To wonder what perks people get?

I was told earlier that a couple I know were given money from the company he works for which was specifically to be used on a meal out as a reward. I was a bit shocked when I was told how much (I'm quite a modest wage earner, and quite frankly would be lucky to get a cup of tea and a biscuit out of my employer) and also this is not his first reward either. Just a bit curious what other perks people get really?

I've always had to pay for tea and coffee wherever I've worked.

Most places I have worked have had generous maternity pay and holiday allowance, good pension scheme, things like childcare vouchers and season ticket loans, and cycle to work scheme, subsidised staff restaurant and gym, lots of training opportunities, occupational health service, on-site childcare with staff discount (if you can get a place). And a good level of job security as well, which probably makes up a bit for the lack of Christmas bonus or company car! Well, that's what I tell myself anyway.

Tea and coffee but not the expensive type I like so I bring my own.

Very complicated access to various benefits and discounts but so un-user friendly that I can't be bothered to find out how it works.

Staff discount (retail).

£4 allowance for annual party Grin.

Really lucky with the company I work for. We get free TV, phone and broadband package (mine is equivalent to about £90 per month) free fruit, water, tea and coffee at work, couple of big parties during the year, choice ofChristmas gift, subsidised canteen. Would be nice to work for one of these companies giving free foreign travel out though! Wink

Oh and free private health and dental, subsidised parking in a city centre, share and saving schemes, tons of discount vouchers also.

My perks are only average for my sector but I appreciate them non the less:

On site gym
Espresso machines, coffee and bottled water
25% bonus annually (performance related)
Pension
Death in service benefit
BUPA and dental plan
Christmas presents for employees children
Christmas hamper
Overseas conferences 2-3 times per year
Online portal of employee discounts and offers

4 quid!
that's hysterical do you get to keep the change?

This thread got me thinking I have a friend who for the last 7 years has not spent a penny on holiday accommodation (and she travels away every school holiday) she has family with holiday houses by the beach, near a ski resort you name it, that must make a massive difference to the family budget (plus of course the fact that her husband works for a bank so they get a massively discounted mortgage!!)

Nothing!!! I'm a nurse working for a charity so definitely (and quite rightly) no money for perks. I'll still get an NHS pension but that's not as great as it used to be. We pay into a kitty for tea, coffee, biscuits etc. but occasionally get biscuits or chocolates from patients.

Dh gets free home broadband, Christmas night out paid for, a great Sharesave scheme and has had private physio arranged when he hurt his back.

Hang on I forgot one of my perks....a free flu jab each year!!

welcometouniversallychallenged · 21/03/2015 15:06

Free access to all our shows and any shows being put on by other theatre companies in our theatre. Tickets and accommodation for Edinburgh Fringe. Not too shabby really. Plus working with an amazingly funny, kind and creative bunch of people, who genuinely appreciate the work I do. Which is a luxury in itself.

Peregrin · 21/03/2015 15:45

Nothing whatever. We all work overtime without that being compensated, too, except for the theoretical chance of up two days' recuperation a month. My personal record was over 70 hours of unpaid overtime in a month.

Peregrin · 21/03/2015 15:47

Just to add, thankfully I do enjoy my job!

RandomNPC · 21/03/2015 15:47
