To think that lying in bed with your arm up in the air is weird

Lighthearted: but still annoying.

DP has always done it, sort of just before going to sleep, or if I'm reading something to him in bed: he puts his arm straight up in the air above him/me. He says it's relaxing and he's done it since he was a kid. I say it's mental and annoying and makes me claustrophobic. He then says I am over sensitive and that all women would love their DP to hold an arm in the air above them.

You're all a bunch of right weirdos.

I haven't put a reminder on my phone to try this tonight in bed. Oh no, not I...

CocktailQueen · 04/02/2015 14:13

I do this to relax too - it's really comfy if you get your arm at the right angle so that it hangs in your socket. Not to fall asleep to, though!

AmysTiara · 04/02/2015 14:20

My dad did this. We all used to tease him, I'm amazed so many people do it

GoooRooo · 04/02/2015 14:20

Oh yes, only the right arm here too. Left arm would be really weird.

TedAndLola · 04/02/2015 14:33

I do this, just for a couple of minutes. I don't know why, it just feels nice! My husband also thinks it's weird Grin

Cocolepew · 04/02/2015 14:43

I do this too, cracks Dh up.

TedAndLola · 04/02/2015 14:45

Oh yes, only the right arm here too. Left arm would be really weird.

I do left arm only, when I'm lying on my right side. I'll have to try it the other way round too...

Bifauxnen · 04/02/2015 14:51

I wonder why it feels so natural? I can't think of any obvious evolutionary benefits offhand. Confused

Girlwhowearsglasses · 04/02/2015 14:53

Ha! Left for half an hour and you're all waving your arms about!

Yes, actually up in the air, requiring effort and everything.

There is a thing up in he air above me in the dark...

I do this too and it's oddly comforting. Only right arm for me too.

MrsMeow · 04/02/2015 14:55

I do this too! It's a strange feeling because your elbow locks and your arm feels weightless, v relaxing! I remember doing it as a child too :)

Writerwannabe83 · 04/02/2015 15:03

I used to do this Grin

invisiblecrown · 04/02/2015 15:10

This is so weird, I must try it.

growinggoldwithcustard · 04/02/2015 15:12

If it's good enough for my dogs, it's good enough for me! (Yep, I do it too).

coalscuttle · 04/02/2015 15:14

One of my dogs does it too. The other dog doesn't and thinks the first one is weird.

thatniceperson · 04/02/2015 15:15

I do this too! It feels really nice, like a head rush... In your arm...?? Very relaxing and not at all weird Smile

Eltonjohnsflorist · 04/02/2015 15:18

I have go try this. Don't you get pins and needles when all the blood has drained down though?

RosyAuroch · 04/02/2015 15:45

Is your name Eva Braun?

If so them YABU. Where to begin....

ourglass · 04/02/2015 15:49

Totally amazed there are so many people who do this. I've never done it, never heard of it, and it sounds like an awful lot of effort.

But I'm going to have to try it tonight, aren't I? And I have this vision of armies of Mumsnetters waving their arms in the air tonight like victims of mass hypnosis, whilst our respective partners wonder whether we've all taken total leave of our senses.

Bean89 · 04/02/2015 16:03

Oooh I love doing this before bed, feels great!

ToysRLuv · 04/02/2015 16:11

Having a little rest in bed and tried this. It's as weird as I thought it would be. Not at all relaxing. Maybe some people have a way of locking the arm into position so it's effortless?

Stinkle · 04/02/2015 16:11

My DD1 does this. It is weird. Even slobbing on the couch she has one hand in the air

It stays upright when she's asleep sometimes as well. I quite often go and tuck them in before I go to bed and find her fast asleep with an arm pointing in the air. She resists if I try and push it down.

She sleep walks and talks a lot too, I don't know if it's all related in its weirdness somehow
