To say that in the light of what has happened in Paris we mustn't give the extremists what they want..?

I'd like to reproduce an article in The New Statesman which is basically saying that the aims of these attacks is to increase anti Muslim prejudice, increasing attacks on these communities ( as we've already seen in France) and thereby increasing the sense of alienation and hostility towards the West and recruiting more terrorists...?

I don't think this is a recent development in Islam. If one looks at the history of Islam, it is not peaceful. It is violent.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/01/2015 10:51

Have read posts saying all Muslims are nutters. And that someone praying is offensive. And that we must stop all immigration of anyone who is Muslim.

The far right will be lapping this up.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/01/2015 10:52

I think people like to paint us as lefties protecting their own bubble rather than look in mirror and admit their views might be a wee bit offensive.

Gauri · 10/01/2015 10:53

What is the person trying to prove praying on a train with an atmosphere we have currently. I do not think all Muslims should be apologetic for the crimes being committed in name of Islam but at the same time, should have a heightened sense of awareness in public of what they r saying, doing etc.

CatCushion · 10/01/2015 10:55

PausingFlatly I was just thinking the same, and that it reminded me of the long spate of 'Christian' cults there were a few decades ago across America and Europe, which sometimes resulted in mass suicide pacts. Madness.

One of the Paris terrorists said something like 'we are not killers, we are killing those who are against The Prophet'. Let's just think about how little sense that makes, and the process and upbringing and flawed theology that must have led to that statement.

ghostland · 10/01/2015 10:55

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an incredible woman and incredible human being. She is brave, eloquent, intelligent, moral. Wish there were more human beings like her around.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/01/2015 10:57

He isnt proving anything Gauri.

If he exists and isn't some made up Britain First/BNP meme.

It was just his prayer time.

IF it happened, which i doubt.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/01/2015 10:58

This thread had been so refreshing compared to some others. Sad it has gone downhill

Gauri · 10/01/2015 10:58

This diversion, to the west of 'Sunni and Shia'... Well, it doesn't matter. Fundamentally it is all Islam that is creating these terrorists.

Gauri · 10/01/2015 11:00

Items probably refreshing as long as it did not address the real issues.

PausingFlatly · 10/01/2015 11:00

And simon, I don't know what you've been watching, but ISIS in no sense claim all their actions are "revenge for drone attacks" or even anything to do with the US.

The current massacres of Yazidis in Iraq are because ISIS have declared Yazidi beliefs to be devil worship, and therefore to be destroyed. After being used as sex slaves for the heroic warriors, of course.

PausingFlatly · 10/01/2015 11:04

Talk to me about Northern Ireland, Gauri.

Fundamentally was it all Christianity creating those terrorists?

2015ontheway · 10/01/2015 11:06

Hallelujah for this thread and for reasoned voices.
The views I'm seeing expressed here and elsewhere recently are jaw droppingly racist and intolerant and it's ironic that people think somehow their own extremism and black and white thinking is perfectly acceptable. So it's fine to talk about kicking a praying Muslim in the head or voting for fascists these days because that's a reasonable response?? What is happening to people? Has no one ever learnt anything?

Gauri · 10/01/2015 11:22

Norther Irish conflict stayed largely in Northern Ireland and UK.

Here the conflict is in greater parts of Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, USA, Middle East. Against women, captured journalists, children, anyone week.

All these atrocities makes IRA look like small fish.

PausingFlatly · 10/01/2015 11:24

I asked you, was it Christianity that created those terrorists?

Not

Gauri · 10/01/2015 11:28

Yes it was.

Same as Islam is creating these. The fundamental teachings that it is okay to kill in the name of jihad, one will go to heaven and get 72 virgins, etc seems to be the fundamental issue.

Gauri · 10/01/2015 11:33

If you are trying to imply that Islam is not creating this conflict, then you are living on a different planet to me.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/01/2015 11:34

Lemony your posts are disgusting.

PausingFlatly · 10/01/2015 11:34

So Northern Ireland nothing to do with civil rights or nationalism then?

And meanwhile in my village in England, same religions living side by side not only without killing each other but sharing religious events at festivals.

Mn-hmn.

ChickenMe · 10/01/2015 11:35

Fanjo you used that very technique - UKIP and right wing you said. In the interests of debate, what lead you to that conclusion? And what said I that you found patronising?

The point I would like to make (to all) is that I think its unhelpful to use "slurs" in this way. We deserve better than that.

(I'd perhaps understand that sort of response if I or another had rocked up saying "send em all home I hate the lot of em". Most people here are not saying that-most contributors on the relevant threads appear reasonably educated, although some have perhaps got a bit emotional.)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/01/2015 11:37

Well you call it a technique. I call it my feelings on the matter.

Look at lemonys post. "I'm not a Muslim so I won't gun him down". Jeeze.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/01/2015 11:39

Chicken. People have been saying send them home.

Your post on other thread reminded me of the far right attitudes. If you are not far right fair enough, then obviously I was wrong.

But there are a lot of the attitudes around.

Now maybe get over it.

ChickenMe · 10/01/2015 11:42

Legally he is allowed to pray on a train. I am allowed to
pray on a train. Provided that he doesn't contravene any railway byelaws any objections to him doing so are just your opinion to which you are entitled but that is it.

I doubt he exists anyway too.
