to ask you if you get diarrhea during your period

I have always suffered with diarrhea sorry if I've spelt it incorrectly during my period. Today I've had stomach cramps, runny poo and this evening AF arrived. For some reason I googled it tonight and it turns out according to Google at least that loads of women have this.

All my life I thought I was the only person in the world this happened to and I have always hated it and thought that I was the world's luckiest woman suffering with cramps, bleeding AND diarrhea.

I don't really have that many friendships where I'd be comfortable asking the other person if they have exploding poos when menstruating, so I thought I'd turn to mumsnet and try and canvas other women to see if it happens to them too.

Honestly I am not a troll, just someone who is genuinely curious (naive ham, pom bears, boak),

Yep. Every time.

DazzleU · 15/01/2015 00:04

Yes - but I never used to - only last few years - started odd month now it's most months mild constipation and diarrhoea.

I only know I'm not only one like this thanks to reading a similar thread months ago on here.

I also have the really horny bit day before it turns up - which seems bloody odd to me but assume also hormone related.

TheSpottedZebra · 15/01/2015 00:04

Yup, I also don't sleep with my period. It's the temperature, plus the pain, and the being g really heavy so needing to get up in the night to change pads etc... So that makes me a grumpy cow in the day, which then means I need carbs and to be Left Alone...

Jill2015 · 15/01/2015 00:10

Yes, OP, don't felt alone.
Also horrible sweaty feeling a night or two before AF arrives. The joys of being a woman...who knew...

Jill2015 · 15/01/2015 00:10

Feel... Not felt...

rainyevening · 15/01/2015 00:13

Aha. I thought this was just me. No other PMS, no cramps, no nothing. Just the runs.

Oh, and clumsiness. Knocking things over etc. Anyone else?

StrikesMatches · 15/01/2015 00:22

Rainyevening, my spatial awareness goes to pot, I have to concentrate really hard when driving and I try to avoid car parks.

aurorablues · 15/01/2015 00:23

I'm quite clumsy.

Come think of it, i'm as useless as a chocolate teapot through first few days.

I get very hot at night and is definitely the reason i can't quite sleep very well.

I have to have the window open, even in the middle of winter. Muchto DP's dismay lol.

Bogeyface · 15/01/2015 00:31

Yep, I get the runs too. Its horrible :(

Mulligrubs · 15/01/2015 00:36

Yep I get a bit of a dodgy belly for the first few days, always have.

sparkle101 · 15/01/2015 04:41

Me too. Only started after I'd had the children (like two disastrous pregnancies wasn't payback enough!)

mofro · 15/01/2015 05:20

Me too....and i thought i was special!

AnyFucker · 15/01/2015 06:51

yup

and javelin arse mid cycle

SteveBrucesNose · 15/01/2015 07:08

I also can't handle alcohol when I'm on. 3 weeks a month I could drink most people under the table. When I'm on, however, 2 gin and tonics and I'm chucking my guts up today the following morning

MrsHoolie · 15/01/2015 07:21

I've always had the squits with periods/period pain.
In the last few months ive been taking starflower oil which has left me pain free for the first time in my life. Without the period pain I don't get the squits either.

Mammanat222 · 15/01/2015 07:45

I spot for a day then have a really loose poo on the actual first day of bleeding. It's always different from my normal number 2's - Very distinctive - I call it my period poo. Always only that first day as well.

HelloItsStillMeFell · 15/01/2015 07:49

Yes I do. It's not terrible, but it's definitely looser and more frequent. I think the bloating from menstruation puts pressure on my bowel somehow.

Eltonjohnsflorist · 15/01/2015 07:54

Yes and for the first 10 weeks of pregnancy instead of morning sickness (preferred it tho!)

Mrsjayy · 15/01/2015 08:52

Yes I do my cycle is somewhere between 21 and 29ish days so I knowif I get the runs it isonits way stomach really hurts today

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 15/01/2015 09:00

Can I have a self pitying whinge on this thread?
I've not had periods for years (4/5 years) 2 pregnancies close together and then was on the depo for a while. Yesterday bleeding started and this morning the long forgotten hell has returned. Horrible pain, nausea, bloating and diarrhea, the combined effect of which makes me come over in a cold sweat.
I'd forgotten how horrid they are and am feeling very sorry for myself that the bastard things have come back. Sad

Notnaice · 15/01/2015 09:01

Yep I did too.

sparechange · 15/01/2015 09:02

For the first few days, then badly constipated.

I thought it was something just I was blessed with until I saw Caitin Moran mention something on Twitter a few years ago about it happening to her, and loads and loads of other people replied to her saying they had it as well

ghostinthecanvas · 15/01/2015 09:02

First clue I had that I was pregnant, no farting. Suddenly realised I wasn't passing huge amounts of wind pre period. My gynae diagnosed me with endometriosis a year later. I always thought my bowel/javelin arse was linked to endo. Going by this thread its normal Shock

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/01/2015 09:06

Me too. Although it's all gone away since I had a Mirena coil fitted, it's bliss, planning to keep that till I'm through the menopause. .

SparklyTwinkleGlitter · 15/01/2015 09:12

Yup, all of that plus when I was 35, I started getting 3 day migraines immediately before my period starts.

All caused by bloody bastard hormones. Angry

Mirena Coil has reduced the severity of my periods significantly but none of the other symptoms, inc. the migraines.
