To be disapointed by the lack of support for Harvey?

I am no fan of Katie Price, but I am really disappointed that most of the feedback I have seen regarding the LEA support Harvey has for his disability has been all about the fact that his mother is a high earner? We have a welfare state in this country for a reason- to help those in society that need it most- eg disabled children!!!. Do we want a welfare state or not? I am fearful that this country is turning into a very selfish and judgemental society that the Government is turning to it's advantage, and the welfare state will slowly be eroded away. I am am not saying that KP has any right to claim benefits, but this is about her child's education.

onedamnthingafteranother I don't have the first clue what you are on about!

this is worth a read www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jan/28/katie-price-benefits-disabled-son?CMP=fb_gu

well as the parent of a disabled child, I support her.
she is not the only rich person who uses services and tbh I find this targeting of her son vile.

I am sure she would rather he wasn't disabled.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/01/2015 11:41

No Katie price will not be in receipt of tax credits or CB as those depend on salary

bloodygorgeous · 30/01/2015 11:42

Of course I support her!

Who are these thick bastards who think because she's rich she should pay for Harvey's transport and health care?

What next...rich people aren't entitled to access to the NHS, council services, state education the wider Welfare State??

Wealthy people pay (huge amount of) taxes and are as entitled to these things as anyone else.

FrChewieLouie · 30/01/2015 11:42

Well, he has my support and I wouldn't begrudge the boy a penny of what he's entitled to. This whole kerfuffle has dismayed me.

I'm another parent of a disabled child and I fully support her. I don't think it should be justified though on the basis that KP pays plenty of taxes, because every disabled child should have access to a suitable education regardless of how much in taxes their parent pays. I can't pay a lot in taxes as my DD's disabilities mean I have had to be her carer and I'm a single mum, but that shouldn't affect how much DD is seen to 'deserve' getting access to transport or education.

And the combined cost of DD's education and transport is probably even higher than Harvey's, because no state special schools can cope with her disabilities so she has to go to a special school 3 hours away run by a private company (but paid for by my local authority), and she has to board Mon-Fri. Harvey would only be going to a school so far away because there would literally not be any other school closer that could meet his needs. My DD was the same, we even had to go to a tribunal to argue for her place and it was agreed by the panel that no matter what the cost was, there simply wasn't a school any closer that would meet DD's needs as she has a complex profile of difficulties. If you force disabled children to go to a more local school just because it's cheaper, you end up failing them because those schools won't have the specialist staff/facilities to help the children learn.

So sick of the complete lack of compassion that's being whipped up by politicians and the media in this country. So much I don't want my tax money wasted on x instead of there but for the grace of god.

Is there anyone out there we can vote for who doesn't want to see vulnerable people starving in the streets?

If not, I am perfectly willing to find another country that is, pay its taxes, abide by its laws and customs and be proud to call myself one of its naturalized citizens.

So now you are dirty scum and a scrounger if you access any state paid services? (education, health etc) So far as I know you can't employ your own police and fire service so how's that going to work?

With regard to NHS care. Severely disabled people are never going to be financially independent and whilst Katies income is significant now, its not guaranteed (how many people in the public eye do we see file for bankruptcy?). So if any private care is started, that automatically disqualifies someone from any future NHS help with that condition, no matter what your subsequent financial status may be (my dad found this out whilst investigating getting better drugs privately for my mothers condition). Also whilst anyone can have any procedure performed privately, should anything go wrong with it, its the NHS that picks up the tab and has to take over. Why? Despite what we have been led to believe, private healthcare doesn't cover every aspect of care. There are still some areas which only the NHS provides.

I support Katie and Harvey.

x2boys · 30/01/2015 13:47

Of course I support it ds2 is also disabled and has a statement of special educational needs and also goes to a special school via transport , I have no idea if kp claims DLA for Harvey but if she does I00% support this too I am sick of reading what people say they would do if they were in kp situation as most people will never be in that situation my child is not as disabled as katies but I have so e idea of how hard it is and all the money in the world doesn't make up for Harveys disabilities.

Frozenchipsareawful · 30/01/2015 14:16

I am no fan of hers, but with regards to Harvey she has always come across as supportive and positive about his disabilities. As pointed out already, she has paid millions in tax and it was obviously decided a long time ago that he would be entitled to a car to take him to school. I can see others point of view on this, but as a disabled citizen of the U K he should be as entitled as any other child to help too, regardless of the fact he has rich parents.

biggles50 · 30/01/2015 19:25

Yes Katie and Dwight have paid heaps in tax. Harvey deserves to be treated as any other child would be regardless of parents' earnings.

MindReader ive seen patient blaming on threads about the NHS. It seems to be the general attitude now and its scary.

I fully support Katie Price and Harvey.

I support Katie and Harvey..my brother went to a SN school, they are few and far between. He traveled a fair distance each day in the school mini bus.
People use any excuse to be arses to be honest.
