Just found out that I bought it in March and then have been charged for it again in December. I haven,t watched a single movie and have only brought about 3 things off amazon this year. What is going on.? Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes happened to me. Noticed on my bank statement and cancelled it. Neither me or my (now) ex have any recollection of how it could have happened but I won't order from them again.

If your DH is signed up then you should be able to "share" the free delivery aspect (but might need to sign in as him in order to use the instant video).

UngratefulMoo · 08/01/2015 22:09

Yes, me - I complained and they refunded me.

The moral of the story is this:

When you press buttons on the internet, especially when you are on a site that has your credit card details, PAY ATTENTION.

Jimjams2014 · 08/01/2015 22:11

Yes OMG YES!!! Complained and threatened legal proceedings and got a 50% refund.... Going to take them to small claims court if they don't replay 100%. Bastards!!!

jellymaker · 08/01/2015 22:11

no worries Arfur. I am so so busy that it is no wonder that these things trip me up. I do religiously check our bank statements however so hence me noticing the charge on our joint account. Their business model is sneaky in my opinion

This thread has sort of reassured me, as I really don't remember signing up this time.

I had a free trial once before, and dutifully cancelled after a month.

I don't know how I got it so wrong this time Sad.

WD41 · 08/01/2015 22:29

I'm currently in the free months trial for prime. I thought it was quite clear that it was a trial and that I would be charged afterwards if don't cancel tbh. Got a confirmation email etc. Not sure how people are missing it!

Rinoachicken · 08/01/2015 22:33

I was a prime member for years when it was £40. Mine renews in jan and auto renewed the other year but at the £79 price - they didn't even announce prime tv etc until the February and it wasn't live til then, but they'd taken the increased fee a month in advance anyway!!

Ladymoods · 08/01/2015 22:36

Yes, exactly the same thing happened to me and I've no idea how. Luckily I was able to cancel it and they refunded me the full amount. It really shouldn't be that easy to make that mistake.

ICantDecideOnAUsername · 08/01/2015 22:39

There's an easy way to check if you have it, when you are logged into Amazon look at the Amazon logo in the top left-hand corner. If you have Prime it will say 'Prime' underneath; if not it will say 'Try Prime'. Easy. Keep an eye on it.

Ladymoods · 08/01/2015 22:39

It's all very well saying 'pay attention' trills but at no point did a notice saying 'would you like to subscribe to Amazon prime?' obviously appear as I would have undoubtedly said no. The fact that so many people have had this problem just proves how easy it is to make that error.

Loopylala7 · 08/01/2015 22:45

This happened to me. They charged me, then wrote to me to say 'hey we've noticed you haven't been using our services', well err, because I had no idea I had signed up to it?! Anyway, long story short, it appears that a lot of people online have had a similar experience, ALTHOUGH got some good online advice, just ask for it back. I got my money back a couple of days after complaining. It was a bit hard to find where to complain on the website, but when I did a live chat, got the situation sorted in a few minutes. Hope that helps.

FrancesNiadova · 08/01/2015 22:46

Yes, I realised & cancelled it & got a,£16 refund because I hadn't used it. WHOOPEE Hmm

Clearly different people have different ideas of what obviously means.

Plenty of people have said they did notice, and some have even said that it was "hard to miss".

Do you think they were shown different webpages, with different words and pictures on?

Loopylala7 · 08/01/2015 22:49

Do an online chat, I hammered home that I was unaware I was signed up. They didn't argue and refunded the full amount

Oh my God, OP. I could actually hug you! I'd forgotten all about needing to cancel my membership and would have been charged £79.00 that I can ill afford on the 10th January.

Loopylala7 · 08/01/2015 22:56

I think the confusion is that when you come to pay for an item, then select a delivery, there are two free delivery options. If you accidentally press the wrong free delivery option, i.e. Prime (and this is not the big advert page stating what you're signing up to) you accidentally sign up without realising. I think thats a bit naughty personally.

Ladymoods · 08/01/2015 22:56

I have no interest in Amazon prime whatsoever so if a notice had appeared asking me if I wanted to sign up then I would have said no. So no, it wasn't obvious, I'm not a fucking moron.

Loopylala7 · 08/01/2015 22:57

This is what I mean - note the tiny word in blue 'details' thats the bit I think people miss.

apostropheuse · 08/01/2015 22:57

I signed up for the free trial a while back and it was obvious to me that I would be charged if I didn't cancel within a month.

In fact, I ordered it one day and cancelled it on my account online the following day. Doing it this way you don't forget to cancel it and they still honour the month's free trial. I had three or four free deliveries in that period.

I think it was as simple as unticking a box on my account to stop the automatic renewal.

Loopylala7 · 08/01/2015 22:59

Sorry, I correct myself, there are 3 free delivery options, or 2 if you count the £79!

BikketBikketBikket · 08/01/2015 23:03

Thank you very, very much OP - signed up in December for delivery of some late presents...and totally forgot to cancel Shock
I would have been charged tomorrow without your reminder FlowersFlowersFlowers
