"You don't even have to defrost them"

Who out there is defrosting frozen onions??

QueenOfBrian · 10/01/2015 11:51

Is this the advert were she says I'm from engilshmums dot com and I love frozen onions? I've only seen it once and might of misheard. But I was Wtf? Englishmums .com?!?

Seff · 10/01/2015 11:51

Sorry kids, tea's going to be a while - I need to defrost the onions.

katese11 · 10/01/2015 11:57

How would you even do it? microwave? hot water? warm them in the palm of your hand?

TheSpottedZebra · 10/01/2015 11:57

I love frozen onions.
I've not seen Barry's work though -I shall await it in anticipation...

hiddenhome · 10/01/2015 11:59

Frozen onions are a good idea though. As is garlic in a jar.

florencedombey · 10/01/2015 12:04

But it only takes two minutes to chop up a real onion.....

SaucyJack · 10/01/2015 12:06

I defrost them first when I use them. You can't get wet soggy ones crispy.

Thenapoleonofcrime · 10/01/2015 12:08

That risotto looks just awful- soggy onions, with rice, with frozen prawns and peas. So bland and awful looking! And who are 'englishmums.com'? I actually don't want to google them to give them more hits.

ZammoMcGuire · 10/01/2015 12:12

They're all obsessed with frozen onions. They smear them all over their bodies.

Seff · 10/01/2015 12:12

I do use Sainsbobs frozen stewing vegetables as they are useful in a hurry or for cheap weeks.

It's not just time taken to chop. I've had a clingy baby this week, even giving him food hasn't worked, he's wanted to be held most of the time. I can do lots of things with one hand, but wielding a knife isn't one of them!

ZammoMcGuire · 10/01/2015 12:13

You are just the ultimate lazy fucker if you can't chop an onion.

ZammoMcGuire · 10/01/2015 12:14

It's a miracle our babies made it past a year really. Without frozen onions

Virgin cooking or whatever Barry is. That's the nearest he's got to sex in a while

TheIronGnome · 10/01/2015 12:17

I love frozen onions, first discovered them years ago in Greece!

I live on my own, and sometimes have dinner at work, fresh fruit and veg often goes off faster than I can use it and so having ingredients I can use small amounts of like that is perfect for me!

If I'm cooking 'properly' then I like to use fresh onions but just for me, for a quick meal- frozen onions are great.

ZammoMcGuire · 10/01/2015 12:18

Yup. Damn those sell by dates on onions.

OP posts:
PandasRock · 10/01/2015 12:22

I've not seen the adverts, but frozen onions are ace. And frozen herbs. And garlic.

I can chop perfectly well ( and do, for all other veg) but onions and garlic were forever going off in my veg tray. I hate waste, even if it is 'just' an onion or half a garlic bulb.
Indoor herbs I just kill, and outdoor ones aren't possible at the moment in my building site garden. So frozen is the way forward.

MrsCakesPrecognition · 10/01/2015 12:27

I love frozen onions. I am very good at chopping onions (or I used to be), but they cause me so much pain in my eyes that I can't keep my eyes open while chopping. It feels like having cleaning products rubbed in my eyes. It is hard to safely chop an onion with my eyes shut. So fuck off with the "lazy" crap.

hiddenhome · 10/01/2015 12:36

I hate chopping stuff up and the onions give me painful eyes.

Trills · 10/01/2015 12:36

I don't object to the existence of frozen onions.

I do object to the raving over them as if they are new and exciting.

Here's a thread from 2012 complaining that Sainsbury's had STOPPED selling them.

So at least 2 years ago MNers were accustomed to their existence enough to complain when they were unavailable.

TheSpottedZebra · 10/01/2015 12:38

I can buy, store, chop etc an onion perfectly well (wow!) ta v much. But sometimes I just can't be arsed. So then I use frozen ones. You don't even need to defrost them!

BMO · 10/01/2015 12:38

I hate chopping onions, hurts my eyes - frozen are much better.

I only buy frozen veg now though. No waste.

SaucyJack · 10/01/2015 12:39

I can chop an onion. I just don't want to.

Lazy fucker and proud.

SoupDragon · 10/01/2015 12:41

I love frozen onions. No tears for a start :) I rarely use a lot of onion so the frozen ones are perfect.

Sometimes I have chopped my own onions and frozen them when I've had to buy fresh ones for something and not used them all.

Trills · 10/01/2015 12:41

To the right of my "Threads I'm On" there's a moving advert about making cottage pie with frozen mash.

Physically moving I mean. A video or something. Not emotionally moving.
