to ask you if you get diarrhea during your period

I have always suffered with diarrhea sorry if I've spelt it incorrectly during my period. Today I've had stomach cramps, runny poo and this evening AF arrived. For some reason I googled it tonight and it turns out according to Google at least that loads of women have this.

All my life I thought I was the only person in the world this happened to and I have always hated it and thought that I was the world's luckiest woman suffering with cramps, bleeding AND diarrhea.

I don't really have that many friendships where I'd be comfortable asking the other person if they have exploding poos when menstruating, so I thought I'd turn to mumsnet and try and canvas other women to see if it happens to them too.

Honestly I am not a troll, just someone who is genuinely curious (naive ham, pom bears, boak),

Every single time. Then towards the end I get constipated - can't win.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 14/01/2015 23:08

I do, every single time. It usually starts the day before my period is going to start, a handy warning so to speak

FlappertyFlippers · 14/01/2015 23:08

Naice ham, not naive ham, blame my autocorrect

Yes absolutely me too.

Funkytown · 14/01/2015 23:09

Every time it's bloody horrible

ghostyslovesheep · 14/01/2015 23:09

yep - and the other 3 weeks as well - I am blessed !

QueenBean · 14/01/2015 23:09

Yep, always

Something to do with the unbalance of hormones, right?

Lweji · 14/01/2015 23:09

It does become looser, but that is usually following mild constipation the day before.
I suppose the muscle contractions are somewhat linked.
Do you take anything for the cramps?

SillyPops · 14/01/2015 23:10

Yup, hate it!

pieceofpurplesky · 14/01/2015 23:10

Yep

KirjavaTheCat · 14/01/2015 23:10

Yes - there's a term for it I believe. Mine usually accompanies the horrific cramping and sometimes vomiting. Yay womanhood.

Dr0pThePirate · 14/01/2015 23:10

Oh yeah! Peanut butter jelly time! Grin

GreenPetal94 · 14/01/2015 23:10

sometimes, but not every month

meglet · 14/01/2015 23:13

I always did, the first 24hrs.

but since I had a hysterectomy I can't pinpoint my cycle anymore. I often wonder if my odd dose of IBS is the day my period should arrive.

Fluffyears · 14/01/2015 23:13

Yes and other times when I try to go I get unbeleivably awful shooting cramp in my arse that takes my breath away! Just another 'joy' of being a woman.

LemonDrizzleTwunt · 14/01/2015 23:15

Without fail. With accompanying ring sting and bubbling, roiling intestines.

However, it doesn't hurt, and I work from home, so I quite enjoy the opportunity to spend added time sitting on the bog playing candy crush Grin

LemonDrizzleTwunt · 14/01/2015 23:15

Oooh fluffy yes! I didn't know other people got that! It feels like someone's just stabbed you somewhere between your arse and the bottom of your spine!

Thoughtfulduck · 14/01/2015 23:16

Yes! And then constipation Hmm

Velvetbee · 14/01/2015 23:16

Yep.

WhatWouldBlairWaldorfDo · 14/01/2015 23:17

Yep...and i only realised the link about a year ago. After having periods for 14 years. I asked my friends when i made the link, (we have the kind of relationship where you feel perfectly comfortable asking "do you get the shits before you come on?" ) and out of my main group of 5, 4 of us do! Its a good warning though :)

I get it the day before, and a very slight backache, then come on the morning after with no other symptoms.

Quiero · 14/01/2015 23:17

Yep, every time. Like it's not bad enough to have unwanted fluids gushing out of your vagina, you get the joy of unwanted fluids gushing out of your arse. Brill!

judydoes · 14/01/2015 23:18

Yep, me too. Wonderful, isn't it. And same as fluffy! It's awful, sometimes feels as if It's somewhere between my butt and my fanjo.

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/01/2015 23:19

It's the Progesterone Poo that trumpets the arrival of AF.
Sometimes accompanied by a small Hormonal Honk.
And Pesky Period Pain.

AWholeLottaNosy · 14/01/2015 23:21

Yes but only on the first day. Also get backache and a craving for chocolate. ( only at that time of the month, honest!)

fromparistoberlin73 · 14/01/2015 23:21

It's very common something to do with the hormones shaking up the colon ?
