to ask you if you get diarrhea during your period

I have always suffered with diarrhea sorry if I've spelt it incorrectly during my period. Today I've had stomach cramps, runny poo and this evening AF arrived. For some reason I googled it tonight and it turns out according to Google at least that loads of women have this.

All my life I thought I was the only person in the world this happened to and I have always hated it and thought that I was the world's luckiest woman suffering with cramps, bleeding AND diarrhea.

I don't really have that many friendships where I'd be comfortable asking the other person if they have exploding poos when menstruating, so I thought I'd turn to mumsnet and try and canvas other women to see if it happens to them too.

Honestly I am not a troll, just someone who is genuinely curious (naive ham, pom bears, boak),

yep!

Mynewnamenotyours · 15/01/2015 11:16

Yep, me too!

Tanith · 15/01/2015 12:19

Yep! And the headache from hell. And the period that lasts eight or nine days, needing 3 night time sanitary towels and industrial strength tampon for two of them. Angry

I look like something Dracula dragged in by the end of it all. Roll on the menopause! Grin

JoanHickson · 15/01/2015 12:27

Yes I get loose stools on day one of my period and strong sharp bum pain sometimes. Again I thought this was PCOS/endometriosis related. Clearly it's normal.

Fleurdebleurgh · 15/01/2015 12:30

This explains it well...

iwantgin · 15/01/2015 12:35

i suffer from constipation for a couple of days prior. Then when my period starts I need to 'go'. It's not quite diarrhoea but certainly looser. I just assumed that it was all the contractions and stuff moving it around ??

HighwayDragon · 15/01/2015 12:47

period poo, javline arse, and the farts. Isn't menstruation great Hmm Angry

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 15/01/2015 12:48

Yes, diarreah with horrific stomach cramps (stomach, not uterine) which have in the past been enough to make me pass out. Awful, but apparently quite common.

ElectraInExcelsis · 15/01/2015 12:49

This happened to me when I was a teenager and had very bad period pains.

Pandora37 · 15/01/2015 13:08

I get it but only if I have period pain. Once the pain starts I need to make a dash for the toilet for the inevitable tons of pooing that will happen. I often feel sick as well. The other morning I woke up feeling sick so I knew I was going to get my period.

IsadoraQuagmire · 15/01/2015 13:13

Yes I do. Not terribly bad, but noticeable. Also get extra clumsy just before period starts (like I tend to drop things/knock into things more)

LilMissSunshine9 · 15/01/2015 15:36

Omg I thought it was just me too! Phew!

I have noticed though now that since I turnd 30 my period symptoms have changed - has anyone else's? I was usually had no problems but now I found no matter what I eat I get runny poo and noisy explosive ones. I also fart alot in the run up to it (thankfully they are not loud farts)

At first the runny poo was just during my period than it started to be a week before I came 'on' aswell as during so I went to the doctoer and asked for the mini pill because I will no longer put up with it being 2 weeks long! Especially having to work in an office its embarrassing to go to the toilet.

I also find I have two really heavy days and I mean really heavy where I almost have to double up on pads.

HamishBamish · 15/01/2015 15:39

Yes I do, for the first couple of days.

HamishBamish · 15/01/2015 15:40

I forgot javeline arse. I get that too!

tipp2chicago · 15/01/2015 15:42

I get that too sometimes. I've heard it referred to as the Bitch Shits.

GirlInASwirl · 15/01/2015 15:45

I had all kinds of problems with menstrual cycle Lil. Tendency to go constipated rather than the other way. Anyway during ovarian surgery/scans later; discovered that my bowel and fertility equipment were very close together - so no wonder one affected the other. Loved and loathed my monthly cycle. Been on the progesterone only pill since surgery and it has bought some balance (and boredom) back into my life. Feel more in control of own body now though. Some women just have a rotten time with hormonal balance and how it affects them physically.

Pipbin · 15/01/2015 15:47

Yup, I get that too.

Anyway, one way to remember how to spell diarrhoea is Doesn't It Always Run Rather Horribly Over Each Ankle.

Fatalatomo · 15/01/2015 16:50

Yep, terrible vomit out of the arse poo!

I always put it down to the ibs but that prob isn't the cause it just makes it worse.
I had very very heavy periods on for two then off for two so I spent mealy every half of the month with "arse vomit"

The implant has made period lighter than it was. It's more unpredictable now though.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 15/01/2015 16:56

Yup. I spew a lot too.

I also get the opposite, where diarroea after laxitives can 'inspire' me to bleed. Just the once, not like a proper period.

I always thought its kind of like how you are advised to eat pineapple/curry so the peristalsis induces labour?

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 15/01/2015 17:02

Constipation for me. Yay

katienana · 15/01/2015 17:15

yes, constipation first then the runs! javelin arse - so relieved this has a name. I have to squeeze something when I get it as it hurts like a bastard.

piggychops · 15/01/2015 17:23

It's caused by prostaglandin. That's the hormone which makes your uterus contract to expel the lining/ blood. The type of muscle ( smooth muscle) is also found in your intestines which is why you get gut pain, diarrhoea and nausea.
I get it too

heatseeker14 · 15/01/2015 18:29

Yes same here I nearly shat myself on holiday because of it. I was literally shaking from the shock when I emerged from the cubicle hoping no one had followed me in!

OmnipotentQueenOfTheUniverse · 15/01/2015 18:34

Yes! I get the runs when I've got my period.

I only linked it about 2 years ago at the ripe old age of 38.

WHY are girls not told this stuff? It would really help to know that things like this are perfectly normal and something that might happen!

ocelot41 · 15/01/2015 18:35

Yup. Sing together: sometimes its hard to be a woman...Catch myself quite looking forward to menopause. Oh wait, that's meant to be crap too Confused
