To think that lying in bed with your arm up in the air is weird

Lighthearted: but still annoying.

DP has always done it, sort of just before going to sleep, or if I'm reading something to him in bed: he puts his arm straight up in the air above him/me. He says it's relaxing and he's done it since he was a kid. I say it's mental and annoying and makes me claustrophobic. He then says I am over sensitive and that all women would love their DP to hold an arm in the air above them.

Maybe it is something you need to have started doing in childhood to appreciate? I tried again and even though I founf holding the arm up easier this time, I still het the unplrasant sensation of blood draining out of it. I think I stick to tucking my arms to my chest while on my stomach.

ToysRLuv · 04/02/2015 16:22

sorry for typos.. and it's "get the unpleasant", of course.

Stampysladygarden · 04/02/2015 16:24

I've always done this and thought I was the only one! So glad others do this too!

posypocket · 04/02/2015 16:31

Yes I used to do this with my arm. Also with my leg. Never fallen asleep with it up there though.

Now I fall asleep in the foetal position with one arm over my ear/head as I have two children who like to indiscriminately barrel into me whenever I'm asleep.

posypocket · 04/02/2015 16:32

Obviously need the covers off with the leg one or it would be weird.

PocketFluff · 04/02/2015 16:49

I'm not the only one! Used to do this all the time as a child, but haven't recently. May have to try it again...

Girlwhowearsglasses · 04/02/2015 16:56

OMG he used to sleep walk as a child.

Nope, not Eva Braun Rosy Grin

So yes, he does actually fall asleep like that - if I let him, but having a massive hand fall on me in the night is my problem.

I just don't understand how it's possible, but I suppose lots of mammals sleep standing...

I do this sometimes. Just for a few short minutes, one arm stuck up in the air (pointing at the ceiling). I have no idea why, but I quite like it. But I couldn't imagine trying to go to sleep like that!

alltherightfriends · 04/02/2015 20:46

I do this too! And DP also thinks I am odd. I like it.

GoooRooo · 04/02/2015 20:50

Anyone want to try and break this bloke's record of 40 years of holding his arm in the air? Wink

Stampysladygarden · 04/02/2015 20:57

I'm doing it now without even realising I was doing it at first.

CheshireCait · 04/02/2015 21:02

I do it too! DH doesn't seem to mind.

I once walked into DS's room when he was a few weeks old to find him fast asleep with his left leg sticking straight up in the air.

WhatWouldBlairWaldorfDo · 04/02/2015 21:04

I do this!! Not every night, but pretty often. Ive done it since i was a kid, just feels right.

If you get it right you cant even feel your arm, then you can get a lovely head rush type feeling but in your arm.... :)

Glad to see its not just me!

TidyDancer · 04/02/2015 21:08

Yes I've done it a few times and I do find it relaxing.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 04/02/2015 21:09

I also do this sometimes, if I'm feeling relaxed (and therefore not so self-conscious as to really notice I'm doing anything strange in front of anyone). I've never, to my recollection anyway, tried to fall asleep with it up there though.

wobblebobblehat · 04/02/2015 21:11

Yes, it is.

DH sleeps with his arm across his face (bent at the elbow over his eyes and nose). He snores like a warthog. Drives me insane. I gently push his arm down which give him the fright of his life...

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 04/02/2015 21:12

I do this when I can't sleep. It works.

Showy · 04/02/2015 21:14

I do it too. And with my legs but with them bent. Knees level with my belly button, heels level with my bottom. Only while drifting off though then I screw myself up in a tiny ball on my left side. DH gets very annoyed with me as it's like trying to cuddle a clothes airer apparently.

WestEast · 04/02/2015 21:15

I do this. It's like my arm just fits all nicely into my shoulder and goes all warm and comfy. DP thinks it's odd. But it's soooo nice.

youngestisapyscho · 04/02/2015 21:15

Is it better to be on back or side? Will have to try!

Ludways · 04/02/2015 21:15

My sister used to do this when we were kids, I'll have to ask her if she still does it.

Obviously I've tried it and it feels good but I don't feel the need to do it so often, lol. I'll do it tonight though!

WineWineWine · 04/02/2015 21:26

I sometimes do this. I don't see how it affects you!

WestEast · 04/02/2015 21:26

youngest on your side. I prefer to have my right arm up in the air

AnnieEdison · 04/02/2015 21:27

I do this too - I sometimes wake up to find my arm in the end and my other hand tickling it. Always thought I was really strange, glad to know I am not alone!

AnnieEdison · 04/02/2015 21:28

Mine is always my left arm up in the air.
