thing! The new version is awful, I now have a box of crappy frozen desiccated garlic that looks like and tastes a bit cardboardy. It all sticks together in the shitty box too. Give us back our cubes Sainsburys you bastards.

AddToBasket · 14/03/2015 12:29

Florin - so glad someone else is buying the M&S Hot Spicy Noodle soup! We may need to form a soup movement.

Slongette - I am going to try those fishcakes today. Thanks for the tip off.
