To be disapointed by the lack of support for Harvey?

I am no fan of Katie Price, but I am really disappointed that most of the feedback I have seen regarding the LEA support Harvey has for his disability has been all about the fact that his mother is a high earner? We have a welfare state in this country for a reason- to help those in society that need it most- eg disabled children!!!. Do we want a welfare state or not? I am fearful that this country is turning into a very selfish and judgemental society that the Government is turning to it's advantage, and the welfare state will slowly be eroded away. I am am not saying that KP has any right to claim benefits, but this is about her child's education.

Most of the shared articles I've seen on facebook are supportive of KP and her son.

Not a KP fan either. But read a comment today making a valid point: with income estimated at £50 million over the years, even with a v clever accountant, she's paid millions in tax. So why the hell shouldn't she use the services she pays for to help her care for her disabled son?

Education is free for all children in the UK. KH shouldn't have to pay for Harvey just because of his disabilities.

Yes - it's nasty.

The laws are there for a reason - and it's no more 'right' to fiddle your benefits if you feel skint than it is 'moral' to not claim what you are entitled to.

Harvey gets support to access education. I'm also top tax band - and my DC also gets state funded education support - though their needs are less complex, so that just involves a local school place.

Harvey has every right to have transport to his school, it's based on need, not income! Katie Price is doing a fantastic job, shame on Dwight York, what a total utter cock.

This isn't about the welfare state or claiming benefits. It's about the state provision of education and whether disabled children have the same rights to be educated. If Harvey was a regular kid attending a regular state school nobody would question his right to be there or be suggesting his parents should pay, but because he is disabled people think he shouldn't have the same rights as other children. It makes me sick.

KP isn't responsible for closing down the local school Harvey used to go to is she? So why should she pay, she wanted the cheaper option for the state. People do talk crap.

YANBU. The day the state starts checking bank accounts before providing essential services (esp those for a disabled child) will be a sad day indeed.

I've had this a lot on my FB feed.

Most are like me, supportive of KP and Harvey.

The day we start means testing provision for a disabled child is a sad day.

I actually think most of the stuff I've seen has been supportive, means testing funding for this support would be immoral imo.

Nick Clegg came out in support of his school transport. Some things should be universal and giving a child access to an appropriate education is one of them.

To be clear - she is referring to the cost of transporting him to the nearest special school a 3 hour round trip away .

The scandal is that this vulnerable DC, and others like him lose 3 hours of every school day commuting, because it wasn't considered important for disabled kids to have an even nearly local school.

This is sad to read. A disabled child has legal rights of their own which the LA has to protect and meet, it's irrelevant who their parents happen to be.

I couldn't understand why he was travelling so far every day. Surely there was a nearer school?

Other than that, of course it shouldn't be means tested.
