To wonder what perks people get?

I was told earlier that a couple I know were given money from the company he works for which was specifically to be used on a meal out as a reward. I was a bit shocked when I was told how much (I'm quite a modest wage earner, and quite frankly would be lucky to get a cup of tea and a biscuit out of my employer) and also this is not his first reward either. Just a bit curious what other perks people get really?

Bonus (up to 40%), private healthcare, free legal advice, free dental care, free optical care for my household, tea / coffee / hot choc, Christmas Party + 3 Social Events per year. Death in service, season ticket loan interest free, decent pension.

I am exceptionally fortunate.

GingerCuddleMonster · 12/03/2015 15:41

free tea and coffee, really cheap holidays abroad, free drinks at Christmas party.

ghostyslovesheep · 12/03/2015 15:42

teacher54321 · 12/03/2015 15:45

In my old job I got hugely subsidised accommodation (boarding school living in on site) with no council tax or other bills apart from a peppercorn rent and a token amount for utilities. I also got three meals a day free if I wanted them, and unlimited tea, coffee and soft drinks. Could use all the facilities whenever we wanted (including gym and swimming pool). Generally a good deal! Pay was rubbish though I calculated I got about 12 grand a year in living expenses. Currently I get free tea and coffee and two free lunches.

Scotchmincepie · 12/03/2015 15:45

1/2 a day's Christmas shopping, up until last year when that was taken from us.

A day's 'free' holiday at Christmas.

Really good pension, until that's taken from us too!

Pyjamaface · 12/03/2015 15:46

Free parking - which would be great if it was in the middle of a city instead of a village Grin

£20 at xmas

We can also drink at work, as long as we don't get so pissed we can't do the job Grin

Mostlyjustaluker · 12/03/2015 15:47

A teacher. I steal things from home for work. We get the occasional cuppa, about three per year. We used to get a bottle of water before parents evenings but there is no money for that now.

darlingfascistbullyboy · 12/03/2015 15:47

dental insurance & (crappy) medical insurance, Christmas do & present, free food & drink fairly regularly (couple of times a month?) for company meetings/deployments/just because they feel like it, occasional training, 20% off at Laithwaites & the most flexible working imaginable (worth a fortune).

That's dh. I get a £10 Christmas bonus for carer's allowance!

LurkingHusband · 12/03/2015 15:51

Many years ago, I visited a client in Frankfurt. I was given a tour of the office (about 40 employees). One floor had a fully equipped gym they could use for free. As my ghast was being flabbered, my host commented it was a shame I had come on a Tuesday, as Wednesday they had a masseur pop in for any staff that wanted a massage. Free of course.

The canteen had a fridge stocked with beer and wine Shock.

QueenofallIsee · 12/03/2015 15:51

Free tea and coffee, subsidized canteen
flexible benefits that amount to about 2k per year (you choose what to spend your benefit package on so I buy extra holiday, dental care, waitrose vouchers and so on, also have childcare vouchers available and what not)
mobile phone
40% staff discount on selected company products
corporate discount on various companies (20% off Thorntons, 40% off theme park entry, White Company 10% off etc, some codes for online shopping etc)
Points system that are used to claim rewards i.e. you do a job well, your manager can reward you with points. I converted mine most recently into House of Fraser vouchers but there are loads of options
Shares as part of bonus scheme - great when the company is doing well

squoosh · 12/03/2015 15:53

5 duvet days a year on top of A/L

manicinsomniac · 12/03/2015 15:59

You're not in the wrong job, mrsmiles , you're in the wrong sector.

As a teacher, I get:
85% off school fees
Subsidised accommodation
Council tax
Breakfast, lunch , dinner, snacks and drinks
Pay for absence such as sick relatives and unavoidable incidents
Christmas party

CMOTDibbler · 12/03/2015 16:00

In the UK office, free vending machine drinks, slightly cheaper than if you bought it elsewhere 'bistro'.

All UK employees get 2 bottles of wine at Christmas, and we get a small annual bonus.

There is a great performance reward scheme, but some managers use it loads, and some like my boss don't ever.

londonrach · 12/03/2015 16:01

Nhs staff here. I get cold water free from the tap via a machine thats it!!! Dont drink coffe tea etc but theres a kitty if you do so not free. If we lucky a patient might bring in a box of biscuits or sweets and they get put in office for all the share. Those patients are known and thanked! Mind you whilst working doing doms i used to get free apples in september from patients. Not allowed to accept anything so asked boss who laughed and said apples dont count. I do love eve pudding! Yum

BernardBlack · 12/03/2015 16:03

Erm...nope, can't think of anything. Unless you count free access to counselling via occy health when you get battered by a patient. And all the bread you can filch for toast as long as you don't get caught...

Vastra · 12/03/2015 16:18

Free parking mostly. There are more employees than spaces, so it's a lottery. In reality I probably get a space 90% of the time so it is pretty good odds.
Potential for an annual bonus of up to 10% of salary depending on various factors, it has been between 0 and 8.5% since I've been there.
Salary sacrifice to invest in shares at reduced price.

Brummiegirl15 · 12/03/2015 16:19

Free lunch, free parking, free tea & coffee. Mobile phone, lap top, pension, healthcare, childcare vouchers, time off in lieu for working extra hours, 5 weeks holiday, 6 months full sick pay. Occupational health therapist, 6 months sabbatical after 2 years service (unpaid though), death in service payment of 4 x salary

I've also been off sick and work are paying for my counselling for me.

I'm well aware that I am incredibly lucky

kewtogetin · 12/03/2015 16:23

Well I'm a SAHM so my perks are zilch but DH has a private healthcare plan (we're all included too) quarterly bonuses, weekend away at Christmas and one in the summer, can work from home when he bloody well feels like it and (due to the nature of his occupation) as many free Jo Malone products/joules clothing/perfumes and toiletries as you can shake a stick at Smile

muminhants · 12/03/2015 16:26

Private healthcare, pension scheme (as long as I contribute something to it too), various discounts eg gym membership and the very cheap Microsoft Office (less than £10 for the full version).

A small bonus and a sharesave scheme.

There is free tea and coffee in the office (I am home-based) and a Christmas party. And occasional office drinks but as I am home-based I tend to miss both the Xmas party and the drinks.

givemushypeasachance · 12/03/2015 16:35

Civil service here - if we're lucky there's sachets of instant coffee and teabags in the meeting rooms if we're on a training day or having a meeting with external folk. When I started there were little packets of biscuits too, but not any more! I think there were little packs of Haribo on the table last time we had a big cross-organisation meeting, I was quite chuffed with that.

We provide own tea & coffee for day-to-day, pay for own team Christmas do's and all chip in £1 plus the managers pay a bit more to have a buffet in the office on the last Friday. We don't have "away days" or anything like that these days - most meetings happen via web seminar links and training happens online or in the office to cut costs.

We have an instant recognition scheme where if you do something really good and are performing at a high level you can get nominated to get £50 of shopping vouchers, but how often that gets used depends on your managers. In my department maybe one or two people a year get an award. My manager does give us a Christmas card and her manager bought us all a drink down the pub last year... some of the posts from people who get bonuses and paid leave and snacks in the office just sound like another world!

Scuttlebutter · 12/03/2015 16:37

I'm self employed and the best bit is that my office is usually filled by a posse of amazingly gorgeous greyhounds. I love the fact that my time is broadly my own to schedule. I also get to meet lots of our customer's hounds and have wonderful hound leans and snuggles, and to help various sighthound rescues. You can't put a price on that sort of satisfaction.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 12/03/2015 16:42

Sod all.

I tell a lie, one easter all the staff received a £1 easter egg (each, not to share).

I'm an HCA, health care assistant.

HelloDoris · 12/03/2015 16:57

Tea and coffee, but I only drink green and boss won't subsidise it.

10% off the products we sell except for honey, I'm allowed to take as much as I want.

Apparently we get fruit from the farm in season..

Erm.. Apart from that nothing much else, free Christmas meal?!?

Free breakfast once a week.

Boss however is very generous with expenses and will pay for most things you as him too (if work related).

Husband gets all sorts.. Healthcare, travel card subsidy, free tickets to events..
