to think it really isn't possible to watch Serenity/Firefly too many times

Text convo with a friend this morning. Said I'd watched Serenity again last night party animal here. She said she couldn't believe I could watch that film so often.

But... but... It's Captain Tightpants.

Come on, it's not possible to overwatch this show, is it?

I was cheering when it looked like Jayne was about to get thrown out the airlock (and I'd never heard of the stuff about the actor).

Basically I like all the women (apart from River, I agree she's annoying, but at least she has reason to be so), but the men wind me up apart from Shepherd Book.

Actually, as well as the whoring there's the torture (though that episode does have on of the greatest ever moments, where Zoe insists Mal needs to kill his torturer himself and Mal politely disagrees Grin) and then the episode with Jubal Early, where he threatens to rape Kayle...

So maybe it's not a 12!

But not certain they're suitable for 12-year-olds. Some very mature themes around Inara, her career as a companion, Mal's opinion of it (i.e. he calls her a whore), her assignation with the violent shit who thinks hiring her is buying her, the time Mal sleeps with Inara's old best friend at the brothel on that remote planet...

And then there is, not to put too fine a point on it, the torture. Torture of River, and the reavers who are mentioned in detail from practically the first episode.

Zoe: "If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh and sew our skins into their clothing. And if we're very very lucky, they'll do it in that order."

Exactly, stocking. In terms of fictional characters I'd consider trading my left little toe for an afternoon with, he'd be pretty much at the top of the list.

I watched it years ago when they showed it all out of order Angry Couldn't wait till the DVD came out and I was part of the group that got Serenity made.

Oh, we didn't get as far as any of the torture. Definitely going to be a few more years!

It's so long since we saw it we can't actually remember those kinds of details.

I liked Inara though. :)

I think sometimes the thing I forget is that the 12 rating takes you all the way up to the day before you turn 15!! And as we all know that can be a massive jump depending in the child Grin

May have to give the child another year or two..he's not even 12 til may but I'm normally happy to let him watch a 12 if I've seen it first..obviously can't trust my memory

I do love Firefly the one liners! the characters! and I love Mal and Jayne (I might not love Adam Baldwin)

I wish they hadn't cancelled it, it still had so much to give!

He is! It's making me put up with the film slightly better. "I shall call it... This Land!"

I always think it's the humour that made me love Firefly so much, but actually a lot of the darker stuff is done so well, like Out of Gas and the film Serenity. If only they'd given it a little more time

Just finished watching the serenity ep. I love the bit were Mal turns up and shoots the guy that Simons trying to threaten. And then him and Jayne just unceremoniously throw his body out.

Yep that's the one thurlow.
Shepherd book is particularly awesome in it. So glad they brought out the graphic novel with his backstory in.

Firefly is my comfort viewing. I only discovered it last year, when it was shown on Syfy but I immediately bought the DVD and Serenity too and I'm on my 3rd re-watch so far. DS comes down in the morning, sees the box out and says "Muuuuum, are you watching Firefly AGAIN?" Like he didn't watch Toy Story 3 every bleeding night for about 3 years...

Anyway, xalyssx Please tell us about your tattoo! I'd love a Firefly tattoo. I have some Firefly inspired jewellery but that's it so far.
