to ask you if you get diarrhea during your period

I have always suffered with diarrhea sorry if I've spelt it incorrectly during my period. Today I've had stomach cramps, runny poo and this evening AF arrived. For some reason I googled it tonight and it turns out according to Google at least that loads of women have this.

All my life I thought I was the only person in the world this happened to and I have always hated it and thought that I was the world's luckiest woman suffering with cramps, bleeding AND diarrhea.

I don't really have that many friendships where I'd be comfortable asking the other person if they have exploding poos when menstruating, so I thought I'd turn to mumsnet and try and canvas other women to see if it happens to them too.

Honestly I am not a troll, just someone who is genuinely curious (naive ham, pom bears, boak),

Ive had stabby arse too!! Very rarely though, not every month thank god Literally feels like ive sat on a knife!
Oh the pleasures of being a woman eh?

PasstheDaimbars · 14/01/2015 23:22

Oh the plus side it's also one of the reasons that menstruating women are a lot less likely to get bowel cancer. . . .

StrikesMatches · 14/01/2015 23:23

Fluffyyears, I've heard that pain referred to as pineapple up the bum. Perfect description. I get that, constipation and diarrhoea. It's just delightful.

Apparently whatever loosens the bowels during your period makes bum sex easier. Sounds like a fun distraction...

FlappertyFlippers · 14/01/2015 23:23

Oh, thank you all! This is why I love mumsnet. I AM NOT ALONE

Nearly 20 years of periods and I thought I was some kind of disgusting poo period freak, but loads of you have this too. I now have tears in my eyes at the thought of it. Fecking hormones! Although you all have my sympathy I cannot describe how happy I am with all your responses! Why did I not know this happened to others too?

Oh and also REALLY REALLY HORNY!!Smile

BigBirthdayGloom · 14/01/2015 23:24

Yep! And still I am surprised that my period arrives!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 14/01/2015 23:25

Yeah I get period poo.

Glittermud · 14/01/2015 23:25

Yes! And weird sore gums. Does anyone else get that?

306235388 · 14/01/2015 23:26

Yes to start with then a horrible constipated feeling and bloating.

Hmm
TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/01/2015 23:27

And sore feet? As if they are maybe a tad swollen or something?

306235388 · 14/01/2015 23:27

Oh and when I was pregnant both times my bowels were horrific

NonUrinatInVentum · 14/01/2015 23:28

Yep!

TheReluctantCountess · 14/01/2015 23:29

Yes, I do. Makes work very unpleasant.

stopgap · 14/01/2015 23:31

Yes, but only on the first day. Pre kids, I also used to vomit all day the first day of my period, and have contractions comparable to those during childbirth.

Strangely, I had the easiest pregnancies in terms of nausea and stomach issues.

BikeRunSki · 14/01/2015 23:33

Yep, v loose stools followed by constipation. It's delightful. Don't tell you that in sex ed.

2rebecca · 14/01/2015 23:34

Yes, it's a progesterone thing. High progesterone before your period can constipate you and then your progesterone falls your period starts and your bowels start working again. That's how it is with me anyway with premenstrual constipation too.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/01/2015 23:41

The bum pineapple thing is known as arse javelin on MN. I get that too. Yay.

And Tinkly - yy to swollen sore feet. Why?!

aurorablues · 14/01/2015 23:42

I'm so happy i'm not the only one :D

I get lots of coming on symptoms so in usually know when it happens. The final indicator is the complete flushing out of my bowels, i then know i'll come on within about 2 hours.

After that i get stabby arse and constipation :(

Sometimes the stabby arse wakes me up in the middle of the night.

I also sleep terribly when i'm on my period.

moonbabyandthebeast · 14/01/2015 23:47

Yes- diarrhoea before and for first day, accompanied by a ridiculous amount of wind-lovely!

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 14/01/2015 23:49

Not full diarrhoea but certainly looser poo the day before/first day. No major problems with constipation luckily.

Pineapple up the bum also known as javelin arse I believe. Ouch.

FightOrFlight · 14/01/2015 23:51

Looking back through my menopausal haze I remember I used to have the squits-constipated-squits routine during the first part of my period.

LoisWilkerson15 · 14/01/2015 23:51

Yes Blush And the stabbing butt pain, and the foul wind, homicidal tendencies, spots, exhaustion, cramps, bloating, teariness, the horn, back to homicidal thoughts....they told us none of that during the 'the talk'. CakeWine

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 14/01/2015 23:54

Yep without fail. Couple of days before my periods start I fart like a trooper so always know it's coming!

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 14/01/2015 23:56

Yes, and javelin arse. The utter joys of womanhood.

StrikesMatches · 14/01/2015 23:56

Aurorablues, I don't sleep for the first 2 days of my period either. It's hell, because it causes a knock on meaning I don't sleep for the best part of a week and that coupled with the hormones makes me utterly husbandhomicidal.

I learned from an Always commercial that body temp goes up a couple of degrees the first couple of days of your period, which can impact on sleep. it's not just about rollerskating in white shorts, it's education too
