to fear discontinuation of my favourite foods?

It all started with Ramen from Waitrose. It was delicious, DH & I loved it. Then it was discontinued. Then the chili and kidney bean soup (which admittedly sounds foul but did taste divine) - GONE. Tesco, what happened to chewable Rennie?! Then the Thai fishcakes. Tasty dishes, tragically abandoned by the heartless grocers.

The last straw was 2014's horrific re-formulation of M&S's tzatziki. Anyway, I am now living in dread regarding the M&S Hot and Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. It is oh so good. Medicine in a food carton but in a delicious, whole-tub-to-myself, chilli-tingle way. They're gonna pull it, aren't they?

My mam has had a gripe with M&S over this for as far back as I can remember . "as soon as you like something they change it "
RIP salmon and dill pasta salad , ham and Swiss cheese sandwich to name a few .

IStopped · 13/03/2015 18:05

Wanamama used to do a jar of sauce - it was available at tescos and sainsburys (?) - I think it was ginger and something else that would make any noodle dish or stir fry dish taste delicious. They don't do it anymore and it makes me very sad. Sad

FedUpWeight · 13/03/2015 18:06

Mumofthe Waitrose do some really nice honey bacon sausages, may not be quite the same but still very good!

FedUpWeight · 13/03/2015 18:08

Bikket Makro and amazon both sell Golden Fry Onion Gravy Powder. Makro sells it in massive tubs online and in the shop!

MeganChips · 13/03/2015 18:37

figginz Aldi do a pear and dark chocolate bar very similar to the Lindt one. Give it a try, Aldi chocolate is surprisingly good.

gaggiagirl · 13/03/2015 18:42

Mighty white bread
Mushroom and wine pasta'n'sauce

louwn · 13/03/2015 19:03

Megan pear and dark chocolate bar sounds amazing, I must check that out.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/03/2015 19:16

Oh yes, the M&S cheese and celery sandwich. It had great flavour. The current one is just insipid.

I remember the bacon and egg sandwiches too - delicious - and the ham and egg roll ones, really nice. All horrid now.

PoppyFleur · 13/03/2015 19:38

YANBU M&S are just shocking at discontinuing or 'improving' much loved food. The ham & egg roll used to be scrummy. I also remember the veggie Cumberland pie now discontinued but the one that saddens me the most is the chilli beef pizza they used to do, I loved it, now gone. Why M&S, why?????

gaggiagirl · 13/03/2015 21:11

Ah yes, the chili beef pizzas!

Allalonenow · 13/03/2015 22:01

YY to the M&S salmon and dill pasta salad and the ham and Swiss cheese sandwich. They also used to do a fab duck and hoi-sin salad wrap but no longer available in my local M&S.

They should have votes on their website to see which lines to bring back, even bring back favourites for say a month, it would generate loads of publicity, lots of it free, and be good for customer feel good factor too.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/03/2015 22:02

It was a cornbread base, wasn't it? With a little sachet of soured cream to put on when it was cooked?

MrsBennington · 13/03/2015 22:06

many years ago they stopped doing the Birdseye (?) curry crispy pancake (I will never get over this).
Also Sainsburys have changed their really convenient frozen garlic cubes into chopped garlic rubbish Which is not convenient at all (bitter)

ImTakingTheEssence · 13/03/2015 22:12

Cheetos haven't seem them in years. I remember a yogurt I used to eat as a child it had a toy in the middle and a sprinkle pot that detached that you could shake on top. I loved them yoghurts.

bayrans · 13/03/2015 22:15

Worcestershire sauce twiglets.
Especially the odd really flavoursome bag that used to strip the lining of your mouth.
Oh I could eat some now.....

FedUpWeight · 13/03/2015 22:39

ImTaking I remember those yoghurts, but for the life of me can't remember what they were called

esiotrot2015 · 13/03/2015 22:43

They used to do a Pringles style tube of different nuts & Bombay mix
Was lush
I mourn it Smile

esiotrot2015 · 13/03/2015 22:44

Oh god yes to m & s salmon & dill salad
Plus they did a couscous & pepper wrap they no longer do Hmm

motleymop · 13/03/2015 22:46

You can still get chocolate rich tea biscuits but they're Cadbury and they are not easy to find.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/03/2015 22:51

YY to Worcester sauce twiglets but they were like a laxative on me ! Still ate them though
Can still get Cheetos , they sell them in Asda.
M&S used to make something called minced beef roll - like mince pie filling in a long roll of pastry. I craved it when pregnant with hyperemesis and cried when I couldn't find it Blush

SpringBreaker · 13/03/2015 22:55

Waitrose and sainsburys do that long life brunch thing in foil packs.

I miss Heinz celery soup and also toast toppers.

The doner Kebab pot noodle was surprisingly lovely too.

Also liked tesco pork and black pudding sausages and miss those.

cleoismycat · 13/03/2015 22:59

Sainsburys cheese buttons

MistyMeena · 13/03/2015 23:00

I mourn the loss of St Ivel chocolate yoghurts (about 35 years and counting) also M&S honey & mustard chicken pasta salad.

I fear the discontinuation of Doritos chilli flavour and Dime bars.

librarypictures · 13/03/2015 23:09

Another vote for M & S Cheese and Celery Sandwiches.

Also loved Starbucks low fat Ginger Muffins - gone, at least around here anyway.

And (whispers) cheese and tomato Pot Noodles last seen in late 80s / early 90s.

Sexyhouseslippers · 13/03/2015 23:11

Kitkat senses were lovely, walkers use to do really nice flavoured crisps but they always disappeared.
