To say that in the light of what has happened in Paris we mustn't give the extremists what they want..?

I'd like to reproduce an article in The New Statesman which is basically saying that the aims of these attacks is to increase anti Muslim prejudice, increasing attacks on these communities ( as we've already seen in France) and thereby increasing the sense of alienation and hostility towards the West and recruiting more terrorists...?

mrsruffalo I still don't quite get your point- is racism and intolerance against Muslims ok because it doesn't happen as often as racism and tolerance against Jews? Because isn't any instance of racism and intolerance worthy of condemnation? Shouldn't we stamp on it whenever and wherever it appears?

mrsruffallo · 10/01/2015 12:20

Poor, poor woman. That is so sad. My thoughts go out to her family.

babbas · 10/01/2015 12:21

Denying pedophilia exists??!

Come on far-righters, that argument is pretty lame even for you.

Gauri · 10/01/2015 12:21

Not sure where this thread is going.

2015ontheway · 10/01/2015 12:22

Intolerance, not tolerance- phone, sorry

mrsruffallo · 10/01/2015 12:25

Absolutely, it should all be stamped on. But I will not tolerate the intolerable. Islam is not a race so I am not sure how one can be racist against muslims. Muslims are shown tolerance in England. It is why lots of them live here and feel free to express themselves. For Jewish people there seems to be a more real danger.

mrsruffallo · 10/01/2015 12:28

I don't need to find compassion, and I am not frothing. You do not have an understanding of either tolerance or understanding. That's clear from your posts.

Dawndonnaagain · 10/01/2015 12:28

I don't want to be confronted with bigots, Lemony, but here I am.

Allingoodfaith · 10/01/2015 12:29

babbas I think the 'lame' and 'far-righters' comment was for me?? don't know why as am certainly not far right otherwise I wouldn't be living with my DP right now and dd2 wouldn't be here. I used the paedophile example of how very often posters have ostrich syndrome. Please don't assume what you don't know.

I do think there will be an attack but I cant get upset about it as there is nothing I can do. I just hope that the powers that be manage to stop them like they have been doing.

PhaedraIsMyName · 10/01/2015 12:30

Link to murder of Saudi student.

Proving what? Did you read the full article?

cleanmachine · 10/01/2015 12:31

I agree with babbas and the others.

I was sent this link this morning and it sums up how i feel. I cant understand how seemingly intelligent people are demanding an apology from all muslims and what will this achieve other than further alienating people from each other.

mrsruffallo · 10/01/2015 12:34

Allingoodfaith- There are some posters on here that throw the far right insult out at anyone who disagrees with them. Don't take any notice. They are just reacting to the terrible events of the last few days in their own way.

GraysAnalogy · 10/01/2015 12:34

You can be as liberal as you like but I for one am glad people are now realising - and now aren't afraid to speak out - that there is side of Islam that is a threat to our society.

ChickenMe · 10/01/2015 12:35

Poor girl in Colchester. That's really sad.

Those who would kill a young girl like this are as bad as those who killed in Paris. They are extremists too and deserve to be ostracised. And we could also have a problem with these sorts of people in the months to come. It all comes down to the same common denominator-hatred-so they are very similar to the terrorists they probably despise.

We have to be careful however not to let extremists of any kind stifle sensible debate if debate is indeed required.

mrsruffallo · 10/01/2015 12:37

Who is demanding that all muslims apologise? They didn't do it! I have not heard anyone demanding that all muslims apologise. I think people look for confirmation and reassurance from the muslim community but apologies? Are people making this stuff up?

MumsyFoxy · 10/01/2015 12:38

The terrorists are demonstrating that anri-iskamic stance is not a "prejudice" but an informed stance based on facts, surely?

SlaggyIsland · 10/01/2015 12:40

mrsruffallo, thinking about it, I do understand why you'd feel especially nervous after these events. I know that Jewish people are targets for extremists as they were yesterday in Paris and as such I was maybe a bit too quickly dismissive.
I am just dismayed to see people's suspicion and intolerance burgeoning in the wake of this attack. It's not the way forward, it's counter-productive, it's to my mind giving in to extremism and it makes me sad.

mrsruffallo · 10/01/2015 12:40

Chicken- do you actually speak how you type? Just wondering.

I think the tragedy concerning the saudi girl has not been proved to be an anti muslim attack so please let's not use this to make a point and stop discussing it please.

ChickenMe · 10/01/2015 12:42

Hang on, it doesn't say the young girl was killed for her dress just that she might have been. Bloody Guardian-thought they were meant to be sensible?! So it could have been a mad man. Poor girl anyway and whether this was motivated by her attire or not I would not be surprised at a rise in religiously aggravated offences post Paris.

Allingoodfaith · 10/01/2015 12:43

cleanmachine who is demanding that?? I'm not and I've not seen anybody else do that either.

mrs thanks its just the hypocrisy of some of the posters, they are doing exactly what they claim others are doing

mrsruffallo · 10/01/2015 12:44

Slaggy- thank you for you measured and considered response.

ChickenMe · 10/01/2015 12:46

Yes fucked up, was mislead re that article sorry. It wasn't conclusive re the motivation so not really proper to link it.

Mrs R I spk lke ths

What do you mean how I type? (Genuinely interested)

mrsruffallo · 10/01/2015 12:47

'I would not be surprised at a rise in religiously aggravated offences post Paris' Wow, you have a low opinion of people. Or do you mean more attacks by Islamic fundamentalists?

mrsruffallo · 10/01/2015 12:53

Slaggy island- Of course we all have that fear but I think on the whole we are doing a good job and the vast majority of people are moving forward together in a positive way. I think the danger is labelling everyone who discusses cultural differences/ or who has concerns about religion 'intolerant'. It will get us no where as demonstrated by the grooming cases or by the failure to listen to moderate muslims who asked police for help when their mosques were taken over by hate preachers.

ChickenMe · 10/01/2015 12:55

Mrs R

I would not be surprised at an increase in the commission of religiously aggravated offences against those the perpetrators perceive to be Muslim, no. I think that's realistic. Offences could mean anything classed as a hate crime, public order, criminal damage etc. I think historically this has happened?
