To wonder what perks people get?

I was told earlier that a couple I know were given money from the company he works for which was specifically to be used on a meal out as a reward. I was a bit shocked when I was told how much (I'm quite a modest wage earner, and quite frankly would be lucky to get a cup of tea and a biscuit out of my employer) and also this is not his first reward either. Just a bit curious what other perks people get really?

I'm a nurse. I can't think of anything to be honestSad

gobbin · 13/03/2015 20:03

I get to push to the front of the dinner queue. Wow, go me. Most day it's because I'm either running an extra curricular activity so need a quick turnaround or am going back to my office to do paperwork. You'd be surprised at how many kids have the cheek to roll their eyes at staff 'pushing in'.

Gartenzwerg · 13/03/2015 20:04

Free tea and coffee. Me and my Employer each pay 2.5% of salary for share purchases. I stay in hotels a lot so get the hotel loyalty rewards and free nights. Employer pays in 10% of my salary as pension contributions. 30 days holiday. Private medical. Life insurance. I am very appreciative.

MerdeAlor · 13/03/2015 20:14

I'm a teacher, so
Pension
Jump the queue in the canteen
Free hot water for my tea bags
Shower
Use of weights room
Free on site parking
All the red biros I could possibly want, though they're very tight with Post-it notes for some odd reason.

Nonie241419 · 13/03/2015 20:31

Nothing, although I do use work pens at home. I'm a primary teacher and my job has reverse benefits. I spend a lot of my money each year on books/equipment for lessons and treats for the children.

cherrylola · 13/03/2015 20:39

I occasionally get travel and entrance cost covered so I can research events for my job (it's essential work, but I still see it as a perk as I won't often be able to find the cash myself).
My DP (and me by proxy) gets £100 a month towards childcare. It's a massive massive perk of his job and very much appreciated! His hours of work are utterly shit tho, so this is the silver lining Smile

pudding25 · 13/03/2015 20:49

Another teacher here. Once a year, we get some sandwiches for lunch on one of the Insets.

I also accidentally took a pencil home and never took it back to school. Not sure if that counts though...

UnikittyInHerBusinessSuit · 13/03/2015 20:49

Tea, coffee, fruit
Sandwiches bought in for lunch time meetings and scarfing the left overs from other people's external meetings
Dental & medical
Xmas party and occasional funded lunch out to greet new staff or say farewell to old ones
Annual Bonus normally around 10% of salary
Decent death in service/pension
Miscellaneous small but cool freebies from service providers at industry events (bags, stationery, sweets, that kind of thing)

Previous job was more high profile and had some amazing perks but I couldn't sustain the travelling hours required.

spancake · 13/03/2015 20:50

Well they let me use the fridge and the kettle.I take in my own tea coffee and milk, no free parking either.

HairyOrk · 13/03/2015 23:04

I used to work for Lush and they gave everyone a big box full of all the new products at Christmas time.
It was awesome

SwirlyThingAlert · 13/03/2015 23:37

I'm a SAHM now, but Christmas used to see a few hundred pounds bonus on the December wage packet on top of your normal take home salary! Smile

I also get to start when I like, finish when I like, take breaks when I like and do my job from home. as I work for my DH

That's about it.

StarOnTheTree · 14/03/2015 00:48

About 6 holidays a year, well working holidays really but it's a bit of work and lots of fun and I get to take the DC with me too, mostly in the UK but sometimes overseas Smile

The rest of the time I work from home, doing whatever hours I choose. I love my job!

Strokethefurrywall · 14/03/2015 01:13

Don't pay tax so that's a big bonus (live offshore)

  • Full medical insurance for whole family
  • 10-12% bonus
  • quarterly bonus
  • gifts on random "celebrate workers" days
  • quarterly piss ups
  • tea/coffee etc
  • free lunch and learns with full lunch
  • course/degrees etc paid for by the firm
  • 20 days vacation a year increasing by one each year to a max of 25
  • christmas party has amazing giveaways, first year I won round trip travel voucher with a local airline, 2013 I won a couples massage at the ritz Carlton, $50 movie theatre vouchers and last year won another vacation day.

I love my job and the firm I work for. When I learned my brother was terminally ill, my bosses paid for me to fly back to UK to be with him and when he finally passed away a few months later they extended my leave to 5 weeks.

When I was back at work, a new boss I was working for had won two free tickets to NYC and felt that We could do with a holiday. So he gave the tickets to me.

Kindness like the final examples above are the reasons I love where I work.

MillieV · 14/03/2015 01:41

Wow, strokethefurrywall.
That sounds like a great company. Which industry?

RedButtonhole · 14/03/2015 01:50

I volunteer and get tea/coffee in the morning and free lunch.

I also get free public transport as a student but I can't use it as it doesn't get me to college/home on time to pick up my son so I need to drive.

catsandstuff · 14/03/2015 02:00

marshaF · 14/03/2015 03:26

In my previous job, we had annual all expenses paid short break - skiing usually. Lots of dinners and drinks out, a lavish party at Christmas and a summer ball, plus a generous bonus annually. Still, they expected their pound of flesh in return Confused
Current job, free tea, coffee and milk, and that's about it!
