The description of that 'RealSexism' page is

Despite what you have been told, in the western world today almost all legal and lethal sexual discrimination is again men.

And it's full of the typical "There is no sexism these days, all feminists are hairy man-hating ugly bra-burners". Oh and one comment that stood out - "Women have too many rights these days".

The irony would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. The stupid, it burns.

shaska · 30/01/2015 16:59

"surely violence against men is overwhelmingly committed by men too?"

yes definitely.

AcquiredTaste · 30/01/2015 17:00

Moomin i thought thats what he meant but cant understand why he would say that to me.
Shaska probably missing the poiny (id do a big grin but dont know how)
The issue for me is in my experience the majority of violence and aggression i have seen has been by women and only once by a man. So i do think people under estimate women violence having said that i know men can be very violent. I thi k women think they will get away with violence /aggredsion to men because they know men cant fight back. But i do recognize men can be violent

BeCool · 30/01/2015 17:00

why does so much of the so-called "Men's Rights" activisim seem to be anti-feminist? It just doesn't make sense, but it does seem timely to post this for the benefit of those reading and learning:

"The main problem I have with Men’s Rights Activists is that their name really doesn’t do them justice.

They’re Straight Cis White Men’s Rights Activists.

I have NEVER seen Men’s Rights Activists campaign for the inclusion of trans men in their spaces.
I have NEVER seen Men’s Rights Activists campaign to end the social stigma around black fatherhood.
I have NEVER seen Men’s Rights Activists campaign for better pay and equal career mobility for men of colour.
I have NEVER seen Men’s Rights Activists actively campaign for more gay men’s rights.
I have NEVER seen Men’s Rights Activists advise others in their group on how using faggot to emasculate men who aren’t part of their cause is alienating and marginalising other MEN.
I have NEVER seen Men’s Rights Activists campaign, raise awareness of, or support victims of male rape unless it’s in order to derail a discussion around female victims of rape.
I have NEVER seen Men’s Rights Activists campaign, raise awareness of, or support male victims of domestic abuse unless it’s in order to derail a discussion around female victims of domestic abuse.

Men’s Rights Activists are hypocrites and frauds. They’re bitter privileged white men who don’t want to campaign for the rights of men - they want to campaign to keep their privilege unchecked and their ability to discriminate against others.

If you want to be a real Men’s Rights Activist - be a fucking Feminist."

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 30/01/2015 17:04

Men's Rights Activists aren't campaigning for their rights, so the name isn't accurate.

They're Protect White Male Privilege Activists :(

It's clear from that RealSexism page that it's full of bitter, angry white men desperate to keep their privilege. Any anti-feminist points they were trying to make, as if they weren't ridiculous enough, are negated by the anti-women memes they're posting - something about a feminist picnic being spoiled by no-one turning up with sandwiches or something ridiculous like that.

How come feminists can make their points without resorting to insulting men, but MRAs are incapable of doing the same without being so blatantly obvious in their hatred and disrespect for all women?

AcquiredTaste · 30/01/2015 17:05

Moomin is it bad if i admit i liked the page and look at what turns up on my news feed but i havent looked at the page in depth?

QueenTilly · 30/01/2015 17:12

BeCool

Brilliant!

One forum I also use has a lot of 'em. I asked one day why none of them had been posting celebrating that week's news about the introduction of shared parental leave. One claimed it wasn't important as it wouldn't change anything in our culture for oppressed men and the others ignored me.

Says it all.

AcquiredTaste · 30/01/2015 17:20

Does anyone know how to unlike on facebook? I think i have been lucky at what was put on my feed. I have missed the worst of the hatred.

BeCool · 30/01/2015 17:23

the same as "liking" but you click on "unlike" or "unfollow"

AcquiredTaste · 30/01/2015 17:24

Thank you

FuckOffGroundhog · 30/01/2015 17:37

acquired the majority of your government (and I don't even know where you live) is male.

The majority of your police are male

The majority of your judges are male

The majority of every person in every senior position in every board room is male.

In the majority of relationships the man will be larger and stronger.

How do you you reckon women are getting all these rights and privileges?

While it's very sad you have suffered violence from women do you think you might be an anomaly? Do you think the statistic that 90% of murders are by men is just really sneaky women blaming men for their actions?

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 30/01/2015 17:38

I've looked at about all I can stomach of the Real Sexism page in about 1 minute flat.

The Telegraph article linked to was this one Men must prove a woman said yes under tough new rape rules

Of course, they're up in arms about that - apparently making sure they get a definite 'yes' from a woman they are about to have sex with is unthinkable to them.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 30/01/2015 17:41

Sabrina Oh god, heaven forbid they have to keep it in their pants until a woman has agreed to have sex with them! We're such mean feminists, can't we see that it's a man's right to have sex with a woman whether she consents or not? :(

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 30/01/2015 17:41

This law isn't even for them. They'd have to get a willing woman in their bed in the first place.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 30/01/2015 17:46

Oh and they actually just make figures up too - someone's posted that 70% of DV is initiated by women (yes, you read that right!)

I mean usually they use the 40% figure - which was reported in the Guadian - but is highly misleading, not an accurate figure and has been highly criticised/debunked.

TiggyD · 30/01/2015 17:47

I think the problem is in getting a definite yes from a woman they're about to have sex with, in front of an unbiased witness, on paper, or video. It's the being able to prove it that's the concern. If you're with a male partner, can he prove you gave consent last time you both ?

ApocalypseThen · 30/01/2015 17:49

That may be a clear eyed, realistic assessment of the likelihood of it happening.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 30/01/2015 17:51

Oh, and they want feminism designated as a terrorist group. They have a petition.

FuckOffGroundhog · 30/01/2015 17:55

It's the being able to prove it that's the concern.

It's only a concern to men that think women are liars.

FuckOffGroundhog · 30/01/2015 17:56

Oh, and they want feminism designated as a terrorist group. They have a petition.

Shit, lock em up, they might throw themselves in front of your horse. Hmm

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 30/01/2015 17:58

He wouldn't need to Tiggy, since he got the definite yes from me, so I haven't reported him to the police for rape.

I guess if I suddenly took leave of my senses and did report him for rape, he would be able to describe perfectly well how and why he believed I had consented.

Why do so many think consent is a 'grey area'? It's really not.

FuckOffGroundhog · 30/01/2015 18:00

I guess if I suddenly took leave of my senses and did report him for rape, he would be able to describe perfectly well how and why he believed I had consented.

And even if he couldn't he'd have a fucking hard time actually getting himself convicted and getting any proper jail time for it.

FloraFox · 30/01/2015 18:03

He's not required to prove it, FFS! The burden of proof is still on the prosecution. He's only going to be asked by the police and the prosecution (IF he gives evidence) why he thought she consented. I would actually go further and require that a man whose defence will be consent must give evidence, though even then (which is not happening) the burden of proof will still be on the prosecution.

Honestly, if a man can't explain why he thought the woman was consenting, he shouldn't be allowed out in public.

Is it porn that is making all these men not know what consent looks like? I feel really sorry for their wanksocks partners.

shaska · 30/01/2015 18:06

Sorry tiggyD not sure if you actually wanted this answered, but

If you're with a male partner, can he prove you gave consent last time you both ?

Yeah he really could. The guidelines say nothing about physical proof. It's just about asking questions. And my DH would have no problem at all answering those questions.
