To wonder what perks people get?

I was told earlier that a couple I know were given money from the company he works for which was specifically to be used on a meal out as a reward. I was a bit shocked when I was told how much (I'm quite a modest wage earner, and quite frankly would be lucky to get a cup of tea and a biscuit out of my employer) and also this is not his first reward either. Just a bit curious what other perks people get really?

Oops darn phone - Xmas party, 75 voucher at Xmas and the odd team building meal. They also have employee reward vouchers and an awards evening

5 duvet days a year on top of A/L"
how does that work? why aren't they just Al days?

I do get some minor perks but the big ones for me are job I love, boss who doesn't make me cry, short commute, nice surroundings, loads of flexibility in where and when I work (goes both ways, I started at 6 today)

flibbetygibbett · 12/03/2015 20:53

DH's company always throw a very posh do at Xmas (slap up meal in a top restaurant, free bar, put everyone up in a nice hotel, pay transport costs etc) and the spouses/partners are given a Christmas Hamper from the comapny as a way of saying thank you for putting up with our OH's having to work long hours, bring work home, be on call at weekends etc. He also gets an annual bonus which is usually about 20% of his salary. They also subsidise his petrol to and from work as he has a long commute.
Our DD was quite poorly when she was born and spent her first two weeks in SCBU so they decided to give him an extra two weeks paid paternity leave so we could all spend some time together which was lovely and we were really touched. They also send flowers and £50 of Mothercare vouchers whenever any of their staff have a baby.

I work for the NHS though so I get diddly squat Grin

manicinsomniac · 12/03/2015 20:59

Oh yes, I forgot my 18 weeks paid holiday a year and amazing pension scheme!

We

sosix · 12/03/2015 21:04

Not me but DH, bonus (up to 100%), meals out at fancy restaurants plus drinks/coffee out, 0% loan for travel, breakfast on fridays, free fruit.

Caravanoflove · 12/03/2015 21:06

I pay for my own tea, coffee, parking, lunch. Pay for my own courses and take study leave as annual leave. Work at least 15 hours a week unpaid overtime. Compulsory exams have just cost me £2000.
I got a free mug and a biro once in 2000 but that's it.
NHS clearly.

BitterChocolate · 12/03/2015 21:13

I used to get profit related annual bonus, which was usually enough to pay for a holiday. We had Friday evening drinks and nibbles in the office. Free tea and coffee, plus lunch/breakfast provided if we had all day/all morning meetings. Each team usually had an annual away day, some sort of activity, big boozy lunch and an afternoon in the pub.

We did market research and if there were products used (for example in a mock up of a shop display) then the client generally didn't want those products back. Low value items would just be left in a meeting room and an email circulated for people to help themselves. Higher value items (usually perfume or beauty products) would be kept and every now and then there would be a charity raffle.

dun1urkin · 12/03/2015 21:46

There's a website - can't link but it's called nhs discounts (.com I assume)
There are loads of deals and discounts, it was the 20% off at Nandos that came most immediately to mind!
PS we are also lucky enough to have one of those chilled filtered tap water thingsSmile

Luckystar82 · 12/03/2015 21:46

Free tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk.
Nice lunches for meetings.

Decent maternity and sick leave.
Interest free season ticket loan.
Bonuses for exceeding target (5-10%) but challenging to achieve.
Annual away day (overnight) in a top UK hotel, free bar.

I work in a school and do DH's accounts and am technically employed by both. At school I have a great job that's close to home, a fab Head who rewards and recognises hard work, and a lovely non-cliquey group of teachers/TAs. We have a few staff nights out each year which the Head pays for.

For DH's company we go out for a Christmas do once a year and get £150 each tax-deductible towards it, so we stay overnight somewhere and get pissed up and enjoy not having to share the bed with two gigantic children. He also travels often, so earns ridiculous amounts of air miles with various airlines, so our holidays are often subsidised by those. His work is also very flexible, so when DS2 was born he took a few months off and worked remotely on a few low-key projects. That in itself was a wonderful luxury, and we're very lucky.

ceeveebee · 12/03/2015 21:52

Performance related cash bonus up to 60% of salary, plus share options worth 100% of salary each year (but get them after 3 years waiting)
Car parking space (London zone 2 so I rarely use it)
Flexible working - basically my boss couldn't care less where I am, at home or in the office - but this goes both ways as he will contact me any time and on weekends if he wants me
Subsidised coffee shop and canteen
Health insurance
Discounted gym, shopping vouchers etc
Excellent maternity policy which I'll never use as no plans to have more DC
Think there are season ticket loans but I don't use it
2 days off per year paid volunteering leave

Osirus · 12/03/2015 22:06

Is it sad the thing I'm most jealous of is the tea and coffee? It makes you feel so undervalued as a employee, having to bring tubs of Coffeemate (and cups and spoons even!) in all the time, and having these depressing conversations about "is this anyone's milk? Can I have a bit?"

I feel really down reading this thread, actually. Yeah, pension, but I'm either never going to get it, realistically, or I'll leave long before I've paid enough in to get a decent whack out, so it's pretty much worthless.

I can have all the dry wipe pens I can find, though.

Public sector yay!

AliceInSandwichLand · 12/03/2015 22:22

Christmas party
Summer barbecue
Christmas present (usually a bottle of champagne)
Flowers on my birthday
Flexible working
Drugs at cost
Fair share of chocolates brought in by grateful clients plus occasional other client gifts eg flowers, wine and now and then very random things such as hand cream, small vases, tins with rabbits painted on them, etc
Occasional random freebies from drugs reps, eg syringe shaped pens (very popular with DCs)
Allowance for CPD, sometimes
Free tea, coffee and packets of crisps (would also be biscuits if I were able to eat them)
Being able to bring my dogs to work

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 12/03/2015 22:23

Tea, coffee, fruit tea, any drink we want actually is bought for us, and obviously milk. Plus fruit is supplied by our boss. And he pays for gym membership for all of us. Plus a Christmas lunch at a restaurant, a Christmas box each and a summer outing.

Parking provided at the office, so a free car park space to use all year round. Eye test paid for.

Clients provide enough chocs and biccies throughout the year to keep us going. Office tradition dictates you bring back biccies from your holidays!

Flexible hours. (including family friendly hours ie term time school hours for those that need it).

NearlySchoolTime · 12/03/2015 22:36

Great pension, decent amount of annual leave, flexible working/jobshare and potential to earn a (small) annual bonus if performance is up to scratch. Plus I reckon no-one would miss the bulldog clips in the Cupboard Of Eighties Stationery.

ARoomWithoutAView · 12/03/2015 22:43

Free foreign travel. Free use of a foreign villa, usually in Spain or California. Most of all plenty of sex, sex, sex.

Tea, coffee, soft drinks, performance related bonus (but I consider that part of my salary), frequent lunches/dinner, Christmas party, summer event, money towards health club membership, private healthcare (although pay a fortune in tax for that). We are very well treated but no overtime and everyone works hard.

MaudeLebowski · 12/03/2015 22:54

I get great perks. My favourite is a massage every Friday.
