has anyone been charged £79 for amazon prime without knowing that they have brought it?

Just found out that I bought it in March and then have been charged for it again in December. I haven,t watched a single movie and have only brought about 3 things off amazon this year. What is going on.? Has this happened to anyone else?

I think it may automatically renew itself, but its a bit weird if they charged you in March and then in December....

I would contact Amazon directly about it as they usually quite good with these things and you might get a refund if you don't want the membership again

This happened to my sister. She is a scatter brain, she only realised when they sent her letter asking her why she wasnt using it as telling her about all the latest releases.

Oh sorry, just read you didn't know you had bought it. If you took their free trail at any point then they take the money automatically unless you cancel. It is really easy to sign up for the free trial as it is automatically selected in shipping options so you may have done it without realising

The above about contacting amazon still stands, they may refund you

My brother works for a bank and says he gets complaints about this. Sounds like a free trial has continued on to the subscription. I've had them but you have to be careful to opt out of the subscription before it renews itself!

If you opted to have free next day delivery at any point it would have become chargeable 28 days later unless you cancelled.

I accidentally clicked on the free trail option over Christmas. I don't even live in the UK so it's no good to me. I only realised when I got an email about it so I cancelled it.

I just signed up for the free trial today, all I had to do was click a button. It would be quite easy to accidentally sign up without realising.
Is there anyone else in your house who could have signed up? If your passwords are "remembered" on computer etc then someone else could have done possibly not knowing they were signed in as you.

If you haven't used it since December you should be able to cancel it and get a refund for this year. You probably won't for last year if you had any prime deliveries though

DD had a random £80 from Amazon -not prime or anything! Fortunately she spotted it. They had no explanation, just said sorry & refunded. Weird.

Have you contacted Amazon? They should be able to tell that you haven't used it so it would be fairly obvious you didn't know you'd signed up. Worth a try, they might refund it.

Yes it happened to me. I didn't realise the renewal was automatic. To be honest, I vaguely remember reading that it wasn't so I'm not sure what happened there. I emailed them after about 6 months and explained and said I honestly couldn't afford it and would they refund. They replied straight away saying they would. I haven't checked my statement yet but did get an email from amazon saying it had been cancelled.

Amazon have a good customer service so email them and see how it goes.

Just tried phoning them but he said refunds aren't open til tomorrow. I got new kindle fire for Christmas which has a link to amazon for apps etc. I think its got to do with that.

This happened to me. No free trial or anything but noticed the £79 come out of my account. I called Amazon and said I hadn't signed up for any free trial or anything of that sort to which the chap said "we thought you might like it so signed you up" before extolling its virtues Shock I demanded he cancel it immediately, which he did and the refund was in my account two days later. So, YANBU - they are doing this.

I did this just before Christmas. Well actually ds1 did it, he watched a film on his Xbox, thought he was just paying for the one film but they took £79 out of my account for membership.

I phoned them as soon as I noticed and fair play they refunded the full amount straight away, even the cost of the film.

Amazon are very good at refunding it. I had it once without realising and they refunded me minus some as I'd used it though again hadn't realised which was fair enough. They're very good and have great customer service IMHO

I accidentally signed up for it before Xmas. I must check that they have respected my cancellation. I tried to watch a film online through it but none of them would load!

You can do it with one click - the button was kind of disguised as a normal buy button for my order and once I'd clicked it, it was damn hard to cancel. (I had to google the steps online). They better have cancelled it for me!!

Op, I signed up for it without realising earlier this year. I noticed the dd from my bank account and accused everyone else in my family (we have only one account) of being responsible. Dh looked into it for me and showed me the transaction where I signed up for it! Am really cross with self as not a big fan of Amazon and only use it as a last resort.

They definitely don't make it easy for you to cancel or change your mind ... no reminders or anything like that! They trade on people's forgetfulness.

I signed up for the free trial this December and it was clear that it was only free for a month and then you would become liable for the £79 yearly fee.

You have to confirm you have read the terms and you have to agree to them. Confused I'm sorry but I think YABU not to have noticed.

BTW if you haven't actually used any of the Amazon prime services then they may refund you. Did you use Amazon prime for the three purchases you made?

If you take up the free trial you can instantly cancel your agreement to the yearly service but you still get to use the rest of your months free trial.

I'm not a fan of some of Amazons buisness activities though - I repeatedly reported some very obviously fake reviews for electronic goods and despite agreeing they were fake in phone calls nothing was ever done when the complaint was escalated (there were over a 100 glowing 5* reviews all for one manufacturers products and all by one very enthusiastic reviewer)

I signed up for the free trial last year but cancelled it and they still charged me. I called them and even though there was no record of me having cancelled it they refunded me rught away.
