To wonder what perks people get?

I was told earlier that a couple I know were given money from the company he works for which was specifically to be used on a meal out as a reward. I was a bit shocked when I was told how much (I'm quite a modest wage earner, and quite frankly would be lucky to get a cup of tea and a biscuit out of my employer) and also this is not his first reward either. Just a bit curious what other perks people get really?

They give us an additional days holiday over Christmas.
Lots of jollies (never had that before)
Free tea and coffee

Still a fairly shit job though (but the pay is fantastic, so I stay Grin)

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 12/03/2015 14:37

I'm self employed and usually work from home so I get the perks of fitting in the school runs, putting the washing on, cooking dinner, running errands and taking in parcels all day.

But when I'm on site with a client I get all the tea/coffee/mineral water/juice I can drink brought to me by a man in a waistcoat, all the breakfast pastries I can eat and often sandwiches and crisps too. I also get my travel paid and have an obscene hourly rate.

I bloody love my job and I'm fantastically lucky.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 12/03/2015 14:41

Oh and I get access to all the special staff offers from Dh's work like cut price electricals, employee pricing on Apple products. Wow points too whatever the fuck they may be I have £2.28 worth of those Grin

And I spend Dh's bonus which is about 15%

Shockers · 12/03/2015 14:41

Feck all... in fact I take stuff from home/buy stuff to use at work. I do loads of unpaid hours and have to pay for tea and coffee.

Can anybody guess where I work?

JeanneTheRabidFeminist · 12/03/2015 14:42

Ok, mine are completely bonkers, but they amuse me. I get:

  • access to the wine cellar (and I have been encouraged to consult with the butler should I wish to purchase said wine. Which I doubt my salary will allow me to do).
  • seats at the advent procession in the chapel. I can put my name in the ballot to go to a Christmas carol service.
  • I can walk on the grass.
  • I get free lunch twice a week

For my real job I just get free tea and coffee! Grin

turkeyboots · 12/03/2015 14:42

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 12/03/2015 14:42

School Shockers

JeanneTheRabidFeminist · 12/03/2015 14:44

Oh, and we get free wine with the fortnightly meeting.

I think my work has a booze problem. Smile

Shockers · 12/03/2015 14:44

That didn't take long!Grin

KittensOnAPlane · 12/03/2015 14:46

Teacher - shockers?

orangepudding · 12/03/2015 14:48

Today I was in JL when I heard a tannoy announcement stating the partners were getting an 11% bonus, I think its an impressive perk.

Totality22 · 12/03/2015 14:51

Performance related bonus (department not me personally). This year was £3k.

Private healthcare and pension.

Xmas do, which I haven't attended in years as I've been pregnant or on ML.

JassyRadlett · 12/03/2015 14:54

How sad is it that I'm envious of all the free tea and coffee?

smugmumofboys · 12/03/2015 14:56

Nothing at all.

Another teacher.

mariamin · 12/03/2015 14:57

I guess a perk for teachers is the pension scheme

steff13 · 12/03/2015 14:58

I have a good job, but I don't get perks per se, my job has good benefits:

An above-average wage
Annual salary increase
I work from home
Excellent health, dental, vision, and life insurance
6 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks of sick time and 4 personal days per year
Pension
Off on all federal holidays

mrssnodge · 12/03/2015 14:58

Im also jealous of the free tea & coffee,we have to bring in our own & my boss even pinches tea bags from me!

GoooRooo · 12/03/2015 15:02

Nothing. I'm self-employed.

Might give myself a Christmas bonus this year Grin

BrianButterfield · 12/03/2015 15:02

I'd love free tea and coffee too! We occasionally get some before INSET but it's the worst kind of swill. Still drink it though!

Er...racking my brain honestly...I do have a work iPad which is cool. But it's work's and in the biggest protective case ever!

MiddleAgedandConfused · 12/03/2015 15:03

zippyandbungle - that's so funny - me too! not wearing the fingerless gloves today, only the dressing gown over my clothes. Looking forward to spring.

SpecificOcean · 12/03/2015 15:04

All school holidays off and paid holiday pay, free training.

DH- Summer bonus every year, private family healthcare, good holiday allowance, family events, death in service benefit, brilliant pension, loads of Christmas presents from company and suppliers, free Christmas party and meals, lots of meals out with clients, extra holidays after so many years, at each half and full decade of work a party and big present- last one was high street vouchers, special presentations/buffets/gifts for new ideas, fab pay structure, lots of chances for promotions available, annual and performance pay rises over the year.

insecurityissue · 12/03/2015 15:07

My last work place we had to pay for pur tea/coffee/water, were lucky to get paid on time, and even luckier if it was the full amount due. But we did get the choice of a free alcoholic drink at the xmas meal nothing for the teetotallers like myself the rest of the meal was paid for by ourselves (and stupidly timed so it was 3 days before payday) Hmm

DH doesn't really get perks, but has a generous boss (company owner). When we travelled to see some family, he called and told us to suggested we (including the extended family) go to a particular restaraunt, quite on the expensive side. I was clutching my pearls as we went in. At the end, asked for the bill (whilst clasping pearls frantically) and turned out the entire meal, drinks and all had been paid for, courtesy of aforementioned boss (who it transpires is good ole friends with restaraunt owner) Grin

ampersandand · 12/03/2015 15:15

We get our funeral paid for if we die whilst employed with them. Only found that out when one of our nurses died unexpectedly.

A bonus of £250 at 3,5 and 10 years service (which is taxed).

A free lunch if you work a 12 hour shift.

Free teas and coffees.

StrawberryCheese · 12/03/2015 15:36

Nothing on a regular basis. We provide our own tea and milk and pay for our own xmas do. The MD did leave a packet of Love Heart sweets on our desks on Valentines Day Hmm oh and I got a free Haggis once.

MyMummy2 · 12/03/2015 15:39

I used to work on the railway but kept my free travel when I took EVR - I am now classed as retired! It also covers my OH, DD & DS until they are 16.

In my present job we get free tea & coffee, occasional meal about 10 days off over christmas, 20 days annual leave.
