To wonder what perks people get?

I was told earlier that a couple I know were given money from the company he works for which was specifically to be used on a meal out as a reward. I was a bit shocked when I was told how much (I'm quite a modest wage earner, and quite frankly would be lucky to get a cup of tea and a biscuit out of my employer) and also this is not his first reward either. Just a bit curious what other perks people get really?

free tea+coffee, annual dinner, foreign travel.
DH used to get free Xmas meal + Xmas hamper.

lampygirl · 12/03/2015 14:12

I had a bonus month's salary once for a weeks work. Boss was going on holiday and the other guy who worked in our studio quit out of the blue. I had 7 working days on my own and had to pick up 3 people's projects. I actually enjoyed it though it was too much to do full time at 15 hours a day plus most days.

Other than that and xmas bonuses we get free use of space/tools/equipment/van hire as long as we arent taking the piss.

Loopylala7 · 12/03/2015 14:12

An actual holiday? wow, nice

Callofthewild · 12/03/2015 14:16

Tea and coffee, breakfast, fresh fruit, dried fruit for snacks and if you're really lucky a trip to Australia on a "finding yourself" sort of course. Depending on where you're based you also get your home to work travel expenses paid.

gotredonyou · 12/03/2015 14:16

Free tea/coffee/milk/water, annual bonus, Christmas meal out, Christmas presents from boss, the odd fish & chip day..

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 12/03/2015 14:17

Lunch, as much tea and coffee as I want, free use of gym / pool / sauna. Free haircuts with a trainee on a specific day of the week. Four free nights at UK hotels a year (I work for the brand), significan discount on the Hotel brand rates worldwide for me, my OH and our parents. Quite a good discount for any other family members and friends. Christmas party. £50 bonus for employee of the month, £200 for employee of the year.

Sgtmajormummy · 12/03/2015 14:17

Free photocopies, use of the computer, tea and coffee, training seminars, working equipment bought if you can justify it and it stays on the premises, petrol and wear and tear if you drive for the company. That's pretty normal, isn't it?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 12/03/2015 14:18

Oh and one day a month is like a "perk" day - so managenent nay wash everyones cars, a tuck shop trolley goes around (free), we go for afternoon tea in one of the function roosm etc.

elfofftheshelf · 12/03/2015 14:22

Free refreshments (tea. coffee water etc), fresh fruit.

6 social events per year (incl. xmas party, summer party, quiz nights etc - all with food / refreshments).

Everyone is eligible to participate in annual bonus scheme.

Managers are also provided with a budget that allows them to recognise individuals who have gone above and beyond (e.g. special projects, long hours etc) with rewards such as a nice meal out with partner (max £120), theatre tickets etc etc.

I should add that no-one is entitled to overtime and most do work longer than their contractual hours.

That's the only thing I can think of in 15 years, I'm amazed by what some of you get Smile think I'm in the wrong job!

zippyandbungle · 12/03/2015 14:31

l'm self employed and work from home, I won't even allow the heating on unless it's really freezing, there's nothing wrong in working in your dressing gown and fingerless gloves.

jennystaffs81 · 12/03/2015 14:32

Free railways travel with the company my husband works with, and 75% off all other train company's fares. This covers me as well, and our children till they are 16 or 19 in FTE.

I used to get a free pair of specs with my old job lol.

Libitina · 12/03/2015 14:33

Free, instant access to consultant surgeons (I'm a scrub nurse). Just yesterday I asked one about a mole I was concerned about and should I see my GP, luckily they said it was fine.

Lilymaid · 12/03/2015 14:34

BUPA, free tea and a variety of other drinks at work. £250 in vouchers at Christmas (think that is the maximum benefit that is not taxable). Frequent occasions to drink champagne.

Magmatic80 · 12/03/2015 14:35

I don't get overtime as I am classed as management, although I get paid a lot better than those who do get overtime. Still a lot less than my role in other industries though!

High job satisfaction Smile

thatstoast · 12/03/2015 14:36

Free parking, that's a definite perk. Free Microsoft office for personal devices. Some random staff offers, 20% off this and that.

DH gets free drinks during work, monthly bonus, Xmas hamper, gift vouchers usually every quarter, day off for his birthday, Xmas shopping day. Lots of good stuff.

fluffygreentail · 12/03/2015 14:36

Im sahp but when I did work it was only childcare voucher scheme, free tea/coffee and one free staff meal at xmas.

DH gets a case of wine every xmas and cash bonus (nasty tax comes off naturally), free travel to work and subsidised staff canteen. They have a summer and xmas team meal out paid by company and leaving do's for moving to a new division or company also paid. He works for a huge company though.
