AIBU to think MN should ban grammar and spelling pedantry on all forums except the one explicitly for this purpose.
It is so F*cking tedious!

OP posts:
Mrsmorton · 18/02/2015 09:04

I find it tedious trying to decipher what people mean when their spelling and grammar is shite so yes, YABU.

magimedi · 18/02/2015 09:08

I loathe bad grammar, especially the have/of mistake - BUT it would be rude of me to correct anyone. For all I know English may not be their first language or they may have dyslexia etc etc.

So YANBU - keep it all in pedant's corner.

Discopanda · 18/02/2015 09:08

IMO there's a difference in asking for clarification when the OP is really hard to read and understand and just nit-picking and avoiding the issue at hand so YANBU to an extent.

EveDallas · 18/02/2015 09:09

I am astounded that someone would be unable to understand a sentence simply because a poster has mistakenly used 'of' instead of 'have' (Unless of course there are some learning difficulties involved). Is it really that hard to decipher a post like that?

AwakeCantSleep · 18/02/2015 09:14

The 'of'/'have' mistake makes my toenails curls. Along with 'we was'. So YABU.

Ohfourfoxache · 18/02/2015 09:22

The current trend for correcting grammar and ignoring the subject is driving me batshit.

Yes, it is annoying. Yes, seeing of instead of have makes my teeth itch. But ffs quit the "holier than thou" attitude and just respond to the fucking op.

Yanbu!

Pagwatch · 18/02/2015 09:28

It's thick, dumb fuck, ill mannered and oafish to correct grammar or spelling on a thread.

Thick people who don't know how to behave.

m0therofdragons · 18/02/2015 09:36

Of/have is annoying but I don't feel that I need to correct the op. it may be due to auto correct, posting while distracted etc so not necessarily bad at grammar. Or, maybe they are bad at grammar but they're posting in a forum not sitting gcses.

Ludways · 18/02/2015 09:44

The of/have mistake is annoying but not as annoying as having to trawl through hundreds of posts correcting it.

feebeecat · 18/02/2015 09:47

YANBU
It's very boring & annoying.
The very last time I posted anything on fb I uploaded half way through a sentence, immediately restarted with a 'whoops, made a mistake there' disclaimer and still someone had snuck in to correct me! I was Shock at the speed of it. From someone who never, ever commented on anything I posted. Dh made me feel a bit better by pointing out what a sad life he must have to have leapt on it that quickly. On the whole though his comments made me feel like shit & totally detracted from what I was originally trying to say. Was also my last straw with the dread facebook, so maybe he did me a favour Smile

HedgehogsDontBite · 18/02/2015 09:50

YANBU It's bloody rude.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 18/02/2015 09:54

YANBU.

TheFairyCaravan · 18/02/2015 09:54

I don't understand why, if people really can't read the post due to spelling, grammar, paragraphs (don't believe that personally), they just don't post and look for another thread!

It pisses me right off when someone posts a thread where they really need help and have the thread is "PARAGRAPHS OP" "AWWW my eyes" "post again using paragraphs!"

It's fucking pathetic and makes you look like a dick!

wigglesrock · 18/02/2015 09:55

YANBU - it's done with a lot of self satisfied smuggery.

TheFairyCaravan · 18/02/2015 09:55

*half the thread!

bloody iPad!

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2015 09:56

As long as the post makes sense there's no need to point it out. You know what they mean and it just makes you look an arse.

It's a way to feel superior I guess, but it's just rude.

YANBU.

Bad manners = more annoying than poor grammar.

Sheitgeist · 18/02/2015 10:00

Asking for clarification where the post is genuinely confusing is fair enough; but when the poster corrects grammar/ spelling they clearly know what the OP meant anyway.

It's annoying at the best of times, but where the OP Is genuinely in need of advice or is in distress, it is utterly *untish.

YANBU

Firesidetreat · 18/02/2015 10:00

YANBU ,grammar corrections should be deleted.

AmysTiara · 18/02/2015 10:01

Most of the grammar police don't even give an opinion on the thread, they just come on to correct the op then bugger off again

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2015 10:03

Why once one person has pointed out the of/have 'crime' do others then have to point it out after? I don't get that at all.

Is there a of/have quiche?

I think I'm going to start reporting them as being hugely unhelpful and not in the spirit of the site. And wanky of course.
