To wonder what perks people get?

I was told earlier that a couple I know were given money from the company he works for which was specifically to be used on a meal out as a reward. I was a bit shocked when I was told how much (I'm quite a modest wage earner, and quite frankly would be lucky to get a cup of tea and a biscuit out of my employer) and also this is not his first reward either. Just a bit curious what other perks people get really?

Perks - free tea and coffee basic but thankfully not from a machine! - childcare vouchers which are a bit of a rip off we ended up buying loads in November and not being able to use them - other so called perks are really advertising for the provider for example cards for money off at a restaurant chain
Rewards - various depending on what the reward is for. This is not the same as a 'perk'. You have to be the bosses best mate earn them. Amazon vouchers, small amount of cash.

Holidays - usually first/business class but also private jets and wonderful accommodation, fewer working hours but extra pay.

Lovely company cars (and a couple of wrecks!)

Very nice Christmas/birthday presents and bonus'

Gym membership to some very nice and expensive gyms - slumming it a bit with David Lloyd at the moment!

Accommodation provided from 3 bed cottages to 1 bed flat but all very nice.

And the best bit - lots of cuddles and kisses (from the kids I look/looked after, not from my employers!!)

I'm a nanny.

NHS here. We get a pension. And free slightly used AA batteries from 24 monitors, as many as we want. They get changed every day no matter what to avoid any errors and possibly running dry, which could be fatal.

moomoomummy · 15/03/2015 11:23

In 22 years of work I have had one electric toothbrush, a few samples of toothpaste, pens and mints.

windchime · 15/03/2015 11:47

All the bandages and micropore tape which find themselves in my pockets at the end of the shift Confused

Stinkersmum · 15/03/2015 12:15

In KSA, so perks for DH are pretty good - paid for accommodation, full private health care that covers dental and maternity. 4 return flights a year. Company car fully funded. Contribution toward school fees. 18% bonus. All on top of a 6 figure tax free salary. But I have to say, sometimes I'd rather be potless and back in the uk. Can't wait to move back to civilisation.

labelwriter · 15/03/2015 12:48

Mine is rather nice, we get a really nice Christmas present from the partners, we recently got given £200 liberty vouchers which came directly from the managing partner. Private health for me and my family, 5 star hotel and flight for Christmas party, 12% pension / non contributory. 10% bonus. They are a lovely company to work for, so much better so because the last firm I worked for were f'ing hideous to me.

girliefriend · 15/03/2015 12:53

I work for the NHS I think the annual leave is quite good as is the sick leave, there are no other perks!!

Linskibinski · 15/03/2015 13:48

I get no perks whatsoever. But I do get free cold water. Woo! Go me!

Florin · 15/03/2015 16:32

I worked for a yacht charter company. We got a free yacht charter every year to a destination of our choice. My husband and I love sailing so it was fab. If you couldn't sail you either got lessons or a skipper. I got my flights free too.
Now a sahm Mum so no perks now.
Husband gets free ipad, discounted apple products, control of his own time so he can come to sons hospital appointments without taking holiday. Normal stuff such as health insurance for the whole family etc.

mygrandchildrenrock · 15/03/2015 16:59

free unlimited tea & coffee, lap top, use of photocopier, uniform coat, car parking. Wine & soft drinks at the Christmas meal out. Very good holiday package, sick pay and pension although that won't change in my working life time I expect it will in years to come.

mygrandchildrenrock · 15/03/2015 17:21

Oh I forgot, free eye tests too and paid time off work for routine medical appointments.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/03/2015 19:59

Another teacher, so other than holidays/pension, naff all. We bring our own tea/coffee/pens and the canteen's run by an external provider so not at all cheap.

Sapat · 15/03/2015 20:53

I am a civil servant and we get nothing. No tea no coffee no milk no Xmas do... We all work overtime but don't get paid.

Casperthefriendlyspook · 15/03/2015 21:25

Fish - have to say I don't recognise that representation of Higher Education. :(
I supply own tea/coffee/milk, but there is a hot/cold water machine. Other than that, it's just nice colleagues. We pay for parking, etc., and only xmas perks we get are if the boss pays for it herself - as is the same with my team if I put my hand in my pocket.
I can get reduced fees for courses the Uni offers, but as I already have my PhD, I'm not feeling the need for more study at present!
Just as well I enjoy what I do! :)

lostinegypt · 15/03/2015 21:31

Medical, gym, accommodation allowance, transport to work, travel allowance to be spent how I want eg holiday flights, free education for my children at a private school.

LaurieMarlow · 15/03/2015 22:02

Realised how lucky I am reading through this thread Blush

Unlimited snacks (fruit, nuts, chocolate, bread, cereal) as well as tea/coffee from fancy machine. Cooked breakfast once a week. Complimentary lunches about once a fortnight. Lavish Christmas 'do' and about 6/7 additional paid for nights out across the year. Free bar every Friday after work. Annual company conference abroad, all flights, accommodation, food, alcohol, excursions paid for.

Annual bonus (15%+ of salary), cash present at christmas, vouchers for birthday. Pension, private healthcare, gym membership. Reflexology, yoga, massage, circuit training provided on site. iPhone & Macbook provided for work & personal use.

Travel is very much part of the job (so not really a perk exactly) but all business class, luxury accommodation and generous expenses for food/drink/entertainment.

Training budget to spend as you will (within reason), time off for 'culture' days, 1 month sabbatical after 5 years service, 6 months after 10 years.

pombearsforbrunch · 16/03/2015 07:26

Holy cow Laurie! What do you do?

BiddyPop · 16/03/2015 09:24

We have some discounts available through union membership.

There is one chain of stores, where corporate gifts are sometimes bought, that has given a 10% discount to staff, but it's not widely publicized internally.

We have a social club that we pay into every paycheque that organizes the Christmas party, so members of the social club get half price tickets to the event.

Um, that's about it.

No bonuses, no hampers, nothing like that.

BiddyPop · 16/03/2015 09:26

And we all buy our own tea/coffee - either in the canteen/local coffee shops or bring in teabags/coffee grounds and use a kettle (that office colleagues have bought in the dim and distant past - I've been involved in paying to replace a few over the years) - though I suppose that counts as free electricity....

Clarinet9 · 16/03/2015 09:31

Normal stuff such as health insurance for the whole family etc.

Not in my world!!

OK I haven't read the whole thread but where are all the civil servants with their 5 years maternity leave, free foreign trips for Uncle Tom Cobbley and all, free accommodation, free school fees.........

I know at least 3 people who are currently having their school fees paid by the government for no obvious reason other than their job title, in fact certainly 2 have organised their work to get fees paid and would not be paying their own fees!

catsandstuff · 16/03/2015 09:46

I bet Laurie works in advertising! I know somebody at an agency in London with very similar perks.

sPJPPp · 16/03/2015 09:51

I thought advertising as an industry had been suffering? I knew someone that worked in it and they basically had a free cafe on site, he used to regularly work stupid long hours and have several can of red bull and crisps for breakfast and this was standard. He quit the industry and now teaches it, but he did know several people that died quite young. But I'm bitter and he was my greedy and manipulative ex.

LaurieMarlow · 16/03/2015 09:58

Not quite advertising, but similar. My company is ridiculously generous. When I first moved here (from much more tight fisted corporate employer) I couldn't quite believe it. However, they do work us very hard.

sPJPPp, really depends on the company. Some are doing really well, others struggling.
